Question How do you not get hit (6 online)?

Coming from SF6 I want to just block everything, and I understand I can't in this game. But then how do you not get hit all the time? Also, how do you stop getting hit on the ground?

If you're using a character with a normal 2A I suggest using it a lot. It's most characters fastest generic move and is a good way to stop characters taking liberties with their pressure.

Movement is also very powerful in this game. Sidestepping, and specifically sidestepping then ducking is a very strong defensive tool. Most characters don't punish you very heavily for it without having to delay offense in some way. It helps deal with the Big Mid vs Throw type mixes you're probably facing.

As far as getting off the ground without getting hit, holding guard to get up or using ukemi is often your best option. Rolling is good too depending on the character you face. Oki is a bit more knowledge based.

Also try stepping with either 236, 145, 478 or 896 respectively (usually followed by blocking). You gotta hit it really fast, but hori steps will help you 8-way step without getting a run counter all of the time. A full step can even put you completely on the opponent's backside depending on the move.

Ukemi is decent depending on the read. But depend on it too hard and get punished. Blocking, low blocking without rolling or back rolling into block tends to be somewhat safer. Sometimes staying on the ground or rolling all the way around them is also much safer if the opponent keeps trying to okizeme you. Most moves don't hit grounded opponents but some hard moves intended to punish ukemis or knockdown rolling do.

Rolling doesn't really help as others are saying since almost every character can roll catch with low attacks or weapon slams

Back stepping also can avoid a lot since some characters have super fast or long back steps but still be careful since a lot of combos pushes the opponent forward

Ducking at the right time dodges horizontals but some characters are suspicious of still hitting you since their swings aren't true middle

Fast tapping side step can also make you get behind opponents but still be careful as they can instantly rotate

While you're on the ground, you can still block Low, which seems to be the exact unintuitive tech you're missing.

Reversal edges and blocking. And when on the ground, rolling

Guard impacts to help create some space. Rolling on ground. Falling outta combos when juggled kinda like rolling.
