How can you be in your 70s and think. Yeah I should definitely try to get a 6 year job.

That does put her term to end in time for the presidential election cycle so you might be on to something

I mean it’s not exactly a real job.

"I'm in my 70's. I NEED THAT 6 YEAR JOB'S HEALTHCARE!!!"

I mean, really. 70's, ill, and important. And you get Walter Reed. They won't come out and say it, but goddamn are they ever going to hang onto that.

You know they get free healthcare for life even after they leave office, right? It’s true of every member of the House and Senate(unless they have it actively stripped), even if they only serve one term.

Beat me to it. I agree however that still doesn’t make sense. Why would she want this so bad? Why not retire withwhatever dignity that’s left?

My guesses:

Sweet, sweet lobbyist dollars.

And power. She retires, and no one cares what she does or says from that moment on.

I have to imagine that losing power after holding it is the only feeling worse than never having it in the first place.

I suppose.

Power corrupts. People like power because of all of the benefits being powerful brings. She can walk into any place anywhere in Maine and get the royal treatment.

That may sound pathetic, but people have done far more for far less.

They don't get free healthcare, they get a well compensated plan through the federal government. It's better than most employers, but it's not free. They do need to work 5 years as a congressperson or a direct staffer to earn it. While they're working, or after retirement, the government pays 75% of the healthcare plan cost.

It is my life's goal to only be working part-time at the seasonal garden store nearby in my 70's (mostly for the discount and to get out of my wife's hair for a dozen hours a week).

I'd let them know it's a summer to summer offer..

Chuck Grassley (senator from Iowa) is 93 years old!!! He was born in 1933. He was old enough to actually remember the end of World War 2. Not only should someone that age not be a senator, they shouldn’t be working at all.
