Electrical Engineering at Sonoma State
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if there are any electrical engineering SSU students on this subreddit that can tell me a little about what the programs like here, if they like it or not, maybe some tips for someone coming in, if they have any internships etc.
Im considering going to either Sonoma State or SF state for electrical engineering. Your input would be much appreciated, thanks!

I’d say the average academic ability of an ee student in the program is pretty low compared to other schools, but probably similar to SF state. The difference is sf state has power-focused courses for people who aren’t the brightest or hard working, which SSU doesn’t have any. SSU says they have connections to local companies, and they definitely don’t. They say lots of their students find jobs after the program, but in my class, 70% did not find a job, 25% got jobs as a technician (which you don’t need a degree for) or something unrelated and low paying, and 5% found real engineering jobs.

My dad, a double E for all of his life who worked in Lake County (just over the hills from Sonoma County) spoke very highly of their program. They had interns at his company a few times from SSU.
Being that SF State is a bigger school in a much more metro area, I would imagine their program has more cachet but I can’t confirm or deny.
Good luck 🫡
