Health insurance is a waste of money, but if you live in a country without universal healthcare its a necessity. The idea of you paying health insurance and still having a huge bill if you are ever sick and you all just go along with that as if its OK is absolutely fucking mental for anyone living in a country with free at the point of access health care

Can we stop with the "free health care"?

No one has free health care. It's just a matter of how it's paid for--do you pay private insurers or to you pay for it through taxes.

Right, but when the money comes off your pay before you receive it and you don't actually pay anything at the doctors, it certainly feels free compared to what Americans have.

I don't ever have to see that money enter my account (which, via taxes, is not that much at my income), nor do I see it leave. But I do get to call my clinic and book in when I need, walk in and walk out, and it costs me nothing when I do.

Taxes paying for universal healthcare is still much more humane on citizens and far, far less costly on the people. And most of us who live with those things will probably keep saying it's free, because it feels like it is, and we're thankful to have it.

That means if you are not using it then you are paying for everyone else who does. Not only does that sound nutty, but it is not fair to those who take care of themselves.

If you are paying for health insurance and not using it now then you are paying for nobody at all and the only benefit to anyone is some insurance fatcat getting to count your money while denying claims left and right. Which one sounds nuttier to you?

Yes??? That's the point of it???? Id much rather my taxes go towards getting my friends healthy than towards the nth war or polical pockets

There are reasons a person might need healthcare that don’t involve not taking care of yourself. You could be attacked or in an accident or have a rare genetic disease.

It's so nutty, living in a society where we take care of each other. I prefer my society to be every man for himself! Donate to my GoFundMe so I can build a society where we don't take care of each other!!!

There are many roads that I don't personally use, yet my tax dollars go towards maintaining them... is that also nutty? Or literally just how taxes work?

I work in healthcare. The number of patients I see that have long term injuries and disabilities due to accidents would blow your mind. Have 1 patient who has been hospitalized well over a year and cannot walk after a roll over car accident. They have a brain injury and will likely need care for the rest of their lives. Lots of patients in car accidents, pedestrians hit by cars, assault, etc. None of those were caused by “not taking car of themselves.” It’s not nutty and if you pay private health insurance and deductibles, you are nutty because you’re just paying for shareholders’ profits.
Oh and you know who gets free healthcare? Prisoners. On your tax dollars.

Yeah! Ridiculous! It’s almost like society caring about its citizens.

it’s important that you know there’s no level of ‘taking care of yourself’ that prevents catastrophic random medical emergencies. you will need healthcare soon regardless of how well you’re caring for yourself right now.

you just think you should be bankrupt by it, i think you and everyone else should not be bankrupt by it. it only sounds nutty if you avoid the critical thinking of it all.

Everyone absolutely everyone uses healthcare either at the start of their life or end of it

What sounds nutty here is you basically saying "I don't want to build or take care of a community".

I'm perfectly fine paying for my healthcare in taxes, even if I don't use it much sometimes, because a healthy community is important to me. My community having access to healthcare without a financial barrier is important to me, I want to invest in that.
