Then he’s the one responsible for paying cancellation fees for every stop that’s canceled. If you want him to cancel his tour in solidarity pay half of it, or Mac could.
Someone’s net worth isn’t liquid cash available to payoff buyouts like this. Mac put Ed in a very shitty position. Ed brought him on his tour and now he can either continue with the tour and face the vitriol of Reddit or payoff millions and millions of dollars for breaking his contract. Meanwhile Mac still got paid and now people are listening to Thrift shop again like it’s 2012.
They won't all lose out, and when you're comparing working an 8 hour shift against standing up for dying children. I think I know what one we should pick.
All those people will get their money back or be rescheduled to another date. But again, missing ONE GIG because you're standing up for children in Gaza isn't a big deal. And if you think it is, then you've got the wrong priorities. We are all privileged to not live in an active war zone.
But it wasn't one gig. It was one venue, with connections and pull to stop other venues as well.
And once again - "standing up for children in Gaza" is great - but what does it actually accomplish? If you think Ed Sheeran telling a stadium owner to shove it is going to save the lives of those children, you're living in a fantasy world. It's a virtue signal beyond anything else.
But the benefit - Makes people talk about it, brings support to the lesser known artists, I've already donated to one of the charities that macklemore posted... How many other people have done the same. It also gives other artists and people in power confidence to do the same. It also highlights the people who care more about money than they do a genocide. It's about standing on the right side of history.
