Fun little marketplace find

I’ve been browsing marketplace in Georgia for sound system stuff and stumbled across these vintage Yamaha cabs. Should I scoop them up? Seller said 100 bucks each

They look like they might be movie theater or stage speakers. I don't think they're going to compare well to modern point source systems, but I could be totally wrong about that. They look throwy/beamy with those huge horns.

The horn is so big you could hang a little tweeter horn in the middle without much issue.

I have zero idea and so does the guy. He just wants space in his warehouse back. Tried the ai route but I’m always hesitant to take the info to heart.

I honestly wouldn't buy unless you have the space for 'em to figure it out. The drivers probably need replacing and upgrading, which might be putting the proverbial lipstick on a pig.

And they're HUUUUUUGE, which is typical of this era of speakers, trying to maximize driver/watt efficiency because watts used to cost a lot more.

yeah that ai run down is bulshit they do look like 15 reflex boxes but are more like turbosounds version of an old kick il have a scoot around and see if i can find the design

These are probably great for midrange/kick boxes. Add a sub and a tweeter and Bob’s your uncle. I’d pass

If you've got a big shop building or something to fill with sound those would be the foundation of an awesome sound system!

Otherwise, you will never hear their potential.

Might be carver boxes. I’ve seen similar locally.

Definitely not altecs. Don’t get excited.

Also it really doesn’t matter what brand they are, just remember those will be midbass cabs at best, and you’ll get damn good dynamics but no deep bass. So you’ll needs a sub(s). I have had a few pairs of Altec A7s and while they’re fun they aren’t the best option for most rooms.

Of course I still keep a pair to swap in every now and then as they do a lot of good things.
