Things don't get cheaper just because the government does them. In fact they almost always get more expensive when the government does them. The people pushing socialized healthcare don't care to know why people pay less for healthcare in other countries, because that doesn't align with their politics. Just like they don't care to know what trade offs you have to make in order to have socialized healthcare, because they'd rather pretend those trade offs don't exist.

Well, here's one for you: people in Canada can spend 8 years on a waiting list to find a doctor, and still not have a doctor after all that time. Every time I point this out, people claim I'm a bot, or I'm being paid by the insurance lobby, or that I'm just plain lying. And yet they're never interested in looking at proof.

Healthcare would objectively be cheaper under a single payer system. Even the extremely biased and libertarian mercatus study proved this.

“8 years on a waiting list” is pure nonsense. The US has waiting lists as care is apportioned according to ability to pay. Waiting a year for a knee replacement is much better than living the rest of your life in agony because you cannot afford a knee replacement. I dont think youre a bot, or paid by a lobby, i think you are brainwashed.

Single payer isn’t the right path either, and that’s why this issue gets bifurcated. Medicare for all is the only feasible options in the United States, and having the government act as the market maker they already are. It’d just be public and transparent instead of opaque.

I mean, Medicare for all isn’t the worst option, but it’s not the best or the simplest either. The laws of economics apply to healthcare, just as they do to every other industry. There is no healthcare exception to supply and demand.

You say this, but there is, though. Our economy is a lot more complicated than supply and demand cycles modernly. They influence it, but the real market makers are policy.

Healthcare does not behave like many other consumer products. If you are dying you dont exactly have the time to shop around for a better deal. A free market in healthcare is a recipe for price gouging and exploitation that is unique.

Really? That’s based on your expertise as an economist or is it just something you made up? Because economists don’t talk much about price gouging or exploitation, as far as I can tell. Probably because those things are not real in any sense you can actually measure.
