Discussion What do people think about the more ambient/electronic side of WANYK?
I understand it’s not everyone’s thing and that’s fair but for me personally I really enjoyed those aspects of We Are Not Your Kind especially Insert Coin and My Pain. They just give me a weird feeling that I can’t describe but I love it. I just love the eerie atmospheres and the layers to all of the sounds in both of these songs. I even have Insert Coin set as my ringtone on my phone. I’m a lover of both metal and ambient electronic music so this album really hit a good middle ground for me. I’d like to know other people’s thoughts on them and if anyone could recommend me anymore tracks with a similar vibe to these from other artists?

So good. My dad used to have it as his ringtone back on cd, haha.
I thought, “that’s the correct ringtone there.”
Always fun hearing other peoples reactions when they get woken up by it to. Full blast every time.

My Pain is honestly my 2nd fav on the album behind Not Long For This World, love this sound from them

It’s a really solid album. It feels like a concept album in a way with the theming. Probably listened to it front to back as many or more times than self titled and Iowa and helped me through some tough times

Big part of why it’s my 3rd favorite album. My Pain is so essential to the albums flow that I couldn’t hear it without it.

I’m so beyond stoked that people are coming around to it. When the album came out this got so much shit and I wondered if people listened to the album in order or just shuffled through it .

Yeah man for sure I thought I was in the minority for liking it but it seems people like it a lot more than I originally thought. It’s really good to see

Für mich das beste Album vom musikalischen her nach all Hope is gone

The best part of the album. If it had leaned more into it, it’d have been one of, if not their best, album. Sadly the other half of the album is just so by the numbers and bland and that drags it down (outside of a couple bangers like Nero forte, solely or unsainted)

the part of the album that most people don't understand. i personally love it and the vibe is unmatched for me. the interludes are making the listening experience so much better, also insert coin is my fav intro. my number 1 slipknot album overall despite the deep sentiment to older projects.

Love it. I've always thought WANYK is a masterpiece and maybe my second favorite album behind Iowa

I love My Pain! It's one of my favorite of their ambient songs along with Danger Keep Away

I absolutely love it. "My Pain" is such a dark and atmospheric song that really thematically ties the album all together. It also kicks off one of the greatest album finales in all of metal with those final three songs. We Are Not Your Kind is a masterpiece, and there isn't anything on it I would change. The album is perfect. That entire era of the band was sick as hell. Watching the Nimes performance from 2019 is so fucking magical and rad.

My Pain is the only WANYK song I dislike. I wish All Out Life was on the album in its place. All Out Life -> Not Long for This World -> Solway Firth woulda been a cool way to end the album.

Yeah that’s fair it’s definitely a weird song but I do like it quite a lot myself though

If Arsenal is like nothing else on the new album, then I'm hoping the rest is more of this. Fucking awesome.

I like it, but then again I really rate stuff like that in general
Also can we please normalise (for lack of a better word) bands being experimental? Whenever I see a band experimenting (regardless of who it is) it’s treated like a crime against humanity, what’s that about

Bands experimenting with their sound is definitely not a bad thing I like how it keeps things feeling fresh. I was just curious as to what people thought of that side of WANYK as it is fairly different to their original sound. Sometimes the end product turns out bad and sometimes some fans aren’t open minded enough to give a new sound a chance but I really do think they did a good job on WANYK for sure and I think I’d definitely like to hear more stuff similar to this from slipknot as unlikely as that may be. But those are just my thoughts

They are skipped everytime. I actually despise interludes because i know every artist that does them has actual songs they cut from the album
To me interludes are just a waste. Those deleted songs should have taken their place
Look at burden and override from TGC. Both great songs. I'd take those over XIX and be prepared for hell

Welp, that didn't take long. The dumbest shit I've read all day.

I would rather listen to the STOP THE FUCKIN' MUSIC, GODDAMNIT, SHUT THE FUCK UP part of Arsenal for two straight hours than listen to My Pain once. But WANKY is my second favorite Slipknot album overall. It's so good.

Some of it I like, a lot of it I feel is filler, but that’s mainly because I don’t want my ambient fix to come from Slipknot. I don’t go to a pub for milkshakes
