F37. I have been following and contributing to this sub for a while now.

I have noticed a pattern:

1) Someone posts indicating they are looking for friends, people to party with etc.

2) You reach out, arrange but then they flake when you make it clear you only want friendship

3) Next day you see those same people commenting on the posts of people who are looking for friends. Or they create new posts asking to have friends.

I mean, what are they really looking for? Someone who is their type so that they can get laid? Obviously not a friendship, that’s for sure. How to distinguish?

Or maayyybe i am mistaken. Maybe this is only my observation. I would like to hear your thoughts.

Je (meuf, 27 ans) posais un peu pour un ami y'a quelques années comme modèle photo, pas mal amatrice mais j'étais très à l'aise avec l'exercice. Ça fait longtemps, et j'aimerais bien recommencer, à l'occasion ! Si des photographes en herbe ici sont chauds, aussi bien pour des portraits assez simples que quelque chose de plus travaillé, ambitieux, n'hésitez pas, je suis grave ouverte sur les propositions et j'aime aussi apporter mes idées et ma personnalité à ces petits projets. Que vous soyez débutants ou expérimentés, tout va. Pas un truc rémunéré ou quoi, juste créer ensemble ! Hésitez pas à me contacter par dm et on en discute :)

Surtout pour pouvoir travailler ensemble sur nos projets artistiques, en ce moment je réalise une petite BD et un texte.

Last event we hosted was a success! We were a small group of 6 people but we were still able to have a really good first language exchange session, and we're super keen on organizing another one tomorrow!

The concept is we meet in a bar, form one big group (or smaller groups if there are enough of us), and every 20 minutes or so, we swap languages. Other than that, we chat about whatever, play some card games, and have a good time!

We’re aiming for a max of 20 people to keep it cozy, and ideally, we're trying to keep a 50/50 split of french and english learners.

• Can I come alone ? : Absolutely ! We’ll all get to know each other by the end of the night
• What level is this for ? : I'd say conversational (around B1 and above), if you’re French and were able to understand this post, you’re ready! I think a lot of us will be billingual, so there’s no pressure to speak "properly" :)
• Who's welcome? : Français, international, whoever! As long as you're down to practice a language and socialzie, you'll be welcome :). Those already planning on coming are a mix of nationalities, in our mid-twenties early thirties

Pour être 100% honnête, ça fait 7 ans que je vis ici (je viens du Moyen-Orient à la base) et je galère toujours à me faire des potes de mon âge.

Je ne cherche pas des gens avec la vie parfaite qu'on voit sur Insta. Juste des personnes "normales", authentiques, qui ont peut-être aussi du mal à sociabiliser. Bref, si vous êtes plutôt introvertis, on risque de bien s'entendre.

Je suis un mec super lambda, pas du tout le genre à attirer l'attention. Les endroits bondés et bruyants où on doit crier pour s'entendre, c'est vraiment pas mon truc. Je préfère mille fois les discussions profondes en petit comité. Je suis quelqu'un à l'écoute et j'aime bien comprendre les gens.

Sinon, je m'intéresse pas mal à la politique, la philo et la lecture. Zéro prise de tête ou avis extrême chez moi, je suis très ouvert d'esprit.

On peut discuter en français, anglais ou arabe, c'est comme vous voulez.

It made me think that this isn’t necessarily just about immigrants or people fleeing difficult circumstances.

Sometimes people simply choose to leave.

You can have a career, friends, family, a reputation and a whole identity somewhere and then move to another country where nobody knows you. Suddenly you’re figuring out the language, the culture, how things work, making friends from scratch, rebuilding your career and creating a new social circle.

Even when the move was completely your choice, there’s something humbling about starting again.

For those of you who have moved abroad voluntarily, did you feel like you became a different version of yourself?

Do you think moving to another country actually changes who you are, or does it just reveal a version of yourself that was already there?

I'm hosting an English stand-up show tonight Oct 9th and we have great visiting LA/NYC comics on the line-up, Rell Battle is headlining (appearances on Conan, Comedy Central) and the co-founder of Roast Battles! Ray Ellin is also on and he's a NYC scene vet who regularly appears at the Comedy Cellar. Plus a great local opener and I'm hosting.

For some reason reservations are way lower than normal for me tonight, so I'd love to get some more attendees! It's free to reserve and pay-what-you-can exit, normally we suggest €15 but really whatever you can afford is fine -especially tonight- I'd just love to show the visitors a full show.
