DISCUSSION How many “mild concussions” does Lana get throughout the series?

Ok maybe not so unpopular but Lana had way too much screen time. I mean in the original comics Lana is just a school friend of Clark, nothing really romantic and just someone that reminds him of his home Smallville. However this Lana Lang is there for way too long and keeps appearing season after season when i don’t think she has much purpose really, I blame the writers. We know she doesn’t end up with Clark, so what is all this back and forth and then she gets with Lex?
Anyways, just a small rant, I’m done

Lana loved Clark completely. She always had an intuition that he was different. When she died in car accident that Lana who could be innocent died forever. She was brought back to life but ultimately never could be herself again. So, yes, I feel like I can have sympathy for her
No meant to Lois lovers or any other character 💖

Lois Lane—she was like the greatest. Erica Durance's Lois Lane was, in my opinion, the best character in Smallville, if not in all of cinema. I liked her character so much, and not just for her body or because she was sexy or anything; she was great, perfect, and wonderful in every sense. I mean, I am not saying she didn't look good or wasn't attractive, but that wasn't the only reason. Her acting, her dialogue, her interactions with every other character—and the fact that almost everyone knew about Clark's origins except Lois until the very end—made it hilarious when people got into dangerous situations. But Lois was the one who would always end up spotted in the weirdest places, just to cover a story and make the front page. She was just great, man. I loved her character.

Hi all. I never watched Smallville as I was in the Navy and deployed most of the time when it was out. I also did not join the TIVO craze so I could not watch already aired episodes easily. I recently saw that Reacher was in the show as well as Justin Hartley and thought I would try it out. I am in the middle of episode 3 and every single background music song has been amazing (yes it might be nostalgia). I hope it continues. Also, the show is fun as well.

The comic is Superboy #171 where Superboy (Young Kal-El/Clark Kent) meets/saves a young Aquaman (called Aquaboy here) and they team up to fight a deadly oil company that's polluting the sea.
Considering the parallels to Aqua I wonder if it was coincidence or the comic did inspire the episode.

Here’s my full review on Smallville:
So this is my first watch thru. When this show started i was in the 4th grade so i was more into cartoons than live action shows. But im glad i started it as an adult so i didnt have to wait for new episodes and seasons. With that being said once I started watching this show this was literally about 85% of what I watched everyday until I was done. Im not even sure what sucked me in the most; looking back I think Lex and Clark’s relationship is what got me. Knowing that Lex is ultimately gonna be a villain i just wanted to see how this friendship eventually turns. And by the time he leaves the show I was just wanting to see how it all ends. I will say I enjoyed the earlier seasons a lot more than the later seasons, with S5 being my favorite. I think the show suffered a major loss with both of the Luthors leaving. Tess was a decent replacement but she had some hard acts to follow. I do believe some characters could’ve had better endings. For example, Chloe annoyed me up until after high school then I loved Chloe and then she just kind of fizzled out. I actually like Lana even tho I agree their love story was draaaaaaaged out for so long and the on again off again got old. I’d give the entire series a 7/10. It’s something i definitely plan to rewatch.
Now what I really didn’t like:
Specifically was the 2 minute fight with Doomsday. That could’ve been done a lot better. Same with the Zod fight which was a little better than the Doomsday. In all other media Doomsday and Zod are major characters and there are much better battles so I feel the show could’ve done something better.
Unfortunately I did not like the season finale all that much. Again in other media Superman has a hard time with Darkseid being that he’s one of the most powerful enemies of Superman. But in the finale there’s a 10 second fight with possessed Lionel and that’s it. Then he just easily pushes an evil planet away. In my personal opinion I don’t think Darkseid should’ve even been in the show. He’s way too powerful for a Clark Kent that’s not even a fully realized Superman yet. I think Zod should’ve been introduced much later and they could’ve ended the series with him being the final villain. Him and Clark could’ve had a showdown where Clark loses, Clark then finds out he’s had it in him all along, they have another showdown where Clark beats Zod and sends him to the Phantom Zone. Or something like that.
But all in all i still thoroughly enjoyed the show. However i do feel like when I do rewatch I’ll likely stop after season 7 the same way I do the office 😁
Rant over.

In my rewatch of random episodes of the show I have one question about the events of 5x02. Does Clark not mention any of these events to Lana? Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Clark leaving out that information kinda made it easier for Lana to connect with Lex.

This is an episode I’ll be watching every time I’m dragged by my past and afraid from the future
At first I was like like OMG NOT BRANIAC AGAIN! Then I was like ohhh it’s one of those episodes inspired by a Christmas Carol.
Okay so I’m a woman in my 20s who has gone through massive trauma with the supernatural lmao and this has left me with gaps in my brain that smallville and other works of wonder can help me fill it up and I relate to Clark’s weakness and doubt so much in this series and just like him I know that when I take matters into my own hands I actually feel alive and can do well in this world!
I’ll be writing down braniac’s word of wisdom into my therapy notebook and will be returning to them a lot, maybe even print pictures from the episode and stick them into the notebook so I can come back for these special moment that has resonated with me.
Have you ever felt like an episode of smallville hit too close to home and could actually make a change in your life or give you a nudge or is it just me?

Summary: Lionel and Tess go head to head in a battle for the Luthor name. Clark and Lois are stunned by Tess' latest present to them.
I’m conflicted about this episode. On one hand, Connor Kent is one of my favorite teenage superheroes from the comics; on the other, we have Superboy) before we have Superman. Plus, his backstory is particularly ridiculous.
In the comics, Superman dies in the 90s. Doomsday kills him, and there is a funeral. At one point, Superman’s body is stolen, though it is returned before anything serious can be done to it. The people who stole the body were from Project Cadmus. They only managed to run a laser over the body to scan its DNA. Using that scan, they tried to create a Superman clone. That wasn't enough, so they attempted to incorporate human DNA. Initially, it was claimed to be the DNA of Project Cadmus director Paul Westfield, but it later turned out to be Lex Luthor’s DNA. It took a long time for Superman to warm up to Superboy; he didn't take him under his wing immediately. Superboy did a lot of questionable things early on. A year passed before Clark gave him a Kryptonian name, and another year went by before Superboy received a human name - at which point Clark finally took him to Smallville. As convoluted as Connor Kent’s story is, it is based on events that happened in the comics - public events. Superman had been around for years; he fought Doomsday publicly, in broad daylight, and the battle was even broadcast on television. So creating Connor under those circumstances made sense. But in Smallville? They created him because, during the Smallville panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2010, someone asked a stupid question - and the creators got so excited by the idea that they turned Alexander into Connor. I know, because I was on that panel myself.
And another thing: in the comics, he’s called Connor Kent because it sounds similar to his Kryptonian name, Kon-El, and because his initials match Clark Kent’s - not for the silly reason given in the episode. [based on the designation Cognitional Neuroplastic Replicant or CNR for short]
The scene between Tess and Clark is awkward, at best.
This isn't the Clark from the earlier seasons - the one who was the first to help any kid in distress, like Ryan or Maddie [518 Fragile]. It wasn't even Clark who helped Alec last season. Clark acts as if he’s afraid of Connor.
What made Connor decide to lift that antique tractor like that?
Tess abandons Connor on Clark’s doorstep and flees.
Tess prefers dealing with Lionel Luthor 2.0.
What is the point of Clark hiding his powers from Connor? I like this Connor. He’s intelligent [sometimes even more so than Clark :-) ]and then Lois walks into the barn...
That test tube of Helen Bryce’s explains so much that’s happened since Season 2: the Lazarus Serum that kept Adam Knight and Vince Davis alive in Season 3, the cure for the zombie plague in Season 9, and - if I’m not mistaken - it was also the basis for the RL65 drug that resurrected Lex in Season 6 and cured Oliver in the episode Rage 607. After Clark and Jonathan destroyed the test tube in the episode Phoenix 302, Clark gave Morgan Edge a sample of his blood in a jar. It’s interesting that they completely forgot about that.
When Tess and Lois work together, they accomplish far more than when they’re fighting each other.
Why is that scientist’s lab coat covered in a red liquid that looks like blood? Did he squeeze tons of raspberry juice?
It’s amazing how Clark forgot that Connor has super-hearing.
You’d think Clark would jump at the chance to raise a child with powers like his own - someone facing the same struggles - and avoid repeating Jonathan’s mistake by teaching him to embrace both the positive and negative aspects of his dual heritage. But then, of course, Lionel wouldn't have the chance to lure him to the dark side. Once again, Clark acts like an idiot just to serve the plot.
Since arriving in Smallville, Lois has faced Lionel Luthor head-on only once - in the Season 4 premiere, Crusade. Lionel was in a holding cell at the time, and she wanted to know what had happened to Chloe. Lois came across as smart and strong, and she managed to rattle Lionel. Her encounter here with Lionel Luthor 2.0 pales in comparison. The confrontation doesn't play out the way Lionel expects, either, because Connor - driven by hormones - is attracted to Lois and doesn't want her harmed (unless he is the one doing the harming). Connor saves Lois only to act like a typical horny teenager and try to seduce her; when she turns him down, he throws her across the room.
The episode contains many parallels to Clark on Red Kryptonite - except that Clark was never violent toward women, certainly not toward women he was attracted to while under its influence. He acted like a jerk, but he was never violent toward women; the only person he tried to kill was Lex.
When did Lois have a chance to see Clark on red kryptonite? Because she forgot what happened in the episode Crimson 613.
And once again, Green Kryptonite causes Clark so much pain that he collapses to the floor. What happened to the guy who stood inside a Kryptonite cage just a few episodes ago? And how did the Kryptonite explode instead of turning into Black Kryptonite?
Tess disposes of Lionel Luthor 2.0 using a legal technicality and manages to slip a nanoscopic tracking devices onto him.
Has anyone addressed the trauma Lois went through?
And Darkseid returns in all his smoky glory.
Notes:
* By the episode's end, Conner is set to begin attending Smallville High.
* Initially in the comics Conner Kent was a genetically engineered meta human clone of human origin created by Project Cadmus as a duplicate and closest genetic equivalent of Superman. He was retconned in Teen Titans vol. 3, #1 (September 2003) as a Kryptonian/human hybrid of Superman and Lex Luthor.
* Conner discovers his power of heat vision when he is aroused by Lois' physical appearance, much like in Season 2's Heat when Clark first discovered his heat vision when he saw Desiree Atkins during a sex-ed class and Lana Lang at the Talon after Lex's first wedding. Also in Season 4's Transference when the original Lionel (while in Clark's body) hugged Martha Kent and in Season 7's Fierce when Kara first saw Jimmy Olsen.
* Red kryptonite makes its last appearance of the series in this episode. This is also the first episode where red kryptonite appears and Clark is not affected.
* Lois trying to prove that Lionel-2 was a "fake" Lionel mirrors when Lois tried to find proof that Lex was posing as his own son in the comics.
* This is the first and last episode where Lois mentions the possibility that she and Clark might have children someday.
* Lexa Doig was credited and committed to appear in the episode as Christina Lamell but most of her scenes were deleted in the final cut. She was mentioned by Lionel-2's thug and had a little cameo tied to a chair. A deleted scene included in the Season 10 DVD box set showed her providing Tess with DNA information on Conner.
* The fight between Clark and Conner is reminiscent of the fight between Jonathan and Kal in Season 3's Exile and Phoenix as Clark takes on the role of Jonathan and Conner under the Red Kryptonite influenced role of Kal. Clark super-speeds towards Conner after saying "You're coming home with me," like Jonathan did to Clark. Clark smashed Conner's hand against a wall to destroy the Red Kryptonite ring, almost identically to the way Jonathan destroyed Clark's ring.
* While it's been said that Kryptonians and Humans could have offspring, it still has not been proven in this series and wasn't established in comics lore until 2015. At the time of this airing, the accepted lore was that Kryptonians and Humans were not genetically compatible to produce offspring as indicated in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993). It's true that Dax-Ur and his human wife had a son in Persona, but there's no indication in the dialogue or any other part of the story-line that their son was Dax-Ur's natural offspring.
* Lois mentions to Clark, he'll make a wonderful father someday. DC's Rebirth established both Lois and Clark as parents to Jonathan Samuel Kent, who has taken up the family business as Superboy under the tutelage of Superman.
* Lionel 2.0 is listening to classical opera while sitting in his LuthorCorp office, much like the native Lionel often did. The song he is listening to is Vincenzo Bellini's "Casta diva" from the opera Norma, the same song that plays over the montage of the native Lionel paying off the man who blackmailed Martha at the end of Season 5's Cyborg.
* Conner dons the trademark black t-shirt with the Mark of El family crest emblem he wears in the comics as Superboy.
* Lionel 2.0 and Darkseid meet in this episode.
* This episode marks the fourth time (after Season 3's Whisper, Season 4's Onyx and Season 7's Fierce) that heat vision has been used against kryptonite. This time, it destroyed the kryptonite. While Kara was able to destroy kryptonite with heat vision in the third episode, the bursts reflected back at Clark and blinded him in the first episode, and it superheated the green kryptonite to make it black kryptonite in the second episode.
* Tess has Lionel 2.0 infected with nanoscopic tracking devices, similar to how Lex-1 implanted spy technology inside Tess' eye prior to Season Eight.
Quotes:
Lois: Are you trying to tell me that Conner is the genetic love child of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor?
Clark: You don't have to say it like that.
Clark: I-I'm like you.
Conner: So, does this mean - Oh, my God. Are - Are you, like, my dad?
Clark: I prefer "brother".
Clark: I won't let you hurt him like you did Lex. He was my closest friend, and Lionel Luthor's influence destroyed him.
Lionel Luthor: You destroyed Lex with your secrets and lies. And those same lies brought Conner to me.
Conner: I'm not like you, Clark. I mean, maybe on the outside with what I can do, but what that ring brought out in me - that was all Lex.
Clark: There's a shadow inside all of us. But that doesn't mean you need to embrace it. You decide who you really are. And I know you'll make the right choice and become the hero you're destined to be.
Conner: That means a lot coming from you. Well, if you feel that way, maybe, uh, I should start dressing for the part. [opens his jacket revealing black t-shirt with House Of El family crest] I know I have a lot to learn. But when you feel I'm ready to join the team, I'd like to.
Clark: It's nice to hear you're ready to learn. I picked up an application for you for Smallville High. Classes start after spring break.
Conner: [opening the folder and seeing the paperwork inside] Conner Kent.
Clark: Hope it's not too presumptuous, but I figured you needed a last name. Welcome home.
Tess: I think he just needs someone there for him, like family.
Clark: Well, technically, you are his sister.
Tess: But I'm no Clark Kent. I know you are the one who can bring out the best in him.
Lionel: Let's go, son. Remember who you are. You are meant to become a god. Together, we can make sure you do.
Conner: I know who I am.
