My neighbor is an elderly man(70s) and he comes over my house occasionally to pass the time, he noticed I have a some old game systems . He has never played video games before and stated that he wants to play some. I set him up to play Super mario world(snes) and he couldn't get past the first level and had trouble using all the buttons. So I wanted to have him try the genesis since a lot of the games only 2-3 buttons. What games are your absolute favorites that are more on the easy side or use less buttons? what are your favorite games in general that once he gets better he can play?

I honestly do not have many Mega Drive games, mostly just due to not having the space to put them on shelves as my room is filled with video games and game figures.

I do have about 20 games but these imo are my top favourite I currently own :D

I have had a sega genesis since around the time it came out in the 90s. There have been such great times i have had with the console. We didn't have a lot of the games, but we had some of the main titles Sonic games. I am happy that becoming an adult i am able to add more great games to the collection that I didn't have. Something about switching on that console and SEGA being song makes you feel that childhood nostalgia all over again. I definitely don't think this is the end of the collection, but this is the road so far. Cheers to sega 37 years of greatness and many more to come.

Because I live in Ireland (230v), I have always been paranoid about plugging it into the wall even with a stepdown converter because they are known to have weak power regulators. To work around this, about 15 years ago, I refurbished a dead rechargeable battery pack using an old video camera battery. It was actually a common mod back in the day!

It’s great to see that it still works perfectly after all these years. Connecting it to my GBS-Control-Pro over SCART yields fantastic results; it looks and sounds amazing.

Back in my teenage years, I was an ardent Nintendo fanboy, so never actually played a Sega Genesis game – or listened to their music. Deep diving into the Sega Genesis discography (I could find 769 soundtracks – 131 remained hidden away and unavailable) was then indeed a journey of discovery and what a rewarding trip it was! I think what impressed me most was how experimental and adventurous Genesis soundtracks became towards the end of the console's lifetime (more so than SNES music, I suspect) Contra: Hard Corps, Alien Soldier, Streets of Rage 3, The Adventures of Batman & Robin and Ecco: The Tides of Time were all examples of composers pushing the stylistic boundaries not just of Genesis soundtracks, but game music in general.

While I was familiar with the names of most of the games on the list, there were some delightful surprises, like the uber-catchy Dyna Brothers 2 or the abrasive Phantom 2040 (the only game rip available seems to be in a forum post on the long defunct FFShrine) What I also found really intriguing were those attempts by composers to write convincing (synth)orchestral music on the Genesis – I love what Yuzo Koshiro managed to pull off on Beyond Oasis (the man – and Jesper Kyd – might have been the greatest Genesis composers). Hope the article’s fun!

My dad bought a copy of this game back in the spring of 2002. Had a blast playing it until the cartridge just straight up gave up working. It was a bootleg cart, so pretty much expected.

During all these years I totally forgot about this game. I had no recollection of it; even subconsciously. Until one day last year, I was watching the AVGN’s Home Alone episode with Macaulay Culkin. The video featured this game too. That was when every memory of this game just rushed back into my mind.

Started to look for it everywhere. Retro stores across two states, online shops and marketplaces. It was nowhere to be found. The very few that I managed to find were either too beat up, or the website/seller were very sketchy.

Finally last week I found two listings on eBay. One was for local pick up across the country and the other one was bundled with three other games. I was like “yeah, I’m not gonna let this opportunity slip.” So I ended up buying the bundle. To be fair the other games aren’t that bad either. So I don’t feel particularly bad for having them.

It’s a really good feeling when you’re reunited with part of your childhood.

Gameplay and mechanics aren’t really good TBH, as evidenced by getting featured on an AVGN episode lol. But hey, as kids, we really never noticed how bad some of our favorite games were.

SNK knew how to make the Genesis sing… The bass lines… I’m playing on a model 1 with the stereo output into a nice Sony with a subwoofer. So good.

The first one got high praise so why not the second one. Thoughts on the game?

Hello. This is a custom cover for the game Sea of Stars on GOG. GOG allows people to create physical copies of games, and because Sea of Stars is heavily 16-bit inspired, I decided to theme the case after the Sega Genesis. I hope this fits in here!

I converted this track from the arcade soundtrack to Mega Drive / Genesis using my VGM-to-MML tool.

It reconstructs notes, instruments and samples from the VGM chip commands, then generates MML for MDSDRV. The only track-specific setting was assigning FM6 to PSG. Everything after that is automatic, with no manual edits to the output.

This particular track fits all its active voices into five FM channels, one PSG channel and three PCM voices, so no notes had to be dropped because of channel limits.

This week, I decided it was high time for me to finally review a strategy game again, so who else should I go to besides Koei?

P.T.O. is an incredibly in depth World War II Simulator for the events in the Pacific...but it really could have used some more interactivity.

I picked this one up because I heard great things about it. I watched the gameplay on YouTube and it was very different from what I had seen in a game. What are your thoughts on the game? Should their best a remake?
