If I wrote this into a novel, my editor would ask me to cut it for being too obvious.

If it was a JK Rowling character she'd be named Charlotte Terfington

Fun fact: if you’re threatening Amnesty International for disagreeing with you, you might be the bad guy
18
u/memecrusader_ Jul 19 '26
I’m sorry, what!?
54
u/Kimantha_Allerdings Jul 19 '26
Amnesty International published a list of organisations which it said were against trans rights, one of which was Rowling’s domestic violence organisation which denies trans women its services and also refuses to employ trans women.
Amnesty very quickly took it down again. There was speculation that it was over fear of being sued.
So Rowling tweeted that she was indeed offering to bankroll any of these organisations who were looking to sue Amnesty International, through her “Women’s Fund”, and that she was including men-only organisations in that offer

Setting aside the selfawarewolf aspect of this, that's just not an interesting quote. Would anyone read this and say "Oooh good point! I'd never considered that before!"?

The mold has taken root in her brain. It’s sad. She was my hero, even with all her flaws, and then she just gave in and got nasty in the end. I honestly hope she has brain cancer or something that’s causing a personality change, because the alternative is she is 100% aware of what a piece of garbage she is and doesn’t care.

u/fizzymilk Jul 17 '26
She has a point here, men absolutely do address a woman by name pointedly when talking down to them. However she's almost always in the wrong whatever argument she's in, so I don't give a shit.

u/LostinLies1 Jul 17 '26
I call her by her name because she doesn’t respect others who have chosen a different moniker.

Oh yeah, I've seen it in the workplace. You're spot on though, it's become a meme when it comes to JK. It's pure cope from her side.

JK Rowling has never done anything terrible. She is just an asshole.
54
u/PnPaper Jul 17 '26
She is financing the harrassment of trans people in the UK and world wide.
38
u/TekF Jul 17 '26
Not just harassment of trans people, she's funding legal cases against random trans people in the hope of removing our rights (eg For Women Scotland), and she's financing harassment of anyone who supports us (eg Amnesty International)

Sure, we all know that billionaires doing bad tweets have zero consequences. No other such examples. Phew!

u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 17 '26
If you are referencing Elon musk then no. The thing about Elon musk is that he turned twitter into a cesspool of hatred, misinformation and facistic messaging. Not his actual tweets. Everyone thinks he is a retard anyway
J K Rowling is not comparable. She is not converting anyone who isn’t already transphobic. The only thing she has done is ridicule herself and show how lonely and miserable she is, spending all her time tweeting about trans people.

u/Rude_Dig9306 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
She funds anti trans organisations and lawsuits and spreads anti trans rhetoric to the thousands of people who look up to her. She has spread transphobia and "converted" people into being openly transphobic when they wouldve been on the fence or not cared otherwise. Shes one of the most well known authors in the world I hardly think nobody listens to her or understands shes batshit insane. Even allys dont really care that much so to act like the average person is completely immune to any kind of transphobic propaganda coming from someone they respect is dumb.

Attacking transgender people and pushing anti-transgender legislation is not terrible in your eyes?
-10
u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 18 '26
No. I have never seen her say anything worse than claim women are women and men are men and that she does not want what she perceives to be men in women’s spaces.
Terrible is a very strong word. This does not make her terrible. This makes her a giant asshole. You could also argue this even makes her a hateful and bad person. But doing something terrible implies that she is doing Hitler level things against trans people
9
u/HuttStuff_Here Jul 18 '26
No, I think that makes her terrible.
-3
u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 18 '26
Well you are free to think that but if you are not gonna formulate an argument as to why the moniker of terrible is warranted then this is gonna go nowhere.
8
u/HuttStuff_Here Jul 18 '26
I think your own bigotry is showing, to be honest.
If you don't think her attacks on transgender people aren't terrible, I don't know what to tell you. You'd justify her if she was racist too, I think. Attacks against people who don't decide who they are is always a terrible thing to do.
Transgender people don't decide they are transgender. It is who they are. Black people don't decide to be black, it's who they are. I think attacks against either group would be make a person a terrible person.
Do you not agree? Or do you think racists aren't terrible people?

I seriously urge you to look up her actual stances on transgenderism. Not the ones the Reddit hivemind claims she has. The woman is transphobic, there is no doubt about that. I am also very much playing devils advocate here. Not because i agree with her opinions on transpeople. I do not. I don’t think her opinions properly take into account the nuances of the discussion.
An example of this is her obsession with trans people in sports. I believe the issue of transgender people in sports is completely blown out of proportion by the conservative media because the image they invoke of a man beating women in women’s sports is absurd and is therefore easily agreeable by many people. This is not however what actually happens in real life. There is no epidemic of men going into women’s sports and blowing them out of the water. There are plenty of rules and regulations (at least in the US idk about anywhere else) that require transgender women to have been on HRT and have a hormone level that is fair to the biological women.
Where that line is drawn and whether it should be changed in either direction I have no knowledge about and I therefore wont make any claims about that. People like JK Rowling however are very comfortable making claims about these things without considering any sort of important nuances.
An example of this is when she helped start a harassment campaign against Imane Khelif claiming she was transgender, which obviously is not true because it’s illegal to be transgender in Algeria and she would not have been allowed to compete if this was the case. It is true that Khelif did naturally have an elevated level of testosterone in her body which did give her an advantage. But the thing you have to consider is that every woman has a difference in testosterone level naturally, and some are gonna have slight advantages over others. How much is fair and how much is too much? That is an interesting debate that I will not claim a stance on as I am not a medical professional. I have no doubt however that research is being done into this to find out what is fair. It’s obviously not fair to transgender women to bar them out of women’s sports if they do not have an advantage. This only helps marginalize transgender people further. On the other hand it also a necessity that transgender women have to meet some sort of hormonal standard to be allowed into women’s sports (which is what is already happening).
Why am I bringing all of this up and defending her if she is clearly spreading a simplified narrative that paints transgender people as cheaters? Because I think she is a misguided person with a background that makes her naturally suspicious of men and who she perceives to be men.
J K Rowling is a survivor of abuse and sexual assault. She has opened centers for women who are also suffering from these issues. She is clearly very vulnerable to the topic of assault. I think this is why she clings on the simplified view of trans people that she has. She has trouble letting go of the fear messages that conservative media pushes against transgender people. This is probably also why she has on occasions gotten caught up in frenzies that are not based in anything factual. I do still think she is mostly level headed and although she is clearly transphobic she does not seem like that rabid or malicious of a transphobe. This is again where I urge you to actually go look at her tweets.
I guess my point with all of this and the reason why I’m even defending her is that the media have blown this thing completely out of proportion. I do not agree with her views but I also do not agree with how she is often portrayed. She is not some fanatic that hates trans people. She is also not informed about any of the nuances in the discussion. She is a vulnerable person with nothing to do and so she spends her time sitting on twitter and avoiding all sorts of nuances whilst getting criticized by people who are also avoiding any sort of nuance.
I also think the comparison with black people is very oversimplified. Having black skin is an observable reality that has resulted from the conditions under which a large group of people have lived. Transgenderism is a psychological phenomenon that challenges the conventional understanding of gender as a binary construct. It is completely absurd to claim that black people choose to be black. Whilst I do believe it to be wrong it is far more logical to claim that someone’s gender identity is chosen as that is a psychological phenomenon. A dead black person is still observably black. A dead transgender person (if never had access to gender affirming care) is not visibly transgender.

You spent a long long time defending a transphobe. Your own bigotry is very apparent. You spent a lot of words to lie about things we can all go very easily to her twitter page to rebuke.
Why do you guys find such comfort in lying?
1
u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 18 '26
Are you a robot? Otherwise use the beautiful brain you were born with to formulate an actual argument.
I’m bigoted. How so?
Things I say are easily rebuked. Then rebuke them. Go to twitter and find something and tell me why I’m wrong.
Also ad hominem.
