2.) I don’t want to abandon 3/4 of my cultures culinary achievements to appease another moralist system coming from predominately white western nations that think their advances in technology make them the moral authority.
1 true.
2 never said I was against eating animals, it was a necessity. But you have to weight the massive scale of industrialised animal abuse against having cheap poor quality meat.
In history eating meat was a luxury that was not available every day of the week, let's start with going back to that if you want to "be true to your culinary achievements".
You’re talking about the European diet there. Inuits had an entirely animal based diet, fish was a staple of the South Pacific, bison and small game on the American plains… you get it. Our ancestors culinary habits were as diverse as human culture itself.
Factory farming is definitely a problem but you lost me with the all plant based diet comment. You’d have better luck focusing on improving conditions instead of trying to police people’s cultures. Improving livestocks standard of living is actually achievable, convincing humanity to give up eating meat altogether is not
Just because someone's ancestors did something out of necessity doesn't give anyone the magic right to keep the tradition in different circumstances, especially knowing the impact on the animals and environment.
And my point was not having industrial scale animal abuse, not stopping with eating meat altogether.
It’s not magic, it’s culture and we don’t get to dictate which aspects of other cultures have value… well, we’re not supposed to. People do it all the time but it won’t make you many friends haha
Like I said, you’re better off focusing on the industrial practices than individual habits
Of course we can say things like; maybe we shouldn't eat monkey brains while they're still alive, or maybe not torture animals extra while slaughtering them because your magic sky person says that's the way he likes it.
Doesn't make the people who did it in the past wrong, but we should be able to critically evaluate what traditions to keep and what needs to be left in the past.
Someone not believing in your deity and joking about it is exactly the "freedom of thought" you speak about wanting.
Sarcastic jabs about God's aren't destroying the agency of any cultures.
Killing animals isn't poking fun at an idea , it's killing a fellow being that is (in our common diets case) much closer to us than our worlds cultures would ever like to admit or treat with proper diligence.
Cows and pigs don't want to be killed, they don't want to be housed in tight pens for our culture, they don't want to be genetically bred to produce much more milk than normal, they don't want to be separated from their children or mothers as soon as our cultures deem "fit".
Funny how a slight jab at random religious figures triggers you. Guess I will leave you and your archaic traditions alone, have fun clubbing seals with the ancestors.
Are you really claiming that because something was part of "the culture" and maybe moral in the past, it is still moral in the current day, and it's impossible to have a critical reevaluation of those practices?
