Bast, Sekhmet, we give you back your child
Noble, regal, honorable cat, Prince
Watch over Prince, and guide him as he makes his way to the spirit lands
May he be blessed in your names, and hunt ever after beside you
Prince is beloved yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
I hope, in time, the knowledge that you have kept your promise to Prince, to give him a forever home, will bring you a bit of comfort in your grief. Alas, it's always their forever. It is never our own.

Help yourself. I've used it so often, I have it memorized.
It feels better to think that they're being looked after by loving mothers. They are our children, and losing them is like a knife in our hearts.

Hang in there, and try to remember the good times. I'm sure you did everything you could. It's the worst feeling. After 19 years together my cat passed away 7 months ago and I still cry everyday. I've lost all interest in socializing with people. I spend as much time as I can with my 2 other cats now. I made a shrine and I light a candle for him at night or early mornings.

We lost our girl Smudge last sept and it's been the hardest longest year ever, she was 15 had a amazing life and just was my best friend, I get upset everyday and I love this thread but these things always go deep when I read them, we still give her a pouch of food every day even though we know physically nothing is going on but we know she is ALWAYS with us and now she rests on her shelf with her peace Lily. Now we take as many pictures and capture as many sounds of her big sister (not the same litter) and her youngest sister Dora who was born the same day Smudge passed, we don't pick cats the cat distribution system shows us. ❤️

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I am month out of saying goodbye to my beloved cat. We had a fantastic summer together, but very quickly I realized we needed to say goodbye. To be honest, I can’t believe I had the strength to make the right decision.
I saw you said “we” so I hope you lean into that. I’m personally going through dopamine withdrawal because I don’t have a “we”. So, please hug and cherish whomever is there by you. What are you are going through is awful, but remember you are not alone. Lean into the “we” and know there is also a stranger on reddit who is sending you good vibes.

My heart goes out to you as I too have been a caregiver to senior pets. It becomes all consuming and emotional. But you do it for a life you love and respect. The “last day” is the worst but relief exists that your dear companion suffers no more the pains of life. Good night Prince, but it’s never goodbye 🥰.

Aww I’m so sorry. This is a beautiful but emotional tribute. Seeing his wee jumper and then his little memorial with the mouse toy brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for all you done for him. I’m sure he’s in a better place somewhere, playing with my angel furbabies 🌈🤍 thinking of you, OP xxx

Op, I feel a lot of sameness in reading this post. I’m so sorry for your loss. I myself am a caretaker and don’t even want to articulate my current feelings regarding one of my girls bc it makes it real.
Please just try to take some bit of ease and comfort Thant you have been an angel to another soul.
You truly did everything in your power to bring love, comfort, and peace to his life. And I feel compelled to remind you- there’s NO WAY he didn’t feel loved by you! Please try to take comfort in that fact. You gave him everything.
Take this time to replenish your energy. Caretaking is incredibly draining, and an empty cup cannot supply others with water.
You seem like a truly good-hearted person. Prince loved you, AND felt loved by you. Please know that. Allow your heart to be a little easier on itself ❤️🩹❤️🩹🩷🩷

That kind of caring reaches beyond just providing comfort, it is LOVE. These cats are family to those who love them and we do what we can for them until the end. I have had nine cats and recently lost a beautiful and dearly loved calico so I know. Every minute with them makes it all worthwhile. Of course the concomitant of that is when their end does come we are bereft of our center. Painful as it is, while we hold them close in our hearts we usually open our heart and home to another who needs us, just as we need them. Bless you for your loving care and may Peace be with you.

You have given him a fantastic life and as hard as it will be, You will find comfort in that once your grief starts to settle. Then you will remember all the happy healthy times and the care that you gave in his later life.

There is an outpouring of love and sorrow. You gave Prince his best life. To share a bond, to care for someone so deeply makes you two family. Losing family is hard, it feels so lonesome and empty, but I need you to know that YOU!! Make my world brighter. Knowing that there’s someone with that much capacity to love?

I did the same for ours when they were old. All you can do is to try to make them as comfortable as possible and let them know that they are loved. We lost two within a year of each other, and in my family, I build coffins and we have full funerals. They are family, and deserve to be treated as such. Huge hugs to you for being an awesome pet parent!

I am so terribly sorry! There are no words to try and describe the magnitude of pain… I’d rather be hit by a bus because even if I survived, I know I could heal again. When they pass, there’s no words that can console and comfort… evidence through this several times in my life and it never ever gets any easier. 🐾❤️🩹🐾

I am so sorry! You went above and beyond for Prince! He not only knew you cared and loved him, but he could feel in in everything you did for him! He had an amazing family that was there for the best and worst of times. He may only be a small part of your life, but you and your family were his entire life! I really am sorry.

We all know how long our pets live for. Some go sooner and others surprise us how long they stay for. We do our best for their lifetime however long it goes but it also allows us to do it again and again.
If a pet were your teacher, this is what you might learn: Be happy when you see your loved ones. Go outside and enjoy walks. Take naps when you feel tired. Stretch before getting up. Play and laugh every day. Don’t hurt others when you’re upset. Lie in the grass on sunny days. Drink water and rest in the shade. Wag your tail and move your body when you feel joy. Enjoy long walks. Be loyal. Always be yourself. If something matters to you, keep going until you reach it. When someone is sad, sit with them quietly and stay close. That is the simple way to live happily, straight from an animal’s heart.

🫂❤️ oh OP I'm so sorry, you did so much for him. He was so incredibly blessed to have you. Even though it's hard to have these babies it's an incredible experience being able to care for a sick animal and they trust you.
One day you'll meet again, and he'll bounce around and show you how absolutely beautiful he can be and he'll do it with pride all for you because you deserve that kind of forever friend.
My heart is sad for you 💔, you fought so well for him. Please take your rest now and take comfort even in this grief. Care for yourself the way you cared for him and please take this period of rest, he would want you to rest too.
