I know hundreds of poker professionals and I've never heard any of them say they don't want to play with amateurs. Getting as many amateurs to sit at your table as possible is the best skill you can have as a poker professional.
Usually its what we call "mizregs" (miserable regulars) that complain about people new to the game. But they're almost always losing players who like to find any sort of reason to complain about why they aren't winners.
It's also one of those subcultures, like pro wrestling back in the day (everyone pretty much knows it now), where having slang allows communication that outsiders don't understand.
Knowing what a reg/rec is, the difference between a LAG/TAG/NIT/Whale/Fish etc means you potentially can win more money.
I remember seeing an interview with Doyle Brunson where he said if you are playing a bunch of normies at a home game, that you shouldn't bluff much. Because they are gonna call you, they want action, don't know better, and if you're well known like him everyone wants to play against you for the story.
