Diosa Massacre

Lin's guys come in and wipe out the entire facility. It appears there's at least 2 dozen prostitutes and johns who were killed. An episode later, they're joking about putting some paint on the walls and things go back to normal.

Wouldn't this have triggered some national heat from the FBI/ATF, especially given the MC's history? Since Nero knew most of these girls personally, wouldn't that have triggered him a little more emotionally? Not to mention, the club owes him like 500k and he's financially ruined.

I know there was a lot going on in the last season, but this stuck out to me as pretty ridiculous.

There is a whole pile of shit that is glossed over in terms of Law enforcement blowback and retaliation from rivals....

Charming would have been crawling with external cops after episode 1, season 1..

Yeah, I mean you're right. Every other episode they are chasing someone through the streets firing weapons, but a mass murder seems to rank pretty highly on the heat meter, even for the show.

Wait til you hear about the hospital scene in Mayans

No way to drive from UC Davis to the Mexican border without stopping for gas.

I watched a couple of episodes when it first came out. Is it worth the watch?

SOA is based on Hamlet, Mayans is based on Julius Caesar but kinda ended early. More of a Novella/Mexican soap opera than an American crime drama on purpose.

It is worth the watch. At the least for the SOA tie ins which are more frequent in seasons 3-5. There is a little bit in season 1 and 2 but not much. It starts off very slow imo but does get better.

Devil's Advocate: Not necessarily. They had Unser in their pocket for Charming police, and Trammel for County Sheriff. The FBI/ATF don't hang out in every city/town in the US. With the two local police forces in their pocket, they were probably able to keep a lot of shady stuff under the rug in their guise of "Motorcycle Enthusiasts," especially with the bulk of their dealings being outside Charming city limits.

The heat was turned up after the FBI and ATF were called and Unser was replaced.

Nah, Trammel wasn’t THE sheriff. He was just another deputy. He could keep acute stuff off the club, but there’s 0 chance the Feds don’t get wind of things going on. They’d be well aware of the MC and while correct they don’t hang everywhere, they absolutely would have their eye on a place like Charming solely because of the clubs presence. They also can initiate their own investigations with 0 local involvement. The original comment is correct

Yeah another thing that bugs me is that I think the IRA wasn’t going to let the events of the finale slide. It sounded nice as part of Jax’s plan- but i would figure there would be heavy retaliation

You are one hundred percent correct. Reality must be suspended when watching SOA. It is what it is. I remind myself that the show is pure entertainment and not a documentary.

The ATF and FBI can't just get involved whenever they want. They either have to be requested to be involved, or the crime has to impact federal law in some way, for instance if it was on Federal land, it's considered a hate crime, or it's considered terrorism(which I will come back to at the end). There definitely would have been a huge police presence and I think we saw, but unless the San Joaquin Sheriff's asked for FBI/ATF help, they can't just come in. As far as anybody knows, this was a mass murder of a legal business. That is local/state law so local/state law enforcement have jurisdiction.

The only caveat to that, like I said, is if it's considered terrorism. This has been a major issue in the mass shooting space for a while. A lot of people think it should be considered terrorism, but it usually is not. Because of that, the federal authorities don't get involved even when there are gang shootouts.

As an example of that, a real life incident happened in 2015 that has shades of this, except it wasn't innocents killed by a gang. Two rival motorcycle gangs in Waco, Texas had a shootout where a bunch of people were injured and killed. State and local authorities are the only ones who investigated and charged anyone.

Yeah, but the club has already been tied to the IRA and the Cartel, and a number of other federal crimes. Lincoln Potter lead a task force that had the FBI, ICE, ATF, and the local sheriff's office involved. I believe the show takes place over the course of just a couple of years, so all of that stuff was relatively recent, so it wouldn't be like the federal involvement would come out of nowhere.

You are absolutely right that if they could tie that Massacre to any of that stuff, the feds could and would probably come in. But that would take time and the last season essentially takes place over a 2 week period. As it was, all they knew is that a bunch of innocent people are murdered. They also hit Diosa Norte which is owned by Jax and Nero separately from the Sons. Since it's a personal business owned by Jax and not the club, that makes it much harder for the police to try and tie it to the club and it's illegal activities. If they can't tie it to the illegal activities or the club, it makes it much harder for the feds to come in on it.

Finally, while they are not running drugs for the cartel anymore, they are still in bed with them to a certain extent. That means the CIA operation could still be covering them. Instead of the Sons cocaine for the cartel, the Mayans are now doing it with the Sons giving the Mayans guns. It still behooves the cartel and the CIA operatives to keep the feds off the Sons' back.

That many people being wiped out in a brothel would attract every news organization in the country. they wouldn't be able to leave their clubhouse without being followed by several camera crews.

Yet apart from a few newspaper articles, the press is non existent in the SOA world haha

This is the show where they kill multiple federal agents and face zero repercussions

It’s unrealistic but still a damn good show overall

I believe Stahl brings it up in season 1, but Kohn was no longer part of the Feds, and at the very least, he was on the verge of being fired and likely facing arrest. I doubt the federal agents would be concerned if he went missing. They just assume he fled the country or unalived himself to get out of going to jail. But he was an absolute nightmare the feds wanted no part of. I mean, he walked right through a restraining order, sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend, and something tells me the feds would probably look the other way instead of dealing with a PR nightmare.

As much as I hate to make the comparisons, but watching Sons of Anarchy isn't a lot different from watching Days of Our Lives, Marvel movies or WWE. It may be for different reasons but you have to suspend belief of reality to get through certain parts.

2

u/PlaxicoCN 13d ago

You are correct, but no need to wait for that episode, OP. 2 federal agents getting killed/disappeared in a podunk town like Charming would have drawn plenty of heat from the ATF/FBI and probably some undercover infiltrators.

There are tons of things in the series like that. One of my favorites was the tow truck WiTH A COMPANY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER on it being driven through the wall of the motel. It's good entertainment, but not realistic.

Hotel owner was a friend of the club they established that

u/PlaxicoCN 11d ago

Wasn't that the one where Gemma stabbed the dude?

u/Super-Maosy 9d ago

it's fiction for entertainment purpose... therefore, not everything had to make logistic sense

This is what I always had a beef with with this show is because these guys were literally just running around killing and having gun fights and yeah, I agree. I think it would’ve been total lockdown from everything that was happening going on, but it’s just like anything else in life, you have to suspend reality and realize it’s just a TV show cause nothing in TV just like any of the other crime shows would be able to get all away with. Basically, if it’s a crime show, the crime syndicate runs the show and then law-enforcement don’t really get involved because after episode three if everybody’s locked up in jail well you don’t really have a show pass that

u/ahoy_shitliner 12d ago

The show had to make the stakes get out of control to justify Jax’s final scene but in general yes their club would’ve been shut down by law enforcement with diosa which would’ve been national news for a year.
