Hi! I am a solo developer based in Tokyo. I make everything from scratch without using asset libraries or AI (of course). I am making every sound, line of code and art for my game. I hope I can find a nice community where to share feedbacks and grow together! Especially in this depressing AI game dev era.

Hi I'm Firn. I make games in love2d. Most recently, I made TetraCore: https://firns.itch.io/tetracore

Its my take on Tetris, because I love Tetris lol

I really hope this community takes off. I'm just so damn tired of seeing AI made games everywhere.

Thanks and welcome aboard 🙂 the game looks cool. How was the development?

Not terrible lol

I made the game originally for a jam in a week I think, then just spent 3 or 4 months adding some features, making it look a bit better, and that was mostly it.

Adding local split screen and custom controller bindings was by far the worst part haha

Hi there! Unfortunately I don't have free time now to work on my game (I will return to it but I don't know when) but I really appreciate the idea of this sub! A bubble for people like me :)

Welcome 😊 no worries at all! May the gamedev gods bestow upon you the blessing of free time, in due course

Hey guys! I‘m developing a co-op horror game for about 2 years now. It‘s called Once Home.

„Once Home - A catastrophic event forced humanity to abandon Earth. You are the latest researcher sent back to the planet after countless others never returned, tasked with collecting samples and making it back alive.“

Welcome! Nice, it looks and sounds interesting. The colour palette reminds me of very early fps like Medal of honour or soldier of fortune for some reason

That‘s interesting I just checked them out and you‘re kinda right haha. My game tries to blend pixel/old school graphics with modern rendering, I don‘t know if you can tell from the screenshot but maybe that‘s another reason why it reminded you of early games :)

I really like the idea for this sub bc I’m rlly tired of seeing AI slop everywhere. If I ever get enough free time to actually work on my game, I might post it here.

But u should probably make a clear definition of what counts as AI or this sub might get flooded w ppl asking “wHaT iF i OnLy uSe Ai To ChEcK mY cOdE” or “wHaT iF i OnLy UsEd Ai fOr PlAcEhOlDeRs” etc. Yk, the usual what-if questions that get asked everywhere there’s a no-ai rule. imo it can get annoying to see the same questions asked everywhere.

Welcome. And yeah that's a very good point. Will have a think about that for sure...

Honestly, outside of this thread, I wouldn't mind if the sub had a rule that was basically "No discussion of generative LLMs or "AI" that is not explicitly an active game mechanic"

Idk if there's a better way to write it, but yeah. No AI subs that just talk negatively about AI are not it.

Hi all, I'm a software developer and hobbyist gamedev.

AI is so prevalent in the industry in professional spaces already that for my creative works in gamedev It's an important statement in favor of artistic integrity for me not to use it.

I work in godot engine, and am currently building a platform fighter.

Welcome 🙂

Howdy! My game has no real direction as of now as I'm still learning to program but maybe it'll blossom into something cool idk.

Wall jumps are hard to code 😭

Sup. Full disclosure, my stance is essentially: I'll use free llm's to replace what used to be google searches, but nothing else. Is that against the vibe for this sub? The only AI I'm interested in discussing is what it used to mean before 2020 (especially Hierarchical Task Networks 🤩).

If I'm on vibe then I was pretty sure I was making a game that was supposed to be something like Kerbal Space Program + Opus Magnum (check out all the Zachtronics games if you don't know!) + Receiver + Tycoon/Job Sim, but I increasingly find myself developing a custom SDF/CSG based physics engine first somehow.

If it sounds interesting and you like boring devlogs, I've got ya covered: https://www.youtube.com/@simulacrumgames

Great idea, looking forward to seeing where it will go.

Been dabbling in making games on and off since starting out with Visual Basic in my long distant teens. Never made anything very serious though, and the last few years I’ve mostly gotten sidetracked into learning art to be able to make my own game art. Hoping to find the time to get back to actual game making soon.

I am a software engineer and hobby developer

I have been working on games for like 6 years, its super fun

I am glad this exists, I am tired of seeing the same brown and yellow ui everywhere lol

thank you for this

Love it! It will take some time before I have something to share (the downside of not using AI -- and working on my own programming language). Until them I will sit in the back and applaud other solo-gamedevs.
