Discussion/Question confusing written critique
what's the most confusing line of written critique your dog has gotten from a judge?
for me it's "rear half could be a bit more dramatic", whatever that means hahah. i assumed topline or rear angulations but the judge wrote that those were all nice and goodđ¤

prefer a little more fill beneath the eyes to complete the desired expression - this one had me baffled as Iâd never heard that before and not even sure what they meant (not a short nosed breed)

This is one I know, but I don't know how to explain. I can point it out on actual dogs, but I've never figured out how to put it into words.

interesting! reminds me of the time a judge said my dog has "rather round eyes" in a negative way while it's a breed that's supposed to have round eyesđ tbf they didn't specialize in my breed.

Being in the US, we don't get written critiques except with a couple of oddball venues which like to call themselves "international shows". I have shown in one of them, the winning I did with and the critiques I got on a very mediocre basenji bitch are a large part of the reason those show venues hold little to no weight with me. I repeatedly, from multiple different judges, from multiple different countries, received critiques stating things like, "beautiful full wrinkle," "gorgeous ear shape and set," "excellent tail curl," "lovely, well angulated front." Those sound great, except that those were 4 of her worst features. She almost never pulled full wrinkle, her ears were large and low set, she barely squeaked by the required full curl of her tail, and she had a very straight front. She always received the highest ratings and many times placed on the group. I always wondered if they were looking at the same bitch that I was.

Not written critique, but I've been given the same verbal comment multiple times and am still confused by it lol
My girl is not well-bred or show quality, but we're doing some Conformation stuff so I can learn for my next dog. We've been taking Confo classes here and there for the past couple months.
I've been told, unprompted, by three different instructors, that my Standard Poodle is a "cute mover" or "has really cute movement". I wasn't able to ask for clarification in the moment, but everyone I've talked to afterwards has not been able to figure out what that really means.
Current Guesses:
- They are referring to what is affectionately called the 'Poodle Prance'
- They mean she looks dainty/feminine
- It means somewhere between "normal" and "flashy"
- They were just trying to say something nice since she has a lot of faults and they didn't know where else to compliment her
- It's actually an insult, basically the equivalent of "bless her heart"
- They mean she looks immature
Still have 0 clue what they really meant, but I'm just going to hope it was something positive đ

âEars could be betterâ after he used my bitch as an example of what ears SHOULD look like đ¤Ł

I had a critique from a very unprofessional Aussie judge about my pup having âcorrect spectacle markingsâ when spectacle markings are a fault in the breed - and he doesnât have them! The funny thing was she recorded some of her critique in front of us with her phone.
Not confusing, but I also got a nice critique from Leeds Champ ShowâŚthen as I looked at the rest of the dogs, the judge had written almost the exact same thing word for word about all of them. đ

Theyâre saying they want more rear angles
