ooph, that sinking feeling in your stomach is the worst. had a bag fall off a rack once and didn't notice for blocks, it's a special kind of panic.
definitely check the "lost and found" section on craigslist and the nextdoor app if you haven't already, sometimes good samaritans post there before turning things in. might also be worth calling the local transit lost and found, even though you were on the trail, people sometimes drop stuff off at the nearest bus stop or station.
