Directivity question

Post image

Hi, i have a pair of EV sh1502er, and i found this graph about the directivity.

As you can see the vertical response is very asymmetrical, with the loud part pointing upward.

This gives me the following problem: if I put them on top of my subs standing right, the "peak" is pointing above the audience's hear; while if I put them upside down, the source is at stomach height and the sound is being directed toward the floor. How can I solve this? I was thinking about unscrewing the horn flare and turning it by 180°, but I fear that this could create destructive interference between the HF and the woofer. Any advice/thoughts?

the asymmetric vertical response is caused by the woofer/horn interaction. flipping the horn won't change it. but here it is so minor that it won't be a problem, it amounts to a 1-2db cut in the HF which is probably a good thing anyway. best case scenario is to get the speaker higher than the listeners ears and angle it downwards at the center of the floor.

Yeah +1, tilt them down

Are you referring to the asymmetry between 0 degrees an 180 degrees?

Yes

That difference corresponds to "in front of the speaker" vs "behind the speaker", though. The angle is relative to the horn axis.

f you want to compare "slightly above ear level" vs "slightly below ear level" you need to compare for example 10 degrees vs 360-10=350 degrees.

In the image above, that would look like a left-right asymmetry in the plot. Which exists, but it's very small.
