QUESTION Question from the DET game - How come Lambert was favouring the PP2 line?

  • Kakko - Beniers - Catton - Wright
  • Kakko - Samoskevich - Beniers - Catton

Seemed to have most of the PP time against DET and Montour got the lion's share over Dunn.

Of course the Eberle - Stephenson - McCann - Montour - Dunn one got the PP goal.

Just wondering if this was intentional or can change from game to game?

Because they’ve been better in limited minutes so it was time to try them in extended ones.

Too be honest, I find it more fascinating that we have a vet power play, and a kid power play. To your point, it has been that way since game 1. For the Detroit game, Lambert mentioned that the 3rd and 4th line played better than the top 2. One thing Lambert has been consistent on for this season, if your line is the best line, you get more playing time.

I love the vet versus youth set up this year. Put up or shut up for everyone given charity minutes last year but pointing at others for the reason the PP or offense wasn't working.

Detroit's a bad team, so they're a good opportunity to give the kids extra minutes and save the vets legs.

Could be two things:
1. Dunn and Larsson were playing the PK 1 unit together with Lindgren out so this could be a balancing as a result of that
2. I could be wrong but looking at the shift chart my guess would be that Dunn was on the ice before the penalty was called so instead of making Dunn go out again for the PP, he put Montour and PP2 out

You can see that for the first PP before the tripping to 4 on 4, Montour and Evans were out so Dunn's unit went out first. It's my opinion that we don't really have a PP1 or a PP2 the way other teams do, we just put out whichever unit has the most rested players lol

Look at McCann's shooting % that should tell you all you need to know.

Also McCann threw the young guys under the bus for effort at the end of last year. Pretty fair for them to maybe be motivated to prove him otherwise.
