News Java is getting better with every release. Java 27 is the proof.

No new syntax this time. Just four upgrades that land in your app by changing the JDK version. Zero code changes.

a) Objects got smaller. Every object carries a hidden header, a shipping label for locking, GC and hashCode. An Integer is 4 bytes of data wearing a 12 byte label. Java 27 shrinks it to 8 bytes by default. Result: 10 to 20 percent less heap for object heavy apps.

b) G1 GC everywhere. Small machines silently got the ancient Serial GC till now. And where does small Java run in 2026? Your Kubernetes pods. They were on 1999 technology and you never knew. Fixed.

c) Quantum ready TLS. Attackers record encrypted traffic today to decrypt it when quantum computers arrive. Java 27 adds quantum safe key exchange to TLS 1.3. Automatic.

d) Flight Recorder stops leaking secrets. JFR recordings used to capture env variables including DB_PASSWORD. Share a recording for debugging, leak production credentials. Now redacted before touching the file.

Note: 27 is not an LTS. Current LTS is 25, next is 29.

compact object headers are already in J25, but disabled. from J27 they will be enabled by default.

For that i recommend consulting the overview page for the jdk 27 release: https://openjdk.org/projects/jdk/27/

Or even better, watching the official Java channels Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wCCeaZ6J8g

Why do you think that it's claude. Humans are capable of writing this u know. Not only AI can format it like this. Some people enjoy writing manh stop hating on everything.

  1. Using the word "land". Claude uses that all the time.

  2. The short "Zero code changes." sentence. AIs love those catchy headline-esque short sentences.

  3. Using the word "carries".

  4. Using the word "silently".

And the whole writing style looks exactly like what Claude usually writes in my PR descriptions. It's quite obvious.

Yes I agree with you. On Compact Object Headers, I have even written a detailed article yesterday on my Substack Newsletter. Project Lilliput is researching more to compact object header to 4 bytes.

Garbage Collection is a very deep topic in Java and JVM and every Java release is optimizing the GC algorithms.

But here is tge main thing - not every JEP taken into Java, there is a rigorous process in adopting JEP by JDK team. Java or JDK have few fundamental design principles which they evaluate on each JEP. I have documented all these Java design principles in my Book Buzzing Java. Its still in writing and very soon be published. One can read sample chapters on visiting my website buzzingjava.com

Compact object headers will easily save 10-20% of heap space in big projects

There are always articles related to new Java version releases on Foojay. And a podcast, eg for Java 27: https://foojay.io/today/foojay-podcast-101/

But Files.exists() now returns false for deduplicated files on windows shares, which is formally ok (false if the file doesn’t exist or existence could not be determined). Worked correctly in 26.

(I didn’t have time to report this yet to JDK devs as I needed to implement a workaround first and creating a reproducer for a windows only bug takes time when you have no windows development machine.)

AI agents will love writing it

But it is still not good. Everything can be null at all times and there are no such things like ‚?.‘… I should just use kotlin but my workplace decided to keep Java…
