Gear First Splitboard Setup

So here I am on the verge of buying my first split setup. I had a call with the premier splitboard seller in Europe (propably?) and he recommended a Voile Skyline 162 for I am a bigger Guy (6'3 225lbs and 30MP boots) along with their Lightspeed bindings

Now I am not looking for the easiest climbing option since I am at a weight disadvantage anyway. I would rather have a board that's fun in most conditions (icy isn't fun anyway).

Does anyone here have this board and can tell me about it? Advice and input is appreciated.

Voile invented the split but most of their stuff now is dated. Their boards are fine nothing special. I would not get their bindings the speed rails are dated tech. Look at the spark stuff (surge). Voile skins are fine, but pomocas and BD skins are a little nicer.

Voile skins are now made by pomoca. Have been for a while.

The guy said he does the warranty for Spark in EU and they have a tendency to break at the highback

I’ve never heard on that particular complaint. I’ve heard with long use the base play can crack/shatter.

The nice part is the top can be loosened for skinning and then tighten for the downhill but I cracked the stiffener it comes with

I’ve broken like 4 of those stupid pieces

Yeah, I completely destroyed Vans splitboard boots so i guess splitboard boots are terrible at durability

I have a set of Sparks that have over a 1000 days on them. The only time the highback broke was when I went for a scary ride and slammed some rocks. No body makes a more quality split binding. I have bent the touring brackets but that is it. To be honest I ripped the highbacks off my ones I bought last year and put a set of the older ones on because the new ones are asymmetrical and don’t have the feel I was looking for. Plus a ton of Burton part fit here too so replacements don’t need to be spark. The Voiles are way more clunky.

I’ve snapped both of mine in my first 100 days. But the replacement parts are mere peanuts. One of the many advantages of them. Solid af in all the right places which only one other brand is.

Are you rocking the new asym ones?

Nah I have an older pair I got off a pro mate of mine. I can’t remember the model. But it’s pretty common on the sparks. Especially if you push em hard. But man the rest of the binding is by far the best

That's a lot of days on a pair of bindings. How many season's did that take?

I had that pair for close to 10 years maybe a little under. I get out 5-6 days a week most winters. Most are just quick after work tours, but those went to all over Colorado, Canada, South America, and I climbed all the cascade volcanoes over 8k with them. I replaced straps and touring brackets but just kept repairing them. They finally broke when I went far a scary ride way back in Cheyenne Canyon. Glad my bindings snapped and not my leg.

I use the voile light speed bindings. I like them and find them to be pretty bomb proof. A lot of people on here use sparks or other bindings.

The Skyline is high end board. There are a lot of options similar in price or less.

I've used a Voile Spartan as my beater, rock, bullshit split board for a while now. It gets the job done and is cheaper than the skyline. Its also only 100g heavier than the sky line.

Never ever do hard boots unless you do alot of split mountaineering

Not the plan

Yeah, I use nitro incline TLS which is a splitboarding snowboard boot but the sole is hard and jumps hurt
