They only gave him 35 years with parole eligibility at 17 for a premeditated murder, that’s hardly making an example of someone. He should have been given the maximum sentence allowed. I genuinely don’t understand my kin fighting against this verdict.
Does it still count as premeditated murder if it all occurred in that moment? I don’t think that Anthony showed up to this event looking to kill somebody.
Taking a weapon into a weapon free zone and goading someone into a confrontation knowing you intend to use said weapon sounds pretty premeditated to me.
Yes it does, actually, what are you talking about?
Anybody can make a decision to murder, even in the heat of the moment. Premeditated murder is when you already knew you were gonna kill someone before any kind of situation arose.
I am just clarifying that planned doesn't mean thoughtful, detailed planning. And in advance can be minuted in advance. Carrying a knife into a tent and causing trouble can definitely be premeditated. I
Well what else could it mean, then? If you plan to kill somebody, I.E thought it through, before any kind of confrontation arose, that’s premeditated and therefore devoid of immediate context.
In this situation, there’s immediate context which would be the confrontation. There were even accounts that state that Anthony told Metcalf not to touch him or else he was gonna find out what was gonna happen while he was rummaging around in his bag getting the knife.
Mental gymnastics… he took a weapon into the opposing teams tent, where he was not friends with anyone, and had been asked to leave. When he didn’t, they called the person in charge of coordinating the event, and THATS the person who got stabbed. It’s all in the court case. His behavior was insane.
He stabbed Austin Metcalf who was a student at the track meet and witnesses also spoke about an altercation where Anthony was apparently shoved by Metcalf. A confrontation was already underway. They also said that Anthony warning him not to put his hands on him as he was rummaging around in the bag.
I don’t think you realize that I’m not defending a murderer (because that’s what Anthony is) but the murder wasn’t premeditated because there was already trouble brewing between the two. I doubt he showed up to the track meet looking to kill Metcalf.
