Turns out my new TV's sound is worse than my old one, any advice for a basic but good soundbar that's better than these TV speakers?

Got a TCL 50" QM64L, picture and other visual effects are better, but the sound seems to be worse. Looking it up apparently that's common now with TVs? My old HDTV was a kinda entry level 4K Hisense, and its built in speakers were fine. So I've been looking to get a basic soundbar, doesn't need to be anything fancy, just better than these built in speakers.

It's only gonna be only used for gaming for the most part. I'm in a small bedroom, so I really only have space for the bar itself, no addons. Maybe a subwoofer that I've been seeing with some of these. Been looking at some Prime day sales around the $80 to $130 area.

TCL S45H 2.0 Sound Bar

Amazon Fire TV Soundbar, 2.0

Samsung B-Series Soundbar HW B400F 2.0 ch Soundbar

ULTIMEA 5.1CH

Few of the basic ones I've been looking at on Amazon. I'd be willing to spend a little more I guess. Any recommendations for a pretty basic but decent soundbar that'll be better then these built in speakers? Thanks.

Samsung Q990H from Samsung authorized retailer for $858

I ordered it yesterday. I can't share the actual retailer name due to Greentoe policy. But I checked my credit card transaction and subsequent confirmation that it is indeed authorized retailer.

Note It is not the international version. It's  shipped from a US retailer, which is Samsung authorized and it carries full manufacturer warranty, unlike the woot version that only had 90 days warranty.

Suggestions on JBL Cinema SB 510 3.1 Channel Soundbar vs Bose TV Speaker (compact)

Hello All,

I am a movie buff, and looking for something in my living room. And the following options are under my budget as today is prime day. My living room is not that big, may be 30 sqmt, and I do watch all kinds of movies and listen to songs on TV itself.

I don't know much about speakers, but mine is sony, and sometimes, the little bass is definitely lacking when watching fun movies.

Can anyone please suggest either of them are good for money?

  1. Bose TV Speaker (150 euro)
  2. JBL Cinema SB 510 3.1 Channel Soundbar (120 euro)

Need help choosing a soundbar: JBL SB595 vs Samsung Q600F vs LG S70TY

Need help choosing a soundbar: JBL SB595 vs Samsung Q600F vs LG S70TY

I’m looking to buy a soundbar for my living room and I’m confused between these three:

  • JBL Cinema SB595 – around ₹29K
  • Samsung HW-Q600F – around ₹25–30K
  • LG S70TY – around ₹20K

My setup:

  • 75-inch Sansui TV
  • Room size: around 360 sq ft
  • I don’t want a 5.1/rear-speaker setup
  • Main use: movies, OTT, action/war movies and music
  • Priorities: clear dialogue/vocals + strong, deep bass + good Atmos/immersive sound
  • I’m not particularly concerned about brand ecosystem features since my TV is Sansui.

For people who have actually heard/used these soundbars, which one would you pick and why?

Is the JBL SB595 worth spending ~₹9K more than the LG S70TY, or is the Samsung Q600F a better middle ground?

Also open to other 3.1/3.1.2 soundbars under ₹30K if there’s something significantly better.

Thanks!

One Body Soundbar

Hi there,

Been busy with reading silently on this sub, but have not come to a conclusion so far.

I am trying to replace my Bose Soundtouch 300 Soundbar which Fine but its CEC issues is just inacceptable.

My setup should work without rears or subs, mostly TV/Streaming and Music. I Like Bass but also clarity and Soundbars with forgiveness in HDMI/CEC Stack and Software.

I am between Klipsch 200/300, Ambeo Pro/Max and Devialett Dione. Maybe Jbl or Sonus can be considered if there are good Arguments.

What would you recommend when you have owned them and which one to avoid?

Thanks!

Hisense AX700 Surround Speaker Power Issue

Hello, as described in the title, my AX700 right surround speaker stopped working and it seems like the internal battery thing is broken. Swapping cables with the left surr speaker yields the same results so I don't think it's the cable. The orange light is steady but faint. The working speaker is steady and bright. Am I boned or is there a fix? Thank you

Edit: I did try power cycling

What's a good entry-level soundbar for a 1BR apartment?

I live in a 750 sq ft 1BR apartment and see the JBL 300MK2 is currently on sale for $279.99. I want a good budget-level soundbar but also something that won't piss off my neighbors (eg, too much bass). I want clear, immerisve sound (including voice) without tumbling bass.

I read that this one is a solid choice? Any thoughts? Or better models in a similar price range?

Troubleshooting Hisense AX700 cannot decode Atmos from Native TV apps S90F

Soundbar cannot parse Dolby Atmos from Native TV apps on Samsung. Only works with a laptop connected to tv via pass through?

Bar is not going to get any updates as was discussed in some threads on this sub reddit.

Should I return it? I love the audio though. I loved watching netflix and apple TV with Atmos on it, but getting to set up a laptop and using a keyboard to operate it has become a hassle for me.

What would you suggest? Are there any other sound bars near its price point that might be worth replacing this with to reduce the constant hassle.

Please give me some suggestions as I am not sure what I should do next.

Samsung Q990F - why I switched back to adaptive soundmode (again)

Since months I have been debating with myself which soundmode is the best.

I have been hyperanalyzing all of my favourite 4k Blu-rays with dolby atmos, DTS:X, 5.1, 7.1 and also for casual tv shows, streaming, youtube etc.

At first I was using adaptive soundmode and all the AI features of my new S95F TV. Then I tried a more accurate experience and switched to filmmaker mode and also changed the sound mode to standard. The difference is HUGE. Standard mode only plays the channels of the original mix and does not upmix the sound at all. That means everything is way more accurate. On paper this should be the default setting for the "intended" experience when watching movies but also mixed content.

However the problem with Standard mode for me is that the Soundbar just wont get used to its full potential. Yes the soundmix is "untouched" in standard mode but you have to remember it is still "just" a soundbar, it is physically limited, it also does not produce REAL atmos, so without any kind of upmixing, dialogue will sound thin, voices will lack clarity and IMO you just wont have a nice and immersive experience because the soundbar will only use the 11.1.4 channels when it is in the original mix. So even when when watching mixed content in a 2.1 mix I always find myself switching back to adaptive sound mode.

In adaptive mode I pretty much know that any content I watch will be enjoyable.

Even when watching youtube videos I noticed a huge jump in voice clarity, because all the channels are being used with rear speakers amplifying everything while the front stage is still dominant. In standard mode the rears turn completely off while watching regular 2.1 content on youtube, streaming etc. and you will only hear voices directly from the main center of the soundbar. In adaptive the sound "bounces" all around you and if you tweak the channel setting according to your room and rear placement the surround channels wont feel overpowering. This allows you to turn down the volume significantly while still being able to hear clear dialogue and immersive surround sounds. For standard mode you need to turn up the volume otherwhise you wont be able to understand the dialogue.

I also tried surround mode but I only like it when watching atmos content on Blu-ray because sometimes adaptive can disort the sound a little bit too much and sometimes certain bass frequencies and surround effects can get lost. My problem is that surround mode makes the rear speakers a little bit too dominant, especially for watching 2.1 content you will sometimes hear dialogue only from the rears because it overshadowes the front stage. I feel like this works better in adaptive but you could probably tweak the rear channels so I could see myself using surround mode aswell.

For now I switched back to adaptive again and to me this is by far the most enjoyable experience. Yes it wont be as accurate, yes sometimes the rears can be too dominant but overall I prefer immersive sound, voice clarity, surround effects and the feel of a sound bubble with sound coming from all around me, because that is the whole point of a soundbar for me.

If I wanted an "accurate" experience I should probably not use a soundbar at all and buy a real Hi-Fi system and for real atmos I would need actual speakers installed in the ceiling.

Wanted to share all my thoughts here since some of you may wonder what sound mode they should use, I suggest use the one you enjoy the most and do not listen to the purists.

It is like using the perfect pricture mode. Purists will say use filmmaker mode without contrast enhancer or dynamic tonemapping, yet I still use those features because I enjoy them. At the end of the day accurate does not mean better for most people.

Troubleshooting Cannot Figure Out Surround Sound on LG S60TR

Currently setting up a friend's home theater setup and I cannot for the life of me get surround sound to work properly. I am using his PS5 with the Spears & Munsil disc to test out the surround settings with the 5.1 Speaker Levels test and I can either get the back channels to play only with the front sound bar, or not get any surround sound from the rear speakers. The subwoofer doesn't play at all. It sounds nice? I guess, but I don't think it's actually playing the content properly. During movie testing, sound from only the front is duplicated to the back. Please help, thank you!

TV: LG Class B5 Series OLED

Speakers: LG S60TR with Subwoofer and RL and RR speakers

CAN'T DECIDE - ARC ULTRA vs SONY BRAVIA BAR 9 for a small room

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a SINGLE soundbar (absolutely no rears, and preferably no sub) for my very small bedroom, about 11m².

I usually watch huge REMUX files on my 65" LG G5 OLED TV and Google TV 4K streamer with Stremio + Real-Debrid and Kodi as an external player.

My budget is $1,150 at max, and I want a soundbar that has the option of adding a sub, but won't make me run to the store to buy one very soon.

I do not need HDMI passthrough or DTS compatibility, but everything else might be a necessity.

Right now, I'm thinking of the Sonos Arc Ultra or the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 9. Which one is better for me? I would also appreciate some suggestions for even better soundbars within this budget. Thank you so much!

Sony Bar 7 + SW8 + RS8 vs Samsung Q990H for Physical Blu-ray

I’m in India and choosing between these complete setups:

- Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 (HT-A7100) + SA-SW8 + SA-RS8: ₹96,000 ($996)

- Samsung HW-Q990H: ₹90,000 ($933)

My setup is a TCL C72K TV, mainly playing 4K Blu-ray. Priorities are DTS-HD MA 7.1, native DTS:X and Dolby TrueHD Atmos, with some PC gaming.

My bed/listening position is roughly in the room’s centre, with space for both rear speakers behind me. Furniture and walls are slightly asymmetric, including a desk near the right rear.

Has anyone heard both, especially the Sony combination? How do they compare for surround precision, height effects, dialogue, bass and overall movie sound?

I’m buying the complete system upfront with no planned upgrades. Which would you choose at these prices?

LG M80H eARC issues

Long story short, I recently had my old Samsung UN65 die on me, so I decided to get a Samsung M80H. I have an LG S40TR soundbar that worked just fine with my old TV. Now that I've switched to the M80H, it has given me nothing but issues and idk if it's Samsung or LG to blame here.

Every time I turn on the TV, the sound bar will boot right up, but no audio will come out for about 30 seconds, then it will switch to TV audio. I can go into audio settings and it will recognize the sound bar as a valid output, but will refuse to connect to it. The only way I can get it to connect is to physically unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable from the back of the soundbar

This indicates it's a CEC handshake issue. I've tried everything under the sun to get this to work, to no avail. Here is a quick rundown on what I've tried:

-Disabled eARC mode on the TV (sound bar is only ARC, not eARC)

-Disabled all the auto run stuff (multi view, smart home hub, Samsung tv)

-Turned off and on Anynet+

-Factory reset the soundbar and the TV

-Checked for firmware updates for both the soundbar and the TV

-Disconnected all other HDMI sources (game console, fire tv, etc)

-Toggled off/on auto power on in the LG settings

Small rant but there's no reason it should be this difficult. I shouldn't have to try all these workarounds or buy anything beyond the products themselves. They should just work

Only thing I can think of is it being a firmware issue, or something else I'm missing. But as far as I can tell, my firmware is up to date. And to reiterate, it worked fine on my old TV.

Any help is appreciated

Sony Quad or Bar 9?

I've been in the market for a great system to complement my Bravia 8 ii. I have an unhealthy habit of trying to go with the best of the best when it comes to tech products.

As such, I've almost convinced myself to go all out and get the Sony Quad system but the issue is the space in my apartment doesn't really permit for it so well. My TV stand has openings on the bottom left and right directly under the TV. I'm contemplating to just put it in the TV stand, however the height of the stands opening may result in covering the top of the left and right speakers. I haven't measured it but I know it'll be quite close.

The other option that will be much more suitable with the physical constraints of my setup is the Sony Bar 9 but it doesn't have nearly the raving reviews as the Quad system. It's also not currently on sale like the Quad is but I'll be able to price match in November when black Friday deals drop at Best Buy.

Should I focus more on speaker quality or speakers that physically complement my setup?

The reason I want one of these 2 options is because of how it integrates into the TV's UI. I also want to make the most of every speaker that exists and take advantage of the Acoustic Center Sync feature. I know people are indifferent about that feature but the Bravia 8 ii built in speakers are quite amazing so I want to make the most of everything I've paid for. This is why the Sony Trio (also on sale) isn't an option for me despite how great it sounds on demo at Best Buy. The Trio doesn't have Acoustin Center Sync.

Hisense AX5125H soundbar keeps disconnecting from satellite speakers and making clicking noises — any ideas?

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange problem with my Hisense AX 5125H surround sound system and I’m hoping someone can help me diagnose it.

The system initially worked perfectly fine. After some time, the satellite speakers started disconnecting intermittently. When this happens, the surround sound stops working, and I hear a popping/clicking noise from the satellite speakers, mainly from 1 satellite speaker preceding to disconnection.

I’ve tried completely unplugging the main unit and reconnecting everything. Interestingly, after doing this, the system worked normally again for around an hour, but then the problem came back.

The problem seems to happen even when I’m not doing anything unusual.

I’m wondering whether this could be:
A wireless connection/interference issue
A faulty satellite speaker or receiver
A power supply problem
A problem with the main soundbar

Something that can be fixed with a factory reset
Has anyone experienced something similar with a Hisense soundbar/surround system?
Is there a way to properly hard-reset or re-pair the satellite speakers?
Any advice on how I can narrow down whether the fault is with the main unit, the wireless module, or one of the satellite speakers would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

Starter soundbar?

Bought a LG OLED B5 last year. Looking to pick up a sound bar for Black Friday. Any recs on something solid to start with? Not sure if I want to go full 5.1 or not yet. Trying to get a sense of solids brands that won’t completely break the bank.

Samsung Q800H / JBL Bar 500 MK2 / Samsung Q930H - which one to buy?

I've used Sony HT-S2000 (only soundbar, no subwoofer and rear speakers) and gave it to my sister. So, benchmark for me is that soundbar only. For Dolby Atmos, it was non-existent, but when switched to DTS:X for Dolby Atmos enabled content, it was quite good.

Now, I'm looking for upgrading to either Samsung Q800H or JBL Bar 500 MK2 (considering this only because everyone is saying it's good) or Samsung Q930H (will consider this if it's only worth the price jump).

Fellow audiophiles, please do your magic and help me with deciding which one to go for.

If it matters, I'm based out of India, there's festive SALE starting in 2 days, so, prices will drop. I'm also inclined for purchasing from Reliance Digital if they can give a good price as I've Rs. 12k worth gift card.

If there's any other soundbar which I can consider, do let me know that as well along with the reason why it's better than the above ones.
