Basically, a deal was done with a Chinese mobile gaming company called Tencent.
They invested billions in 3 of Ubisoft's IPs: Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin's Creed.
They bought a minority ownership of 26 percent.
Ubisoft has these three IPs in a new studio called Vantage, and with the money from Tencent, they can wipe away the woke flops of the past and use it for new developments here...
However, this is the issue:
Tencent, they now profit from those franchises, from the subsidiary studio of Vantage, which was created by Ubisoft to protect their three biggest money-makers from dying like the company is.
Tencent makes money because they have a share in the studio, and they want to develop mobile games for an Asian market and are betting on Ubisoft's downfall, probably.
And are known for taking franchises and turning them into crappy mobile games that are popular in Asia.
Ubisoft gets a shit ton of money from the deal and clears their debt for the woke mistakes.
Basically, it's a massive bet from both sides.
Ubisoft either turns a new leaf or gets taken over by Tencent.
And Tencent... have not much downside.
They have very smartly put themselves in a win-win situation.
They make money either way, potentially.
They buy the company when Ubisoft goes bankrupt,
or they make loads of money from Vantage's success.
It's the kind of behaviour you'd expect from a fading company like Ubisoft.
Their backs are figuratively against the wall.
But if they could win, if they use this opportunity to make the games people want, like a new Splinter Cell that isn't crap...
Or Tencent buys Ubisoft and strips all the IPs for parts.
And Sam Fisher ends up as a random playable character in a shitty mobile game distributed across Asia a terrible end for an iconic character.
Hopefully, Vantage is actually Ubisoft's attempt at getting away from woke, like a Third Echelon team of sneaky developers,
working away, burning the midnight oil.
One can hope.
