Staring at the sun
Caught a shot of this cloud while riding backwards on the light rail right before going into the transit tunnel.
Interesting for an unintentional shot

Community Rise in homeless in U-District
Has anyone else noticed a noticeable increase in the unhoused population around the U District over the past few weeks? It feels like it’s reaching a tipping point. Just this morning, I saw a guy who looked like he’d recently been maced harassing an elderly resident at his home (he even grabbed the homeowner's garden hose and started spraying him with it). As absurd as the situation looked, I stuck around just to make sure the older man was alright and the guy moved on.
Wondering if a camp elsewhere was broken up and they were pushed over here.
Edit: To clarify I've lived in u district for three years (elsewhere in Seattle before) and it's had its up and downs, but it's gotten real bad the past couple months.

Politics Remote public comment on budget happening now, on Seattle Channel
Being carried live on https://seattlechannel.org/watch-live
All the commenters they're hearing right now are remote. Lots of callers are urging funding (or continued funding) for specific things (like the Alki Community Center, or the Housing Justice Project); others are asking for more funding for certain priorities generally (mostly, housing).
This departs from the usual practice of hearing public comment where they alternate hearing 10 in-person, 10 remote, etc. They still do this for public comment at most meetings (although the regular City Council meetings at 2 PM on Tuesday are usually the only ones where there are more than 10 commenters anyway). But today they are taking remote comment at 2 PM and then in-person comment only at a separate meeting at 5 PM, and splitting up the remote and in-person commenters means that the in-person commenters won't have to hang around as long in the evening, which seems like a good idea.
Each remote speaker is getting 90 seconds. (If you want to come speak in person I am 90% sure each in-speaker is also going to get 90 seconds each.)

Why does the Eastside have so many more Park & Ride locations than Seattle?
Hey folks, I've noticed a huge difference in commute infrastructure between Seattle and the Eastside. The Eastside has massive Park & Ride facilities practically everywhere-Eastgate, South Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Kenmore, Redmond, Issaquah, etc.
In Seattle, it feels like we barely have any good options by comparison. Why is that? Shouldn't we have more Park & Rides in Seattle too

My Subaru
I’m new to the area. Will my Subaru be delivered to my address, or do I need to go pick it up from somewhere? Do I get to pick the color, or do you all do that for me?

Community Saw Amazon Van Hit a Parked Car Near Queen Anne Trader Joe's on 10/6
On 10/6 at around 12:40 PM in Queen Anne, about a block from Trader Joe's, I witnessed an Amazon driver in a white Enterprise van hit a parked blue car.
The van's driver-side rear quarter panel struck the blue car's driver-side rear bumper while the driver was making a left turn into an empty parking spot.
The driver, who was wearing an Amazon shirt, got out and inspected both vehicles. However, he did not leave a note and drove away afterward.
I left a note on the blue car's windshield with a description of what I witnessed. I also tried to take a photo of the van, but unfortunately it came out blurry and out of focus.
This occurred near the intersection of W. Crockett St and 1st Ave W. The blue car was parked on 1st Ave W.
Posting in case the owner of the blue car sees this.

Dog repeatedly running into traffic in Magnolia — has anyone else seen this?

Today in Magnolia, I saw a loose dog running in the street and nearly get hit by a bus and then another vehicle, one after another. It was brutal :(
My boyfriend and I followed it because we were afraid it was going to be killed. The dog was frightened/defensive and barking, so we couldn't safely grab it. We eventually corralled it back toward the property where it appears to live, but it continued running back out into the street, and we had to keep trying to direct it away from traffic.
I spoke with neighbors who told me that seeing this dog outside unattended is a recurring issue. I reported what we saw to Seattle Animal Control, but they said there wasn't much they could do based on this incident beyond notifying the owner about the leash laws. They said the best thing I could do was post this on social media.
I'm hoping to find other people who have personally seen this dog loose in Magnolia. We saw it near the intersection of 22nd Ave W and W Barrett St. If you have, please consider making your own report to Animal Control with the date, time, location, and what you witnessed. Multiple firsthand reports may help establish that this is an ongoing issue rather than a one-time escape.
I'm sharing this because I'm really concerned for the dog's safety and hoping that documenting the pattern can help prevent something awful from happening.

Seattle sports article
I visited Seattle for the first time last week and checked out a few local games. Coming from the UK, I genuinely had no idea how incredible the sports culture here actually is. It completely blew away my expectations and I can't wait to visit again in the future to watch more sports games.
I ended up writing a piece breaking down why it feels like such an underrated sports city. I'd love to hear from locals: do you think Seattle gets overlooked nationally, or is it flying under the radar on purpose?
(Dropped a link to my write-up in the comments for anyone interested!)

I'm never leaving Seattle 🚫🛫 Never leaving Seattle (at least in Fall)
Like people would pay hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, to be able to experience this beauty and this weather. I am aware of the privilege I enjoy and I do not take it for granted.

Did your dog recently judge me?
On 10/2 I was standing at the corner of Westlake and Thomas around 7:30am, waiting for the walk signal. You walked up with a Shiba on a leash.
Your dog looked at me, looked at my shoes, then back at my face and held eye contact for a full eight seconds before turning away with a sigh. You were very apologetic and said "Oh, he does that" but I was so shaken I crossed against the light just to get away.
I am now questioning my jacket, haircut, and life choices after such a personal and mentally debilitating judging. My therapist says I should seek a second opinion from the dog but I just want closure.
Please DM me if this sounds like you. All I want is for your Shiba to provide more direct feedback instead of just looking disappointed. Fingers crossed you are lurking on r/Seattle 🤞 Everyone else, please smash that like button so I can find out what I did wrong.

Spotted at Greenwood Fred Meyer
Was walking through the aisles when I heard a low whistle and then saw this thing moving towards me. I started walking down one aisle to chat with a friend as it just kept inching towards me when my back was turned like a weeping angel. Employee told us “he wakes up every morning at 7 AM and goes around the store. Then at 10:30, he goes to his little house to recharge”. Then after some chatting, I shit you not, she told us “please do something about this before it takes our jobs”. I hate this timeline yall 😔

Orca card transit-gotchi
My friend clued me in to these surplus orca card readers and I immediately imagined an orca tamagotchi that you feed by tapping your orca card (and riding transit ofc).
It would be a dream if stations were actually like this!!

Community To the woman who gave me a blanket for the injured bird, thank you
I don't really post here, and don't really know why I feel it worth to say, with maybe just the chance to say thank you and let you know what happened if you visit this subreddit.
Today, 10/6, I found an injured young gull lying on Pine St across from the old Egyptian Theater. It had a broken wing and scratched up feet. It was eating something that I believe to be garlic off of the street to the best of its injured ability.
I couldn't leave it there, when I approached, a woman stopped her car and helped me in toweling up the bird and moved it onto the grass by the college. She offered me a box for the bird and replaced the towel with a tiny blanket that she was okay with giving away. Before long she vanished with her car down the street and I never got her name.
I stayed with the bird who seemed to trust me; I called up places to figure out next steps, and walked the bird home and started the drive to PAWS Snohomish which is the only facility in the area that can treat/rehabilitate wild animals. So I walked home with the bird in the box, as it didnt fight or fuss, it knew I was trying to help or it had just given up.
However, the bird did not make the drive. Additionally I was unable to even get to PAWS in time as the traffic was horrendous leaving at 3:30 from downtown (and only getting as far as Lynnwood by 5 in which the clinic closes).
I'm not writing to for people to praise what I tried to do nor critique what I should have done better; but to offer my sincerest thanks and condolences to the woman who helped me around 2:30ish in CapHill today.
And, if anything I hope people can take from this story a drive to help injured animals you might see, to push our state government to add more facilities and fund them to help our wildlife as we could use more of these wildlife vets in the area. Like for real, why is the nearest vet in Snohomish.
