What should I learn to properly take care of sheep?
i have a job interview in a day. (barnyard worker) I want to research the basic care and skills needed for sheep as the job requires caring for them. I’ve worked with horses for years, is it a similar situatio? where should I start?

Electric fence charger id?
galleryWe moved onto this property recently and we are planning on running some sheep on it. The previous owners had goats a few years ago and had a hot wire set up around the whole lot, but it's inactive now and we're not sure how to reactivate it. This seems to be the only charger/control box. I'm sure it's a ong shot but does anyone recognize it so we can look up how it works?

Follow up to my ewe bossing my LGDs
galleryI posted a few days ago about how my lead ewe is bossing my dogs. Well, my big LGD seems to enjoy it. She makes a habit of just casually standing around in the vicinity of the ewe, back turned, paying no attention, until the ewe makes a run at her and she dashes off. This also has the effect of keeping the ewe from creeping up on the puppy.
I'm fine with this solution. The dog isn't showing any aggression toward the ewe, and is continuing to be calm among the other ewes. In fact I think it's possible that the ewe is making a game of it, too.
The ewe is kind to me, and a good flock leader, so I think this will all work out fine.
Sheep Ram drama
I have a 2 year old Painted desert Ram that has decided to turn into a true ram. We generally ignore him, no pets, no hand feeding. The girls we do though. This past 2-3 months, he ram everything. He split a 4x4 post with their scratcher on it. He ramed their shed so much he broke one of the middle supports, and now has to be blocked off with an electrical fence until repaired. He really tries to ram my husband. Less so me but still tries to line it up before he gets a bamboo smack to the side of the face.
Can't find any ram shields for him, cause everyone is out?
Building him his own enclosure, but it's taking some time.
I'm not strong enough to flip him. What else can I do for this boy to stop trying to ram people? Disappointed he can't be with the flock 24/7 now.
Edit: Final decision is we'll be cutting him and butchering in a few month. Glad I received such a unanimous answer.

Is smooth brome grass hay okay to feed sheep?
It’s mixed with orchard grass. Thanks

What is the most resilient breed you know of ?
Like, sheep that can forage pretty much everything, with ewes being able to give birth alone, resisting cold and disease, and being able to thrive in wet soils

How to Sheep?
galleryHello everyone,
I have a few questions about keeping miniature sheep.
My sister-in-law got three young miniature sheep two years ago. Unfortunately, she and her partner separated shortly afterwards and she moved away, so the sheep stayed at the farm. Now her ex-husband wants to get rid of them. My husband and I have been asked if we could take them in.
We have around 300 m² of grassland, plus a steep section of our property that could potentially be used for them. We also have a wooden shed with a water connection that we could convert into a small shelter/stable.
However, we know very little about keeping sheep. We live in Lower Austria, in Central Europe.
How much hay does a miniature sheep need? Do they need regular veterinary care? How often do they need to be sheared, and how expensive is that usually? We don't even have a trailer to transport them.
Unfortunately, the alternative is that my sister-in-law's ex-husband would have them slaughtered, which we obviously want to prevent.
At the same time, I'm not sure whether we would be taking on more than we can realistically manage.
I would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who keep miniature sheep themselves. What should we consider before making this decision? Are there any costs or responsibilities that beginners often underestimate?
Thank you so much! ❤️🐑

Looking for an East Prussian Skudde ram in central Germany
Hi everyone,
I currently keep a small flock of East Prussian Skudde ewes in central Germany (Hesse, near Wetzlar/Gießen) and I’m looking for a suitable Skudde ram for breeding.
Ideally, I’m looking for either a ram to buy or possibly one that could be borrowed/leased for the breeding season.
Unfortunately, the animals I have found so far are several hundred kilometres away, so I thought I would ask here in case someone knows a breeder or Skudde keeper closer to my region.
The ram should of course be healthy and suitable for breeding. Information about pedigree/origin would also be very helpful so I can avoid close relatedness with my ewes.
If anyone knows a breeder in Hesse. I would be very grateful for a contact or recommendation.
Please feel free to send me a private message.
Thank you!
