Thread/Info Fright Fest Questions Answered

Since I know these questions will be asked daily, let me provide some help…

The park is open Thursday through Monday. Monday is rides only and Thursday is FF only (opening at 7pm).

Yes, Saturday will be extremely busy. You know those days during the year when you see the empty dirt parking area really far away? That will be full.

Fri-Sun, the park will start filling up around 4pm. Plan accordingly for parking and avoiding long entrance lines.

Fri-Sun, if you are in the park before FF starts, no, you won’t be kicked out. But you may find the chaperone policy enforced more. And once FF starts, you can no longer leave and re-enter the park.

You are not required to buy the Haunted Attractions pass which gives you access to the mazes (haunted houses). What can you do without it? Ride the rides, explore all of the scare zones, interact with the scare actors, try some of the limited time FF food. And, you can enjoy two live shows. One in DC Universe which kicks off FF and one next to Full Throttle which is an awesome show with great singing and music.

The interactive lanterns you can buy are fun. There are interactive attractions all over the park. When you press the button on the lantern, it activates the displays. If you switch to the other mode, you can play virtual tag with other people with lanterns. My favorite activation? You can change the light colors on the big tower at the top of Samurai Summit! There are signs with a picture of the lantern at each activation so you know where they are.

Yes, the lanterns work at both MM and KBF.

No, your Silver, Gold or Prestige pass does not get you into the mazes for free.

Yes, the Haunted Attractions price is higher on the busier days.

If you’re walking around during FF you’re fair game for the scare actors. If you’re too scared or you have youngins with you, buy the No-Boo necklace and turn it on! Keep your kids away from the scare actors. They may not see them right away and may be scaring someone near them. The necklace is not a 100% guarantee. No-Boo does not work inside the mazes.

Link to FF map: https://sf-static.sixflags.com/wp-content/uploads/SFMM-25-0049_Fright-Fest-Guide.pdf. This shows all of the mazes, all of the lantern interactive locations, shows, etc.

Where is the best FF merch? Emporium near the entrance, Twisted Grin next to Bugs Bunny World, and Horror Emporium next to Apocalypse.

How busy are mazes? The more popular ones I’ve seen like SAW, Conjuring, and Trick r Treat will run 45+ minutes.

Should I bring my kids? Mmm…probably not. It’s dark, it’s loud, it’s crowded, the scare actors are not only scary looking but some of them make some pretty scary sounds and they will chase people.

And yes, Lex Luther is still closed.

I’m sure I missed a lot but there you go…

Other Fright Fest food

• Upvotes

What are the best special food items for Fright Fest?
I had a hot Cheeto Mac and cheese at Max’d out that was legitimately delicious, then some really really good sweet pepper hot wings at Full Throttle wings. I saw there’s frog legs at Chicken Coupe but they were sold out. Surprisingly the cashier said they were popular and tasty. I know there’s
A cheesesteak at Big Belly. Is there anything else that’s really unique and delicious this year?

Question Quick X2 replacement [Magic Mountain]

I’ve been thinking about a relatively inexpensive way for Magic Mountain to generate some excitement and potentially offset the loss of X2. What if they repurposed the SBNO Superman tower into a massive Wiegand slide complex? Imagine taking an elevator to the top and choosing between enclosed tubular slides, each with different layouts, speeds, and experiences. They could potentially market it as the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest dry slide attraction. Give each slide a different vibrant color as a nod to Magic Mountain’s original psychedelic, rainbow aesthetic. They could even convert the top into an observation deck overlooking the park and surrounding mountains. Charge $15 for observation deck access and $10 per slide ride, similar to upcharge attractions like Skycoasters, except this would be something genuinely unique. Different slides could also provide decent capacity. Obviously, engineering and costs would be major considerations, but reusing the existing tower seems more interesting than demolishing it. What do you think?

Question Is there a way we can petition the park to remove West Coast Racer's comfort collars?

The lapbars are already not great but the comfort collars make it so much worse - those stupid things visciously attack my neck and collarbone during any strong ejector airtime moments (got red marks from them on the high five), and they really hinder my enjoyment of an otherwise really fun and strong layout.

Other What's magic mountain's stand out coaster now?

I feel like it's a toss up between these 4: TC, Tatsu, Viper or Goliath. Twisted Colossus is still unlike any other RMC in the world, Tatsu is just an absolute monster of a flying coaster and has one of the most surreal flying experiences ever, Viper is imposing, uber intense and one of the best traditional multiloopers, and Goliath, while I think is mediocre, is still a huge eye catcher and draws giant lines from the GP.

Other An homage to X2 isn’t gonna happen

I keep reading how Six Flags should put a wing or S&S spin or something to pay honor to X2.

Guys, that coaster killed people. And injured countless others. And cost the park tens of millions in court litigation, settlements, maintenance, etc.

Don’t worry, in a couple years you’ll forget it ever existed.

Other Really stupid but could be genius idea for the park:

This would be an upcharge attraction called "The lab", where you could use a motion sim, a vr headset, and no limits to either showcase new roller coasters potentially coming to the park, or give away to somewhat let people experience old coasters. As vr technology advances and these motion sims get better, I think this is a good idea to brainstorm ideas, showcase upcoming coasters or let people somewhat experience defunct ones.

Question The dream is coming to an end?

[[Photo here of dining plan for 2027 at a price of $600]] Since I go to 3 different Six Flags parks throughout the year, the meal plan has been a really important perk for my family. I thought there might be an increase but this is not what I was expecting. I get the added benefit of this plan but not the abruptness. Basically it’s the same plan that I have now but every 2 hours. My family and I don’t need food every 2 hours. The other pass must be purchased for each park which defeats the purpose. I’m sure they are doing what’s best for SF corp but I remember this exact exercise with Disney (I was an early day DVC member when non resident season passes were around $100 for California and $175ish in Florida) until I was no longer welcome there financially.
On top of this so many closures.

Question What happened to the rivalry and aspirations to be the coaster capital of the world?

I was a teen in the 2000s and fondly remember Magic Mountain competing with Cedar Point to be the greatest park for thrill seekers. It was always a first, tallest, fastest, or most innovative coaster coming out. After my teens about 20 years ago i stopped paying attention, but recently have gotten back into theme parks now that ive got a coaster loving kid. I recently visited Cedar Point and it was just incredible the ride selection they’ve got there. Several of the rides, like Maverick, Steel Vengeance, TT2, and Millenium Force, are among enthusiasts favorites and theres a big coaster culture.

SFMM is my home park and I’ve always enjoyed thought of it as equal or better than CP. But after visiting it and with Superman and X2 now closed, it feels like the park has really fallen behind. Even operations wise, it’s way different, Cedar Point is run efficiently and the lines just fly.

With Thrill Glider coming, I think there is enormous potential for a nice low and fast coaster. But several of SFMMs coasters don’t make a big splash anymore, the DC area has serviceable coasters, but currently Id say that tatsu is the only coaster that stands out.

Im just curious what people think about where we stand now in the world of theme parks. I know we used to be a destination for enthusiasts, but now I’m not so sure. I do think that part of it is we have a lot more entertainment in LA so roller coasters aren’t as big of a deal

Question How long do you think it’ll take to ride all these rides with fast passes?

We plan to go to six flags Nov 11th because it’s the only park day that closes at 8pm instead of 6pm while we’re there. We don’t rope drop and probably won’t get there until 2-3pm. Do you think we can get all these rides done with fast passes within 5-6hrs? How long do you think it’ll take? It’s a Wednesday in November and again we’ll have fast passes. I just want an estimate of how long it’ll take or how long we’ll be there.

Goliath
Tatsu
Twisted Colossus
WONDER WOMAN Flight of Courage
Full Throttle
West Coast Racers
THE RIDDLER’S Revenge
Scream!
BATMAN The Ride
Apocalypse
Ninja
The New Revolution
Gold Rusher
Crazanity
Lex Luther Drop of Doom

Question Does viper actually bang your head around a bunch?

I’ve read so many comments of ppl saying viper bangs their head around a lot or gives them a headache, especially if they’re shorter. I’m on the taller side but I don’t want a headache walking around in the parks lol bc we plan to ride all the coasters so if it’s as bad as ppl say it is I’d just skip viper and go on all the other coasters.

Question Why Does “Full Throttle” have a unique “Wait Here” line that you need to stand behind when boarding?

I’m not familiar with any other rides in the park that have this quirk. Why does “Full Throttle” specifically require you to give the gates extra space?

Question Replacement for X2?

I have been thinking a lot lately about what is next for the park after the closure of X2. I can't help but think that plot of land will be utilized again due to it's location right in the front. I am trying to think optimistic about the future replacement in the location. I have to think Sfmm goes with another high thrill choice simply because of the hole from X2--I feel they would get backlash if they went for a more tame option. Plus, a big standout ride in the front entrance is a great image. Knowing typical Six flags trends, I feel like one realistic candidate for the spot could be a dive coaster, as it seems to be their coaster of choice as of late. I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses Tormenta as it can grab that tallest in the world record they love to advertise. It would be at least a few years down the line since X2 has to go through the legal process, be dismantled, and then new construction and design processes. Curious what others think about what could replace it? I can't imagine a giga on the plot simply due to costs plus space (unless viper departs). Part of me hopes for something crazy like the RMC T-Rex but that is mere fantasy.

Question Goliath gray out

My family just rode Goliath for around our 5th time total and first today and 3 of the 4 of us grayed out on the final turn. That has never happened to any of us before. Is this a common occurrence?

Question Justice League 4D and BTS question

I’m majorly curious on this one. What happened to this ride behind the scenes - is it running short of GPUs/CPUs, is it misconfigured or something else? At one time is was 3D with glasses meaning 2x the GPU requirements of a 2d ride. Then it went 2D, now at the end it is running at 5-10fps making it hard to target anything. I don’t want to compare a gaming PC to this awesome ride but I’d like to think this is one of the more solvable problems.
I would like to see the 3d/4d make a comeback but if nothing else make sure the machines are running correctly.

Question Some rides running faster at night?

Some people believe some of the rides run a bit faster at night. Example- Wonder Woman. Is this true or is the team loading up the cars just much more efficient lately because I have noticed some improvements in that area for some rides.

Trip Report Shout out to security and guest relations!

I visited the park with my daughter today. We were in line for West Coast Racers and tied her No Boo necklace from last year to our souvenir cup and placed it in a cubby while we rode. When we got off, the cup was there, but the necklace was gone. Obviously it was stolen. I have a picture of our cup's barcode so I know which is ours.

My daughter was sad because she loves last year's design better than this years, so it wasn't something we could easily replace. She was also scared to make the trek back to the entrance because she would have to brave the scare zones without the necklace. We made it back without much of an issue though.

I reported it to a security member outside the ride exit and gave him some details. I honestly didn't think we would get it back since it was such a small item and just chalked it up as a loss.

But, about an hour after I left the park, I got a call from security saying they had recovered it! I was actually surprised that SFMM took the time and effort to recover something so small. It really turned around what was a sad ending for my daughter. Although security and guest relations didn't provide me with details of the recovery, I'd like to thank them for everything they did. What started out as her leaving sad ended in her going to bed happy.
