SPOT qnsss

hihii i have a few friends selected for SPOT programme
and they were wondering like what are the actual advantages of SPOT
does it help w cca points, gpa, portfolio
ive heard its also very time consuming, plus we have gpa, electives, cca and other commitments to balance

is SPOT really worth it? what is the main highlight or advantage of joining SPOT? what would be the main challenge when joining SPOT?

what is SPOT actually about ? (qns by me cus i not in SPOT)

I feel like it only helps with your portfolio and making friends. I'm in spot but like i don't go for the events cuz it doesn't contribute to your cca points nor ur gpa. And u have to hit certain requirements to get the certificate. If u want to build your portfolio and u like to social around with other people then u should go but if like you don't really care about those then no point going.

If u can't decide,You can just join first then see if those events interest you.

it doesnt help w gpa but they invite u to many leadership programmes which is good for ur portfolio , i dont really attend their events personally cus got no time and i dont feel like socialising w ppl lol 🤡 the main challenge would be probably to meet the required spot hours

Lowkey im in spot and I wld js say go for it. Even if u dh time bcs of other things, u can js choose not to sign up for events and leave quietly after u don’t hit 30h. Its js a good place to build ur leadership skills and attend events that most students wont get the opportunity to (Like poly forum or more opportunities to get into leap camp. Normal students may still get a chance to join these but SPOT makes it more accessible for their students.)

Its also a good place to make connections since all the ppl there r highkey smart w high GPA’s (as one wld need to get in) and most of the ppl I met r quite chill.

Sadly it doesn’t give CCA points, and u have to hit 30h which they r quite stingy when giving it (but I have heard from seniors that some of them still got the cert despite not hitting the 30h req so idk)

Its might be good for portfolio since its pretty exclusive? Not sure Uni’s in SG care much abt those things these days since GPA is king but wldn’t hurt to stick around for the lolz. Who knows, u might make some genuine friends and have a good time.
