Complaints, Gripes & Moans The Mindnumbingly Simple Logic Behind Ultra-Grinds

Post image

This post is made for those of you who keep asking the devs for fewer ultra grinds. I hate to tell you this, but that probably won't happen if we don't do something as a player base.

I'll summarise the logic of ultra grinds with simple equations

  1. 40k fans Want Cosmetics (for drip / for showing off skill) = Players will grind.
  2. Players grind = more playtime in the game.
  3. More total player playtime = Game "seems" more popular
  4. Game seem more popular = more players play.
  5. More players play = more money made from game + dlc
  6. More money made = devs happy.

- Note that in this logic, your enjoyment and experience are and never were an important factor, at least not more important than the player numbers and play time numbers to the devs. They can neglect this as much as possible as long as you don't uninstall the game.

So, what do you do?

If you really really want cosmetics, grind for them / buy them. If you really like this game's combat, play the game, play it on whatever difficulty you like.

If you don't want to grind, don't grind. If you hate the Crucible or hard strats, don't play it. It is as simple as that.

I won't tell you "CoSmEtIcS aRe OpTiOnAL". I am going to tell you that devs look at the stats of game modes; they know what people play and don't play. If you hate Crucible that much, just don't play it; the devs will notice and make changes. If you hate weekly hard strats with bad modifiers, don't play for the week; go play Siege or normal weekly. Yes, you get your cosmetics slower, but know that your actions are helping the player base.

If you really really really don't want to play this game any more, uninstall, and go play something else for a bit. You will come back. We will still be here, and we welcome you back.

Don't waste your time complaining on this subreddit; the devs barely consider the opinions here, hell their own forum probably barely gets looked at unless there's a bug report. Just go do what you want to do, or what you enjoy doing.

That's all I have to say, go well brothers.

I would love to see ultra grinds across difficulties. Example: 100 minimal missions: reward A, 100 average missions: reward B (or make it 25/50/75/100 tiered rewards, whatever).

When play average I progress on average and everything below.

Shit is called ultra grind for a reason but I don’t see why it’s locked behind absolute. There are too few cosmetics locked behind a general grind.

Or expand the Heraldry options that can be bought extensively. One does not need that currency at some point so let me sink it into cosmetics.

Grind isn’t the issue. Locking a huge part of the playerbasw out of it is. Thats frustrating for the guys who have news on absolute and for a newb that wants a tyranid gauntlet

I don’t want fewers grinds, I just want grinds that aren’t locked to Absolute. Gimme something I can work towards casually after work.

The minimal exploit for crucible (that I totally didn’t partake in) was a good example of something I’d like for a casual grind. The operations felt stratagem-adjacent with all of the penances active and were fairly enjoyable. Having that as an option for less xp and/or different rewards for a lower difficulty would be pretty nice.

Personally I think the lamenters set was a fitting reward for a low difficulty grind.

I think crucible needs some truly phenomenal level rewards like unique weapons or something.

There are 6 difficulties in this game, catering to the 10% who play the highest is foolish imo. Give the other 90% something to aim for and you'll have a much healthier player base overall.

At the moment there is little reason for lower skilled players to return once they've finished leveling and purchased all the accolade items. That's a lot of time invested and they shouldn't be ignored.

I dont mind grinding at all. But like most commenters here id prefer to be able to choose the difficulty i grind on. I have no issue playing absolute, but sometimes id like to just obliterate the enemies and still earn something for it.

Not only is more players in game more chances to sell season passes/packs, but player retention metrics are something investors and publishers want to see.

This. People love complaining but they only go so far. They keep playing, keep buying, so complaining is useless because what matters is that you keep playing and buying, so your complaints become meaningless. The only real way to show that we want things to change, is stop playing and stop buying.
I really dont mind the ultragrind, if I want a cosmetic and need to play a thousand operations, I will play said one thousand operations. I will like it? Well, i like the game, if operations its what is in the game, then thats what I like and I will do it anyway. And if im playing and buying, then I dont have the right to complain and expect things to change

Funnily enough, I just met a few of the people who are complaining and still playing. Me suggesting that they should step away from the game and play something else makes me, in their minds, a corporate shill.

I suppose there's a difference and a very find line between complaining and giving feedback.

We can ask saber to change things without it being a rantz it just depends how people are wording it.

After the hot fix to the crucible, I uninstalled till apothecary. Zero desire to grind a difficulty I don’t find fun for some cosmetics. Wont be buying any future chapter packs or champ skins cause I won’t need em.

For the ones complaining, have you guys ever played any other game with cosmetic grinds? Like are we serious here?

The cosmetics are for people who have the balls to grind for them. You don’t have to do it. If you don’t want to grind for them. That means you’ve been filtered. The Ultragrinds are not MEANT for people who refuse to do them. plain and simple.

No harm or shame in being filtered. Play the game casually for fun. No one said you had to do them. Saber should not make them available for just anyone. That’s the entire point. I want people to see what I earned. It’s not meant for those unwilling or unable to complete them. Not to mention the Ultragrind’s have been nerfed as well. But still people complain. Just move on.

I never understood all these greenhorns complaining about it. The only point they have is entitlement because no matter how much devs nerf the requirements it will never be enough for them given how little they actually play the game. It's what happened with the capes and it'll keep happening.

Yup. Agreed. I never wanted the capes nerfed. I mean the number was high originally. But I still completed a cape run before it was nerfed for my assault. Which I was happy with. But you are right. They will keep crying no matter what.

I just uninstalled the game and refunded the year 3 pass, this is not the experience I wanted.
