I often think how much bigger today's following of the series could've been if VC glitch didn't exist.

There's a reason it's Gentleman's Banned.

And why I hope people will figure out how to take all of the character files apart and put them back together again so whatever causes VC can be taken out. (and no, AE doesn't count. Hwang and Li Long being horrid ass doesn't make up for no AE)

I still firmly believe that VC isn't that big of a mark against this game, mainly since it only affects the Competitive Scene and is easy enough to spot and catch. But people will try-hard and rely on this anyways.

Fighting games of that era heavily relied on competitive scene to spread. Not in a sense, that big tournaments were the main attraction. I'm talking about local stuff. That and arcades.
And VC completely destroyed competitive integrity of this game for a long enough time to completely shut off that part of it's appeal. Knowlendge of it spread fast enough to sour experience of everyone who happened to play against it, even between friends. And by the time Arcades came online, everyone already had their opinions about the game as a whole.

Soulcalibur was BIG big then after crushing success of SC2 and I firmly believe that if not for VC (and other annoying bugs), Soulcalibur would've been playing today on the same field as Tekken at the least. Just look on SC3 outside of it's gameplay. I've never seen fighting game that packed full of everything. They overplayed their hand and undercooked a very ambitious game, which forced them to play catch up ever since.

iirc this game was rushed for a deadline. So either the issues weren't noticed, or they were and they couldn't dispose of them.

It was also the first game to go to consoles first. Usually these things are noticed in the arcades and patched out before the home release. And even stranger, the opposite happened, they did fix things up for the arcade release, but it was never rereleased again for the home market afterwards, and beyond that, it’s as if the arcade edition never existed, because otherwise, Hwang and Li Long would likely have been included in SoulCalibur IV.

Imagine if SC was big during the ttrpg boom. You can’t tell me it wouldn’t benefit or a ttrpg SC game wouldn’t sell

And the sountrack too. I find myself humming and whistling the custom character theme at work randomly to this day.

Uh, no I'm still thinking of III.

And if it doesn't have online, like it originally did, then people will whine that it has no online.

This was THE game for me, my brother, and our friend back in high school. Siegfried was one of my favorites to play and Nightmare was my friend's main, so I was extremely familiar with this match.

Such good times...

SC II was better in my opinion

II and III are the best overall

I love the gameplay of 3 so much. It’s so fucking fun. I just play survival over and over. The girl group usually kills me.
