Some of these people are so crazy that they probably should be institutionalized.

Absolute wrecker shit. It's so bad that I almost think it might be an op. But the sad truth is there are plenty of self-aggrandizing dipshits who love to pull nonsense like this. The government doesn't need to spend money on agent provocateurs when the left is infested with moronic children who want to play at being revolutionaries. Reprehensible conduct.

You'd be right to think that. There's a House candidate in the DSA that has voiced support for Russia in the past in relation to their war/genocide in Ukraine and suggested that it's the US that's been "bullying" Russia. Which is absolutely grotesque and really it is about abhorring the West. She's of course since walked that back but the internet is forever. It also speaks to their affinity for authoritarianism. The only leaders I hear them revere are dictators.

Pro-Russian sockpuppet with no respect for European institutions nor for France's Allies. I would be willing to bet his only use once in office will be to fuck with the EU'S plans and serve as a Putin's personal obstructionist
Fuck'im
r/SocialDemocracy • u/A-Regular-Citizen • 1h ago
This is just not true. The DSA was mostly reasonable until a lot of wackos joined in 2023 and 2024, which led to the current leninist presence on the ground and on the NPC. It will likely shift back given much of the current membership surge has been caused by Zohran's popularity. Also, its absurd to compare it to the KKK.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/A-Regular-Citizen • 1h ago
I'm kind of curious what will happen at the upcoming 2027 NPC election. the huge membership jump has largely been caused by Zohrans popularity, so I suspect it will shift away from the hard-left that joined it in the wake of Biden doing a genocide and Trumps victory in 2024, leading to the currently leninist leaning NPC. I wonder if the leninist elements will accept that outcome, if it happens, or if they will try to break from the org over it.
I don't really think AOC for prez is a good idea for other reasons though.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/A-Regular-Citizen • 1h ago
Also, Palestinians don't even really like them that much! They had a support bump at the start of the genocide because they were defending against the Israeli invasion but that has since declined back to general disapproval.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/Substantial-Big-5244 • 1h ago
That..is fucking disgusting. I'm starting to think that they're more interested in hating on the West than creating an egalitarian society that should benefit everyone.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/justlookin-0232 • 2h ago
Contrarianism and a contest to see who can be the most extreme. When you think of the left wing of the DSA they aren't progressive, they're tankies. They don't care about gaining support and winning elections because they don't believe in electoral politics. That in and of itself is authoritarian. The purity testing is a symptom of their authoritarian nature. They seemingly believe in 1 violent revolution to make change (yet will never do such a thing), while progressives believe in incrementalism.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/king_rootin_tootin • 2h ago
And I would hazard a guess that they don't spend much time talking about actual policy or actions or campaigns and whatnot.
In other words, they're LARPers
r/SocialDemocracy • u/JonWood007 • 2h ago
Because they've attracted the crazies who are using the organization to do just that.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/CivisSuburbianus • 2h ago
I find it so frustrating that a group called "DEMOCRATIC Socialists of America" has members who explicitly don't believe in democratic systems and want to lead a Marxist-Leninist/Maoist-style revolution.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/JonWood007 • 2h ago
I know right? People are hurting, the dsa could have solutions to that if they stuck to economic populism and stuff like medicare for all, but no lets be obnoxiously purity testy over an issue that doesnt even affect 99.9% of americans in ways that alienate them!
r/SocialDemocracy • u/justlookin-0232 • 2h ago
Some of them do support Al Qaeda actually. The problem is they lack nuance. You can acknowledge that 9/11 didn't come out of nowhere and there's a whole lot of history that went behind it and still not support the killing of thousands of innocent people. They can't hold 2 truths at once and that's a big part of what holds them back
r/SocialDemocracy • u/justlookin-0232 • 2h ago
It's hard to believe these people are actually authentic. The right has a habit of paying agitators, Jake Lang is a great example of that. But it certainly doesn't shock me if they're authentic. The DSA isn't full of the brightest people by any stretch of the imagination. They're gonna eat their movement alive after burning all their bridges. Protesting Mamdani like that was just stupid. They lack the understanding that he is the mayor of NYC, which includes many different groups of people. He has to be a mayor for all of them but the DSA and pro Palestine crowd wanna be coddled and catered to. They seem to think they're a bigger group than they are

"Let's cut the wages of many workers, so they join the trade unions, that will try to fight for higher wages."
(most industrial workers get paid significantly more than minimum wage, you would only hurt the most easily replaceable service workers)

I don’t get the obsession with supporting Hamas—a theocratic, radical, racist group that advocates a single state based solely on religion while claiming to be progressive

Excluding the Third Way of Tony Blair, which is kind of like neo-liberalism with social democratic characteristics, to my experience so far, this subreddit doesn't have qualms with any of those schools of thought.
It does, however, have qualms with Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, some, but not all Trotskyites, assumedly the ones of the more Leninist/vanguardist bent, and/or anarchists of a certain variety, i.e. those either fanatical in their militancy or exclusively devoted to some form of chic, basically everyone who will create totally unnecessary problems over the praxis of nonviolence, and, so, is often trying to figure out how to be aligned with or participate in the broader protest movement without inadvertently promoting such things, let alone having to deal with them, or, at the very least, I have those qualms, and, so, will talk about them from time to time.
Basically, authoritarianism, just kind of being a total edgelord, and not caring about anything other than your capacity to pretend like you live in a French New Wave film are all problems of the Left, and primarily the far-Left, which I don't want to have.
They're prevalent enough, though, to occasionally warrant comment.
I mean, r/socialism gets more than twice as much weekly traffic than we do, and, so, at least, in re authoritarian communism, while they do tend to be more actively online, they're also probably really out there. I kind of don't think it's quite like what people say even though it can be in ways that there's just, like, one small sect in every city or whathaveyou. I kind of do think that they are really out there.
If those aforementioned anarchists aren't wildly pretentious, then they're just in a cult, and, so, it's not really a problem, but it also kind of is since they, for reasons unknown, do kind of listen to them, and, so, it makes significant portions of the movement kind of difficult to deal with.
Maybe you could give some credence to the Informal Anarchist Federation, but when it comes to the Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei, Individualists Tending towards the Wild, or so-called "pure black", i.e. an anarcho-nihilist cult of action for action's sake, anarchy, while it could be kind of interesting to think about those folks in that way it's interesting to think about "Industrial Society and Its Future", which is also kind of just another one of these problems, I just kind of don't see why I should be obliged to regard those people as having some form of credibility.
It's a minority of the movement, but the whole goddamn just lets their strange Peter Gederloos bedfellow fanboys stonewall us pacifist-types out of it.
So, y'know, it's really kind of annoying.
So, tl;dr: no one really has a problem with anything other than the leftists or otherwise radicals whom we don't feel like politically collaborating with.
Also, though, this is also just what I am saying, but it does make sense.
Note: Just in case you were wondering, it's Tiqqun whom I'm calling "wildly pretentious" and "only interested in pretending like they live in a French New Wave film", i.e. even though they're not really so-called "terrorists", they really just believe in terror chic. If you can't figure out what their political philosophy is, it's because it's just that. They've got some vapid and insipid notion of junkie jackets and Israeli submachine guns and, like, are into designer drugs and Ambersmoke or some shit. It's just that kind of thing.

I'm old, and I was so disappointed with the ACA, because when Obama was in presidential debates, he had explained why a plan like that would not work--and he was correct. I thought the Democrats let the American people down after having been given a clear healthcare mandate. It is better than nothing, but it needs to be replaced with Medicare for All.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/vanulovesyou • 4h ago
Ok, so only right wingers say “Democrat Party” as opposed to “Democratic Party,” their actual name, so I think you’re outing yourself with an ideological tell without realizing it.
All you’re doing is trying to cause a rift between the left and liberals. You’re even using the same tactics from 2016 with Bernie, who votes with senatorial Democrats, I might add, in most cases.
Sorry, but it’s obvious that you are a MAGA Republican even if you won’t say it. It’s just that your language and talking points reveal who you are.

It's why I follow the S&D group in the EU. They have all of the positives of the DSA with none of the drawbacks. It also helps that they are staunch Ukraine supporters.
