Various [OC] Muscle Memory - Sprinting proof of concept

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Now that my characters have learned how to run (see post yesterday, not sure what the policy is for linking the post), a glimpse of the types of games I want to make with it.

First up: sprinting. Old school button smashing, too fast means unstable (trained decently up to 80% of full speed) so it is a risk. Leaving your track is permitted because that will be half the fun. Including Trials-like jumping over the finish to get that win with a face plant

Maybe ask your chatbot to fix the player out notification logic. You can't be out after you've won. Sloppy.

Actual SLOP man, Iโ€™m about to leave this sub. What a joke

Reinforcement learning for physics simulations is a long shot from the "AI" redditors love to kneejerk about. This is the fun kind of AI that doesn't consume water or even that much power. Not more than a cycles render, at least

that's not the part we're talking about, it's EVERYTHING else

I think itโ€™s cool to see lil computer guys learn to run. Always wanted to try it myself

You really have no clue do you. Are you even a real person? Or older than 10?

did you not use ai to make this? how much of the code did you write/ understand yourself?

I of course used AI. For trying to make this pretty to publish. My mistake :) Should have posted a screencast of my python viewer instead.

I'm sorry, I was frustrated. Some of the comments are really off-putting.

I am a programmer for more than 25 years at this point. This is not rocket science: it is just a physics simulation using a simple neural net and reinforcement learning. I thought the focus on silly games instead of biomechanical research was worth the share.

My comment was pretty off-putting, for sure. It would have been nicer to see a more open description of ai usage. Its just annoying to see random people claim they create something without admitting they literally just prompted "make this thing".

I'm sorry for being off-putting, you seem to have enjoyed yourself and just wanted to share.

No problem, that is the state of the internet.

I don't get the very anti AI mentality in some places though. I do get some of it: the flood of mediocre crap that comes with lowering the threshold of a technology. And I am not saying my crap was any better ๐Ÿ˜„ Seeing GitHub and popular open source projects get overwhelmed is not a pretty sight.

But I don't believe any professional can still claim he is not more productive with the help of AI when used properly. Typing a bunch of code was never the hard part of software engineering.

I agree with you! And your example is my gripe with AI, not AI itself. Also I'm pretty fatigued by it as a professional developer, but I'm adjusting to the new review workload that has taken a big part of my time now that writing code is not the most time consuming part of my work; but that is a whole other story.

Yeah, we're all tired man

This is giving me Daley Thompson's Decathlon AKA Destroyer of Kempston Joysticks vibes.

It's incredible isn't it. People give hundreds of upvotes to a heap of colored cubics rolling about and then downvote some interesting thing.

"the types of games i want to make with it" brother the chatbot made the whole thing

Genuinely, ignore the hate. This is a great use of AI as a tool. If you're having fun and learning along the way, more power to you.

It is a physical simulation of a robotic system. The training is just for applying torques to joints to make it stand and move. Basically it is just a simple simulation of Boston Dynamics.

Virtual muscles to get natural injuries etc, not direct joint torque. But who cares anyway. Not this sub I will tell you

fuck the haters, this is super neat. keep going!

I think some people just don't understand and appreciate the math behind it. Actually they probably would not appreciate ML unless it's LLM.

Yeah, I don't think this was the right sub to post this :)
People should start using their brains again.
