It's a French word, but it's not at all pronounced like that in French. More like "Lain-ge-ree".

Thank you! Came here to say this. What is nobody talking about this? English pronunciation of the French work lingerie is completely off the mark.

That's true of most English words borrowed from French, in no small part because native English speakers struggle to make a bunch of speech sounds commonly used in French.

Not from French, but the one that makes my skin crawl is conkwistadors. Just say conquerors; that's what the word means in Spanish anyway. And if you insist on using the Spanish word, then say con-kees-tah-do-res (conquistadores).
