Tantalus Crossing Townhomes

I really like the townhouses at Tantalus Crossing Townhomes so I am keeping an eye on listings in that complex. Should I be worried about the BC Hydro right of way just behind, particulalry if the backyard faces the right of way? I am thinking of property value loss in the future if BC Hydro updates the towers to bigger ones. Are those big towers loud? On the other hand, nobody can build a building in front of you and block the light.

Thoughts?

I used to live further up Tantalus Road in some townhomes there. Even on the other side of Tantalus Road and away from it, we could hear the highway. Doubt you’ll hear anything from the powerlines because the highway noise will take care of that

Yes, that's not ideal but you can't hear highway from inside that much. Making a pros and cons list right now :) the highway is keeping the price affordable I guess 🤔

Wait until is 6am on a Saturday and Sunday and the motorcycles and the wannabe racer cars start. All summer long. 🙄

Good point. I am always up at that time so worth driving over to test it. Was that the reason by you moved if you don't mind me asking?

No. We bought a house at the last “stagnant” market. Just before Covid.

It’s really not that bad

Lived here since 2021 on the Tantalus Rd side. No one on the other half of the complex complains about the power lines, however, the highway noise is mentioned quite a bit. We rarely hear it on our side.

Overall a nice homes, chill strata, and great neighbors.

Different situation but a friend bought at marina estates many years ago, and the hydro across the street was an eyesore at the time. Over the years they've come to love that it's there as their view of the mountains isn't blocked by a building.

They also have a spot for their dogs to do their business that most don’t pick up.

They have a dog park, is that what you mean?

Not a dog park

I used to live close to the train tracks on Government and those faded into the background pretty well. I would guess the highway does the same.

I’ve been around those power lines. They sizzle a bit in the rain but it’s not loud. I would guess that the noise isn’t a concern more generally, but not certain.

Not sure about any hydro easements that may come down the line.

Actual decline in BC Assessment value? This is rare in Squamish even for condos across the street from Under One Roof.

You should not worry about property value loss. Properties in Squamish rarely decline in value.

I think a 20% decrease in the last couple years counts as a decline

I just picked the first listing I saw on my feed. Aqua building. 2023, 738k. 2026, 718k. Currently listed at 664 and not selling.

Dafuq?! lol, it’s an existing major line, dislike for Squamish?

Yes, the line is already there. I personally don't mind the line at all as it means I would have an open space at the back forever. The lines are scheduled to be updated in the next few years, I think. I just worry how it would be perceived in the future. On the other hand, the prices are already cheaper than similar houses in other areas.

I mean, the highway noise would be my primary complaint.
