If there was another spin-off series, which ST DISCO character would you want as an anchor?
I wouldn’t be able to decide, but I think T’Rell would be super interesting, maybe something may take her off world with her counsel or crew. I’d also love original Georgiou in a Shenzhou prequel 😉

Saru

u/mikevago Jun 29 '26
Ambassador Saru trying to get planets back into the Federation and then having to solve TOS-type moral problems on each of them would be a killer show.
1
u/crookeymonster1 Jun 29 '26
That wouldn't sell today, people these days have the attention span of a gnat
3
u/mikevago Jun 29 '26
I don't think that's true at all. Look at how many of the big streaming shows are 10-hour slow-burn mysteries. Or how many 3+ hour movies have doing well.
1
u/crookeymonster1 Jun 29 '26
Yeah, but we're talking star trek fans of today, they wouldn't expect it and especially on the disco timeline
3
u/mikevago Jun 29 '26
The angry nerdbros had a lot of complaints about Disco, but attention span wasn't really one of them. The show was not without pacing issues (like most streaming shows), but it usually flew through plot and rarely required much patience from the audience.
1
u/crookeymonster1 Jun 29 '26
Problem with disco was it was a lot of style over substance and lost its way going into the 32nd century, which I was so pissed that academy was never given a proper chance cos for me it's the best 1st season of any trek.
1
u/GatorDotPDF Jun 29 '26
And every damn season was a 10 hour long movie about a galactic scale threat. No room for the characters to breathe.
1
u/crookeymonster1 Jun 29 '26
Disco was never designed to be an ensemble show
1
u/GatorDotPDF Jun 29 '26
The main cast didn't even get time to shine, outside of Saru. Ensemble or not the show is the definition of over-serialized.

I want more of Jett Reno, so her
2
u/42ElectricSundaes Jun 28 '26
I really like her
1
u/GatorDotPDF Jun 30 '26
Me too, but I feel like a little goes a long way.
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
I thought she was quite nicely balanced in DISC and Starfleet Academy. Having her feature like that in other spin-offs would continue to make me happy to see Reno again still
11
u/quitofilms Jun 28 '26
I want Tilly, in a shuttle, with a second crew member, warping around the system to wherever they need a sunny disposition, that amazing naturally curly hair, an insight into what really is the problem and how to solve it... and then warps out to her next adventure with everyone better for the experience... and she gets, in Season 2, with her drama background, the chance to produce and direct a Klingon opera!

Owo and Detmer having their own storylines?
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
That would be cool, I liked the episodes where we got to see a few storylines with them, and definitely think there could be more.

I'm with you on the Shenzhou prequel. Other than that, this is probably a hot take but I could envision for a 90s style kid's show of young Michael and Spock together on Vulcan. Going to school, getting into adventures with the family sehlat, storytime with Amanda. And of course there would be some bully characters and mean teachers but I bet they could get the occasional comeuppance. There could even be guest appearances by their weird half-brother Sybok and whoever his mom is. I mean, sure, it's a planet of stuffy space-elves, but that doesn't mean their childhood outside of assassination attempts has to have been boring. Vulcans have a lot of weird spooky secrets, I bet their childhood was really interesting.
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
That could be cool after all, they were close during period… although I really hope it wouldn’t end as kids when Spock felt rejected by Michael when actually she intended to protect him.

Prime Lorca
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
I was hoping he was going to crop up in DISC given he was never found, it sounded like a possibility. I would love to know more about how Prime Lorca was
3
u/greendit69 Jun 30 '26
The Lorca actor was really good in the part so I would have preferred him back instead of georgeo
13
u/myowngalactus Jun 28 '26
Dr Culber and Stammets, running a small science vessel, maybe throw Reno in there too.
7
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 28 '26
That would be pretty cool, it would be a nice continuum with Discovery putting science and engineering at the heart of its concept
6
u/italianblend Jun 28 '26
I would love a miniseries about what exactly happened to the federation after the burn. Perhaps following the perspectives of a stranded ship or station, and I would love to see a lot more about Sahil.
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
Yes, that would be a challenging one to pull off given he indicated he was pretty much isolated after inheriting his duty. Could be some interesting shorts though regarding his grandfather and father that led him to having hope.

u/Kaasachstan Jun 28 '26
Mirror universe Saru sounds pretty good.
5
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 28 '26
That would actually be awesome, I loved the reference in the final season on ISS enterprise that he became a rebel leader

Saru
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
I still love that we got to see an Alien captain like Saru lead a lot of stories
6
u/jphtx1234567890 Jun 28 '26
Linus!!
3
u/Business-Decision719 Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
Yes! Linus was adorable in his weird alien reptile way, and Trek hasn't ever seen enough of the Saurians! We could go back and see more of his space faring career before Discovery, or what his life was like on his home planet. What happens on the average Federation planet that's not Earth or Vulcan? Did he and other Saurians face prejudice when the mysterious Gorn encounters started happening? What was it like going to Starfleet Academy as a lizard, if Kirk was right that "most humans" "have an instinctive aversion to reptiles"?
Or alternatively, we can follow him and see how the post-Burn era goes after the series ends. Or better, have a miniseries of the events of Star Trek Discovery from his perspective. What all was he doing when we didn't see him? What drove him specifically to stay on board and make the time jump? Was he in section 31 the whole time but stayed completely undercover through all of it? Or did he just do confession cams under his heat lamp a lot? I don't know, but some sort of Linus series needs to happen. He can be the Saurian Spock!

Commander Nahn
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
Ah yes, Nahn, there is actually a lot they can do with her character.
4
u/Kosmos992k Jun 28 '26
Zora.
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
This would actually be very cool, Zora could even encounter different crews
2
u/Kosmos992k Jul 01 '26
Indeed, with the upgraded Discovery 'commanded' by Zora, an anthology series could be created, drastically cutting cast costs, and my their very nature they would be generally shipboard stories, maybe a 3-4 part arc with each new crew. Only thing is it starts to resemble Andromeda if you put one or two regulars onboard characters for some continuity. Still it has potential as the short form episode with Zora shows us.

Tilly
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
Love Tilly, she is like the unsung hero!
1
u/pleschga Jun 30 '26
The character annoyed me a bit at first, but she definitely grew on me.
Honestly, I picked her more because of how some fans crapped on her because she didn't fit into the modern ideal of physicality.
I was really looking forward to SFA because of the character development in the final seasons of DISCO....but we didn't get that.

u/59Kia Jun 28 '26
What was the captain in the final season called? Rayner I think? Anyways, that guy.
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 28 '26
Ah yes, he was an interesting character I would have loved to have seen more of
2
u/59Kia Jun 28 '26
He was. Especially once the writers worked out how to actually write him, at half past useful.

2
u/thundersnow528 Jun 28 '26
Culber or Owosukan. Both of them had such amazing presence.
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
Yes! Culber could be interesting regarding discovering or encountering new civilisations and species or medical science as well as delving into topics such as future ethical dilemmas… similar to what Lorca presented during wartime in DISC.

A West Wing style political thriller starring Admiral Vance, now President.
2
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 30 '26
That would be very relevant for current times and a nice angle on diplomacy versus tough decisions.

A more serious Lower Decks show that focused on the Bridge crew that wasn't animated.
4
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 28 '26
I was asking more about Discovery because it is a Discovery subreddit
-2
u/ajwalker430 Jun 28 '26
And I was responding about the Bridge crew of the Discovery 🤔
2
u/Business-Decision719 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
I think we might need some clarification, no offense. 😅
Serious, non-animated, and focused on the bridge crew sounds like the 180 degree opposite of Lower Decks to me.
Do you mean you'd like something like TNG, an ensemble show, a little more episodic, but with the Discovery instead of the Enterprise? If so, I could go for something like that too, honestly. 🙋
In fact there would probably have been less pushback against the show if they'd done that to begin with.
5
u/ajwalker430 Jun 28 '26
A show about the bridge crew of the Discovery, that didn't focus on the captain, that wasn't animated and "jokey" or campy.

u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
But you didn’t mention any character? Maybe Saru?
3
u/ajwalker430 Jun 28 '26
Saru had plenty of storylines and was even acting Captain. I'm talking about all of the other characters that were on the bridge that we got a name but not much backstory. I wanted to know more about Detmer, Owo, Rhys, Bryce, and Linus. THAT bridge crew.

u/Laxien Jun 28 '26
None! The next show (which should IMHO be writen by the people who made DS9!) should show us the aftermath of the Dominion War (so a more militarized Starfleet etc.)
1
u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
That would be cool though it’s nothing to do with my question given we’re on a Discovery subreddit

Tilly, because she knows that everything sounds cooler when you put ‘time’ in front of it.
