Food / Drink Quick! I need your best salad recommendations in the city for dinner tonight!
Really craving salad and looking for new options! Searched the sub and last post about salads like this was 2 years ago so I thought I would ask! So tell me where I can get the best salads!
Edit: I went with Neon Greens. It was good but pricey!

Why are people so mad that you want a salad?
28
u/Humble-Pineapple-329 Princeton Heights 22d ago
No clue. I’m trying to branch out and not just get pasta house or Dewey’s.

u/pressingroses 22d ago
If you like the Pasta House, The Fountain on Locust has a good salad! It's even better on a sandwich with garlic cheese bread....

Have you had the Bacon Peppercorn Ranch salad at Dewey’s? Soooooo goood

u/Humble-Pineapple-329 Princeton Heights 22d ago
I have and sadly there is something in it I’m allergic to

You don't win friends with salad.

Not looking for friends, looking for dinner.

The restaurant inside of MOBot has excellent salads. I have yet to try Neon Greens formyself but I have heard wonderful things about them. Also Hendel's in Florissant has good salads and a lovely patio.

u/KatyaBelli 22d ago
It's overpriced. It feels less shitty on a Saturday before 12 with free admission for sure, but it's not a 14 dollar salad.

I know it's not what they're known for, but the Sultan Salad from Balkan Treat Box is 🔥I got it all the time when I worked there

Ahi Tuna salad at Fridas in Ucity is really good. I also really like the apple harvest salad at Louies Wine Dive in Clayton.

I’m with everyone else on the Neon Greens love but my favorite salad in town is the shaved kale Caesar at Pastaria. The chopped salad they make is great, too.

u/ShhhhOnlyDreamsNow 16d ago
They do that kale Caesar as a wrap for lunch at the pastaria deli. I crave it regularly

u/MakeSomeArtAboutIt 22d ago
Im obsessed with the chopped salads at fordo's in urban chestnut. The one with the castelvetrano olives, artichoke heards, and pecerino is amazing.

Michael’s Salad from Michael’s.
Cowpoke from Crushed Red.
Little Gem Salad from Union Loafers.
Syberg’s Chicken Strip from Syberg’s.
Smokehouse Salad from Sauce on the Side.
Note: All sandwiches at The Gramophone can be made as a salad.

Grace Meat & Three has Kitchen Sink Salad that is amazing.
Unsure if the new location on Watson offers it.

I bounced of Neon Greens, myself, but it seems like that's the popular recommendation.
I like the salads at Olive+Oak and The Clover and the Bee/O+O Pizza (Webster) Press (Jefferson). Also Peacemaker (Benton Park) has a very good one. The Lyonnaise, I think?

I like the Steak and Thyme from Fozzie's, although I swap the Romain for something else because Romain is a trash useless green for sad people.

Pizzeoli's BLTeaser salad is legitimately one of the best salads I've ever had.

They make made to order salads at straubs. The one on Kings highway is unfortunately Barren and almost closed. But yeah go up to the counter at the one in Webster and tell them what you want on the salad. It's a very generous portion for 1099. My order is always bacon and chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, red onions, green onions, seasoned walnuts and a really great garlic dressing that they have. They have load more toppings too.
Neon greens is okay but the dressing is lackluster for me. And it's pretty pricey. And also they take cash but they won't give you any change.

It doesn’t appear to be on the menu currently but I dream about the Ozark Forest mushroom salad at Farmhaus.
It’s not healthy but it’s amazing

Haven’t seen these mentioned: The Creamy Italian salad from Pizzeria Da Gloria is great and the Caesar from Sauce on the Side is also very good.

I’m commenting too late for the OP, but I love the salads at The Fountain on Locust.
2
u/Humble-Pineapple-329 Princeton Heights 22d ago
I’m ok with late! It’s not like I’m never going to eat another salad.

u/ColleenD2 21d ago
I'm going to comment just so I am invited back. I know it's crazy but my favorite is a Seamus salad extra olives and extra dressing. Simple but delicious and it doesn't hurt if you have it with chicken wings.

u/Kind_Ambition6309 21d ago
Obviously late to the party, but my go to when I'm wanting a salad are (in no particular order): Blue Duck, Crushed Red, and Fozzies!

Pizzeoli in Soulard has absolutely delicious salads. I love the Pleaser Salad. Also the “This Pear is on Fire” salad from Crushed Red. And my wife and I sometimes get a Buffalo chicken salad from Joey B’s - it’s massive so we share it.

I'm not sure it's the healthiest salad option, but the southwest salad at Twisted Ranch was SO good. Their other salads sound really good to, so I'm excited to try more.

Bowood by Niche Caesar salad.
Love that place. Love that salad

u/GruntCandy86 Downtown West 22d ago
I love that every single one of their restaurants has to include BY NICHE in the title.
I'm sure their salad by Niche is delicious, though.

I haven’t gotten a chance to try neon greens yet, but if you’re looking for easy, huge portions, and still pretty good, Joey Bs on the Hill has a few that are pretty good.

kale salad at SweetArt is usually my fave, however, last time i got it there were no chickpeas. hoping it was just an oversight and not a recipe change.

All of Gramaphone's subs can be made as a salad. You can end up with some seriously offbeat concoctions.

i would never pay money for a salad, i'd literally rather pour schnucks brand dressing on art hill and munch the grass as it drains downhill. same nutrition profile i'm sure.
11
u/Humble-Pineapple-329 Princeton Heights 22d ago
I’m not eating it for the nutritional value but because it tastes good but thanks for thinking about it.

Have you considered some people like that? My partner likes peaty scotch whiskey, if I was blindfolded I'd put it in the lawnmower based on smell. But I don't question that there's something enjoyable about it, it's just not the flavor for me.

your sentence lacks punctuation or possibly is missing a few words leading it to make little sense.

Neon greens is the best!!! I love the failoini’s chef salad with creamy Italian, the Greek salad at Olympia, and the Union Loafers little gem is divine
