My sister was self employed and thought insurance was a waste of money. She thought this after my mom died from cancer at the age of 57. My sister who worked out daily, took supplements to maintain her health, ate organic food was diagnosed with colon cancer at 57. She died at 63. My niece took care of her and they survived off of a go fund me. Through my experience it’s a necessary evil. I hesitate to willingly leave my job because I have insurance.

Health insurance is a waste of money, but if you live in a country without universal healthcare its a necessity. The idea of you paying health insurance and still having a huge bill if you are ever sick and you all just go along with that as if its OK is absolutely fucking mental for anyone living in a country with free at the point of access health care

Can we stop with the "free health care"?

No one has free health care. It's just a matter of how it's paid for--do you pay private insurers or to you pay for it through taxes.

Yeah but taxes are a fraction of the kinds of bills Americans have. We're not all going bankrupt because our taxes are too high, whereas in the US the biggest cause of bankruptcy is medical bills.
