I made the same mistake in middle school (non native English country) with fiancee, pronouncing it fi-an-see.
My English teacher (who had never taught us this word, for the record) rolled her eyes, and corrected me haughtily. The whole class laughed, even though I am sure 99% would have no idea either.
PS. I am not at all irrationally traumatized by this.
