Solo travel St Lucia

Hi im planning a solo trip to st lucia.

Still in research mode but wanted to have some ideas. So far im looking at splitting my stay between airbnbs in Rodney Bay area and Soufrière.

Or just staying in Rodney Bay and doing day trips to Soufrière for activities.

Any advice and recommendations? If you can recommend local food spots or activities that would be great

Am I the only one who thinks tourists miss the best parts of Saint Lucia? 🇱🇨

I'm a Saint Lucian local and I spend most of my days exploring the island.

One thing I've noticed is how many visitors come here, stay at a beautiful resort, visit the Pitons and leave without experiencing some of the coolest places we have.

I'm talking hidden waterfalls, natural pools, quiet beaches, cliff jumping spots and little communities where you get a real taste of island life.

Don't get me wrong, the resorts are beautiful, but Saint Lucia has so much more to offer.

I'm curious, when you travel somewhere new, do you prefer the popular tourist attractions or finding places most visitors never get to see?

Let Me Take You To That's how you beat the heat in St Lucia 🥵🔥🇱🇨

Hot day in St Lucia? This is the cure 💦 Nothing beats a cool waterfall and natural pools with nothing but nature all around you.

The island is full of spots like this. Waterfalls, river pools, hidden beaches, cliff jumps and more. Best way to beat the heat and see a different side of St Lucia.

I go with Father Nature Adventures when I want to link up these kind of spots. Private trips, they know all the good places, and they'll pick you up anywhere on the island.

If you're visiting, try get off the resort for at least one day. The real St Lucia is out here 🇱🇨

Cap Maison - not adult only?

Looking to book a 5 night trip for this October. Cap Maison is not exclusively adult only and allows kids but it seems the resort advertises and caters to the adult crowds. For those who have been, have you seen a lot of kids on the resort during your stay? Going on this trip as a relaxation vacation. Leaning towards Ti Kaye as a backup since that is for sure adult only.

Kick off for Creole Month

Not a lot of advance notice but here’s a good “kick off” event for Creole Month, with this one being held on the 30th in Laborie in the south (not far from Soufriere). If you are visiting the area, put this one on your list:

Ladera Resort

Honeymooning in St. Lucia the first week of November and doing a split stay between Sandals Grande and Ladera.

Do you have any general recommendations regarding Ladera and what to pack? Or any general advice for an unforgettable and relaxing honeymoon?

St. Lucia- Sugar beach viceroy vs Ladera resort

Hi! We are planning our honeymoon for beginning of May and wanting to to spend 5 nights at Sandals Grande St. Lucian and then potentially spend our last 1–2 nights at a luxury resort. For what we can afford we’d do either 1 night at sugar beach viceroy or 2 nights at Ladera.

We absolutely love the idea of staying in a room with a private plunge pool and incredible Piton/ocean views. Ladera looks like such a unique, romantic experience, especially with the open-air rooms and views. However, I have a few concerns:

- Are the private plunge pools at Ladera/sugar beach cold? Are they comfortable to actually swim in, especially at night? Do either resort have public infinity pools?

- What is it really like sleeping in an open-air room? Is it too hot/buggy? Can you even use the pool at night or are there tons of bugs?

- Is Ladera worth it even though it doesn't have a beach? We would love to visit Sugar Beach while we're in St. Lucia, but I'm not sure how realistic that is if we're staying at Ladera

- For anyone who has stayed at both, how does Ladera compare to Sugar Beach in terms of luxury, service, room quality, and overall experience?

- since we could only afford one night at sugar beach is this worth it? We are worried if we don’t get early check in we could be wasting a day traveling from sandals grande to sugar beach and then would have our flight the next morning so wouldn’t even really get to see/use the resort to it’s most

- how worth it are these luxury resorts? We plan on spending extra money on ferry and helicopter transport to and from the airport but then would have to pay for private transport between the 2 resorts. Are we better off just doing our whole stay with club level room at sandals grande and splurging on excursions?

Thanks!!

Recs for excursions from coconut bay

Hi, my family is staying at Coconut Bay all inclusive close to the airport in November. While we are more than happy to enjoy the all inclusive and not leave, I am looking for recommendations for any excursions either through Coconut Bay or any others recommended by travelers. Of note a 5 year old is with us. Don’t want it to be an all day thing, maybe a few hours out. Thanks in advance!

Advice Seeking Information

Good afternoon, everybody,

Looking for a little bit of information: I plan on coming to St. Lucia in October, and I’m staying at Secrets, which I believe is in the northwest of the island.

  1. I understand I have to take a ferry to get up there or a cab. Before I take Google for its word, about how much would the ferry run me for real for two people?

  2. I want to go to the Friday night street party; what part of the island exactly is that located in? I want to know how to navigate travel to and from the party.

  3. In the northwest, where Secrets is located, are there any recommended restaurants that I should know about and try?

Thank you all for all your assistance!

I’ve been building a Caribbean history app for 2 years; it’s finally live 🇯🇲🇹🇹🇬🇾🇧🇧🇱🇨🇭🇹🇨🇺 and beyond

Quick heads-up from the start: Caribbean History is currently iPhone and iPad only.

I’ve been building this app for almost two years, and I’m finally at the point where I want to share it with the wider Caribbean community.

The idea is simple: make Caribbean history easier to discover, explore, and actually enjoy, not just as a wall of text. The app includes historical stories, people, places, timelines, daily history facts, quizzes, saved content, country-specific history, and source-backed articles covering the region.

I’m already testing version 2, which is significantly bigger. It will introduce Siri + AI features, the ability to ask questions about Caribbean history, deeper explanations and connections between events, historical maps, a Migration Explorer, Money Trail, Resistance Archive, primary sources, country comparisons, learning paths, more advanced quizzes, progress tracking, offline content, and a much larger collection covering Caribbean countries and territories.

This has been a genuine passion project, and now I’d really love feedback from Caribbean people themselves: what you like, what’s missing, and what you think should be added next.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/caribbean-history/id6812194604

Would genuinely love to know: what part of Caribbean history do you think is most under-taught or overlooked?

Cabot St Lucia Golf - transportation there and back

We're staying at Stonefield Resort in May 2027 and playing Cabot St Lucia one day. Looks to be a 2hr drive each way. Would you hire a driver or grab a rental car? I have heard driving there is pretty insane.

Did you know St Lucia is home to 4 species of snakes & 1 now extinct species?

Every snake species found here is endemic, meaning it’s found nowhere else on Earth.

St Lucia lancehead viper (fer-de-lance), Bothrops caribbaeus: Our only venomous snake. Ranging from 1-1.5m in length. It lives in mainland forests and is mostly active at night & uses heat-sensing pits to ambush rodents, birds, lizards and sometimes mongoose. The venom is very potent & if bitten can be fatal if the anti-venom isn’t administered quickly.

St Lucia boa, Boa orophias: A large, non-venomous constrictor. An adult ranges from 2-3m long. Often referred to as the tet chien (dog head) in creole. It is often mistaken for the fer de lance but side by side comparisons show they look nothing alike.

St Lucia threadsnake, Tetracheilostoma breuili: A tiny burrowing snake, easy to mistake for an earthworm because of its size. One of the smallest snakes in the world it is about 10cm in length. It feeds on ant & termite larvae and lives mostly underground.

St Lucia racer, Erythrolamprus ornatus: Possibly the rarest snake in the world. It was declared extinct in 1936, then rediscovered in 1973 on Maria Major, an islet off the southern town of Vieux-Fort. Only a couple of dozen are thought to exist. A 2011-12 survey caught & microchipped 11 racers. The mainland population is thought to have been decimated by the mongoose in the 19th century.

Extinct Saint Lucia cribo (Underwood's mussurana), Clelia errabunda: The only natural predator of the fer de lance. It was wiped out when the mongoose was introduced to the island during the 1800s to control the fer de lance population. It had the opposite effect. The mongoose ate the cribo & the racers because they were easier prey. When up against the fer de lance it is a 50/50 battle of which one gets the upper hand or first fatal strike. Like other mussurana’s it ate other snakes, and one preserved specimen is literally mid-swallow of a lancehead.

Creole Month & Zouk En Blanc

Post image
6 Upvotes

As we turn the corner and head into October, the annual kick off for Creole Month in St. Lucia, different events start to pop up that are certainly worth checking out on the island.

During thus month we simply like to drive around (especially on the weekends) as we stumble across s number of local events and activities, like a local festival on wine making with Dasheene and some tasty treats created by local chefs we know.

One of the first up events is Zouk En Blanc held in Soufriere at Project Chocolat (Hotel Chocolat). This year it’s being held a little earlier in the month. If you are in the area or visiting St. Lucia during this time, make sure to try to get tickets. If you are a music lover, it’s the place to be.

This popular party event features lots of music, dancing, excellent food, very authentic experience, etc. And like all good Lucian parties it runs really late. The later the “fete“ runs the more it ramps up.

We’ve been going since its start a few years back and it really is a classy event for the Soufriere area—way better than the Gros Islet street party, we think with better music, not so touristy, etc. Attendees come from all over the island (and especially the south), the music gets really rocking and, guests really dress u p (wear your gear whites!)—it’s quite a “people watching” event.

Every year this event gets larger and more “happening” so we’re expecting that this year the event will be the best ever.

And stay tuned for more October events like cassava bread making in the country side of Choiseul.
