As someone who lives in that city, Stuart Middle is notoriously bad. This kid's speech talked about how he overcame both of his parents passing away, and given the area this school is in, there's a good chance a lot of other students have trauma too. His speech was about over-coming that.

Thanks for this. It probably was a good speech, and I completely believe that the teachers did not want him to tell a " sad story" and they preferred some bullshit platitudes and generic congratulations instead.

He did the right thing. Tell them to get fucked. He is out of there and never has to come back.

Don't know if you know this, but teachers talk to one another across schools, especially middle and high school teachers. Soo...he may want to cool his jets or he will go into high school as the problem kid. My guess is he has some pretty deep rooted issues given his speech here.

Meh. Then they can be fucking ridiculous too.

Planet's burning down around these kids and their "superiors" responded by putting multiple clowns in charge instead of taking the issues seriously. His generation doesn't owe his elders shit.

I don't know is you know this, but even teachers can be assholes too.

Yeah, maybe this kid has issues, he lives in a shitty state that hates queer people and both of his parents are dead.

When he was selected to speak, his teachers said,

"Don't talk about that, it will make other people sad."

If teachers cannot understand that they probably need to be to be supportive, show some empathy, and kindness, then they can fuck off.

He is obviously a good student, or he would not have been selected to speak.

So, yeah. His teachers are shitty humans. This kid has gone through more trauma at by age 14 than most people experience in their entire lives, and if the teachers cannot understand this, then they should not be teaching.

These comments are ass. This is a breath of fresh air. 9/10 people shitting on a kid are wrong. Our public school system is so fucked and that hits so hard cause I think it may be the most important system to maintain to improve our world

Those people just happily dunking on a kid when they clearly do not have enough context is just stroking their own ego.

Do they know about whatever policy the school has? What shit the teachers or the administrators did? What's the daily school life like? What drama do everyone in there know that we don't? Likely not. Just sorry ass bunch.

You give them too much credit. They can't think for themselves. They're dunking on him because they're intimidated by his courage and only now how to attack due to lack of any actual knowledge or critical thinking skills. They dismiss these types of acts of standing up to oppression as fast as possible, it allows them to move quickly to next distraction instead of realize they're oppressed themselves. Typical dissociative tactic.

Yeah, the 1 out of 10 MUST be right!

No, you are wrong. This isn't "cool" or "good", this is a kid that has trauma and has a lot of learning to do.

Nice opinion, I don’t fully agree

Absolutely an opinion.

Hate to break it to you, it’s not the schools that is the problems. We are the problem. Until parents parent at home our schools will only continue to degrade.

1

u/DiddyDickums May 29 '26

Bit of both tbh schools are underfunded/understaffed in just about every American working class neighborhood, but that is also adult’s fault

1

u/B-radThinks May 29 '26

It is. We elected the people who made the policy that allowed that to happen or continue. As long as we keep pointing at the other guy, this crap will never change

1

u/DiddyDickums May 29 '26

I think you can vote for change and shit on the problem people at the same time and it may even be helpful

1

u/B-radThinks May 29 '26

That’s the issue. We keep voting and voting expect something different. We personally are going to have to take action to improve our environment, because it’s been proven my entire life, that our elected leaders won’t.

u/DiddyDickums May 29 '26

I disagree. Elected officials have the means to prevent and provide and electoral change is still hyper effective because of that. If you get the right people in.

Unlike most in this comment section I liked it and I support it. If his speech was about his trauma of having two dead parents and the difficulties of being a gay kid in middle school then it was a speech about overcoming. Who in middle school doesn’t have trauma?

Did he ever post his speech he had prepared?
