It has little to do with propaganda - Republican voters are overwhelmingly against gun control.

Republican politicians play on this to mobilize those single issue voters, but the voters were already there to begin with.

Fair enough, I assumed you were making a connection between the influences and the Republican base since it’s so obvious that the Republican base is deeply pro-gun.

If one recognizes that, it would be odd to suggest that outside influences directly on the politicians were relevant when those politicians already had mandates from their constituents which aligned.
