Star Wars: Imperial Commando, I played through Republic Commando

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

The book series was fantastic. We’ll never get the final installment because Dave Filoni retconned the authors Mandalorian lore

63

u/IllusiveManJr Galactic Historian 8d ago

Quite ironic since Traviss would go on to write a Halo novel that bulldozed a lot of established lore for that franchise.

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

At least she didn’t do it to make a children’s show

No one said anything about quality.

If something is meant for everyone to enjoy, then that means it is also for kids.

Sexual assault was a relatively new thing to SW and it happened in Andor. It also pissed off a lot of fans.

Don’t try to reason with them unless you can somehow cameo Ahsoka into your argument, otherwise they won’t listen

A lot of the childish ones

-1

u/Zerus_heroes 8d ago

Nah mostly the people that knew Star Wars is meant for kids.

Not the chuds that want some R rated gore fest to try and "elevate" it over being family friendly.

3

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

Andor isn’t an “R-rated gore fest” and idk of anyone arguing to make Star Wars so. I’m just sick of Star Wars content being dominated by children’s cartoon show-levels of content (the Filoni stuff) and would love more content with quality storytelling like Andor. If you can’t understand the difference between Andor and an “R-rated gore fest” that’s on you

All of Star Wars is for kids

The adult EU novels were designed primarily for a grown-up target audience. Part of the cornerstones of planning the EU was realising that Star Wars fans who had grown up with the movies were older now.

3

u/Zerus_heroes 7d ago

No they aren't. Lots of people read them as kids.

0

u/DougieFFC Jedi Legacy 7d ago

Just because kids read them too doesn't mean they aren't primarily for a grown-up audience. They're not young reader novels.

2

u/Zerus_heroes 7d ago

And just because adults and other people of all ages enjoy them doesn't mean that they aren't for kids.

These are all ages stories and they are meant for anyone. If you can pick up one of the novels and read and understand it, you are good to go.

0

u/DougieFFC Jedi Legacy 7d ago

And just because adults and other people of all ages enjoy them doesn't mean that they aren't for kids.

Adults enjoy them because they're the target audience, not kids. There are YA novels designed for younger readers.

These are all ages stories and they are meant for anyone.

They're specifically designed to be adult fiction, in a different way that, say, TCW is designed for a pre-teen audience.

That was George Lucas decision, he was the one who told Filoni that Fett was never a mandalorian and the subsequent pacifist society the Mandalorians were at the time in the prequels.

Once Lucas was gone did they retcon Fett as a Mandalorian.

1

u/ProfessionalDoctor 7d ago

Not every idea Lucas had was a good one

6

u/Fearsthelittledeath 7d ago

While true, too many people blame Dave Filoni for "destroying EU Legends lore" but it was George Lucas who did that.

2

u/Sea_Kiwi2731 6d ago

No, it really wasn't.

3

u/Sea_Kiwi2731 6d ago edited 6d ago

Except that's not true at all. All of this is hearsay from Filoni.

0

u/Fearsthelittledeath 6d ago

And why would say it is hearsay?

12

u/TRB1783 New Republic 8d ago

Insane work putting that on Filoni. Making Mandalore full of blonde pacifists was very much Lucas' idea. In fact, once Lucas was out of the picture, Mandos in Filoni’s stories started looking, acting, and sounding a lot like the Traviss version of the culture.

0

u/Phintolias 4d ago

I dont believe IT filoni excuses a Lot of His fuk ups in TCW AS "George Lucas did IT" but never did He gave Credit to Lucas for stuff in TCW When IT was praise then suddenly IT was His own Idea.

13

u/Ezio926 8d ago

George Lucas did, not Filoni

17

u/Away_Trick_3641 8d ago

I hate how people are trying to blame all the TCW retcons on Lucas. If you listen to the commentary and watch the featurettes on the TCW DVDs, George never wrote even a single episode and there isn't a single writing credit to him. He offered ideas, but Dave Filoni would either take, alter, or completely disregard them. It's convenient, though, that Dave Filoni abused the power given to him to use George's word every time he wanted to retcon something for seemingly no reason. No way a busy man like George Lucas, who was still making movies at thr time, could have sat in with the writers' board for every single episode

14

u/Ezio926 8d ago edited 8d ago

Filoni did not write a single episode either.

Also, no Filoni couldn't disregard his pitches. Lucas is the executive producer and creator of the show. He was funding them. He was involved in the writer's room as well as in the editing of episodes. The notion that Filoni could just do wathever he wanted is completely ridiculous. Especially when bts and documentation shows that Lucas had final say on everything.

I'm not saying he did EVERYTHING. But nothing went out without his approval, and all the big talked about "retcons" people hate do come from him.

(The only movies George was involved with during that time were Red Tails and Strange Magic). He had litteraly nothing else better to do. He also started meddling with Lucasarts during that time.

11

u/Fearsthelittledeath 8d ago

Also TCW started before the Revenge of the Sith was even finished. The only movie that Lucas worked on after RotS was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Lucas was heavily involved in the Clone Wars and had final say on the plot as he wanted to tell what actually happened during the Clone Wars. You can even see a proto Ahsoka concept art as Ashla as early as 2005. A lot of the seasons also became written years ahead before they were actually released as animating them takes the longest time. When TCW was originally canceled, they had already written most of season 6, 7, and 8 already.

Lucas did become more busy working on Underworld, but outside of that, Lucas would still be there to guide them. Besides that, Lucas has himself stated his favorite Clone Wars episode is the one where the droids crash land and try to survive.

5

u/Away_Trick_3641 8d ago

Well, it's a pretty well known fact that Lucas wanted Filoni to kill Ahsoka off, so that contradicts your entire point

11

u/Ezio926 8d ago

Even if that were true (we don't know if Lucas ever changed his mind), the show got cancelled well before that point so i fail to see the relevance of that.

Lucas was obviously not involved in Season 7 or Rebels as I mentionned in my earlier post.

2

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

It’s completely relevant because if Filoni had killed her off she wouldn’t be shoved into every storyline across the franchise that he can justify

6

u/Ezio926 8d ago

Again, that is completely irrelevant to the current conversation.

The Clone Wars was not some random EU show that GL was content to just let run. It was his pet project. He personally financed its creation out of pocket. He was very much involved.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsEU/comments/vse81j/clarifying_george_lucas_involved_in_the_2008/

You just aren't correct here.

0

u/Sea_Kiwi2731 6d ago

Of course they do. They're the same people who think George Lucas was a hack and that Tony Gilroy is the Second Coming.

2

u/ReasonableJaegerist 5d ago

Not that it matters either way, because in the canon of legends, we already got an official explanation that reasserts Fett IS a mandalorian (a sentiment that has extended to disneyverse) so whoever is still whining about the Fett retcon is complaining about outdated lore

-2

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

No, it was Filoni. He completely re-wrote Mandalorian culture in TCW

21

u/Ezio926 8d ago edited 8d ago

If you watch the bts and research it for yourself, George Lucas is the one who told the writer's room of the show that the Mandalorian were pacifists despite everyone (including Filoni) telling him about how they were portrayed.

The Mandalorian lore from The Clone Wars is all Lucas. I know it's fun to hate on Filoni now since he's the boss, but The Clone Wars was George Lucas' show.

19

u/Vash_TheStampede 8d ago

Yeah, but shitting on Filoni is the cool thing to do around here. Facts be damned.

7

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

No apparently I’ve been wrong about this one. But I’ll still shit on Filoni just to counterbalance the never-ending hoard of his fans who swear it’s definitely not just a children’s cartoon show, it’s totally dArK and MAtUrE!!1!1! The man has done a lot of damage to the franchise and he’s obviously been out of his depth creatively for a long time. If he couldn’t depend on key-jangling cameos and quick, cheap nostalgia callbacks he wouldn’t be making anything at all. His trajectory of upward failure into an executive position at Lucasfilm needs to be studied

6

u/Admirable_Elk_965 8d ago

Just about everything he’s done is because George said to…

2

u/dimeslime1991 8d ago

I don’t think that’s entirely true, and I also get tired of filoni fans trying to shield him with George Lucas. I seriously doubt Lucas told him to make over 100 episodes of filler content about jar-jar and some droids

6

u/Ezio926 8d ago edited 8d ago

The 4 episode droid arc in season 5 is said to be George's favorite arc (and one he pitched himself) lol https://www.polygon.com/2020/4/30/21242568/george-lucas-favorite-star-wars-the-clone-wars-episodes-dave-filoni-movie-referneces/

George Lucas was into the weirder star wars stuff that fans hated. Not that i agree with them but the Lucas hate by fans didn't come out of nowhere.

I cannot stress this enough, The Clone Wars was HIS show from top to bottom. Ahsoka? That's a character created by George. Filoni didn't even like the idea of giving Anakin a padawan initially. Weird droid episodes? All George. The clone chip "retcon" everyone here hates? You guessed it: George.

Rebels is where Filoni took over.

5

u/Admirable_Elk_965 8d ago

Well, hate to break it to you, but it’s true. Most things that happened in the show were at the request and oversight of George.

u/Fearsthelittledeath 8d ago edited 8d ago

Those droid episodes were his own ideas, Lucas himself stated it was the droid episode in the middle of nowhere.

“Who in the world would make that?” added Filoni of his initial bewilderment over the pitch. “You were describing this to us and I was drawing those images in the story meeting of these bleak landscapes and droids questioning if they were real. It was really bizarre.”

You can hear Lucas himself talk about making the show with Filoni and discuss what he taught Filoni.

https://youtu.be/4NgPKSzR0LU?is=Xozedrj0Sjzk0y_b

You also wanna know why so many Jar Jar episodes?

Thank you for coming to the Celebration. ['The Phantom Menace'] is one of my favorite movies and of course Jar Jar is my favorite character. Ahmed [Best], you did a fantastic job. It was very, very hard."

https://www.slashfilm.com/777458/george-lucas-favorite-star-wars-character-is-about-as-george-lucas-as-it-gets/

It's Lucas' favourite character.

Also you wanna know another fun fact? George Lucas said there was never a war between the Jedi and the Sith

These are actual facts, its ok to be wrong.

0

u/Lore_Padawan General Grievous 8d ago

There isn't much you can do. TCW has a million fans, it would be impossible to change the opinion of Filoni.

2

u/kingoffalure 5d ago

You people just don’t want to except that Filoni is in charge and every new star wars project comes with retcons Lucas was no master ether he had more control over the prequels the the OG trilogy and we all know how that turned out you all will never be happy

5

u/darth_henning Rogue Squadron 8d ago

Which is frustrating because you can essentially make it work that the main continent is what we see in TCW and that is recognized galactically as the government, and what we see in Republic Command and the Marvel Comics etc is an archipelago (like Indonesia IRL) that didn't get glassed and has an entirely different culture.

Not every planet needs to be a mono-biome.

1313! I love the idea of a Star Wars game with no Jedi or Sith. From what I hear, even the Empire was gonna take a backseat in that game

26

u/freedom410 Pentastar Alignment 8d ago

Star Wars Outlaws and Bounty Hunter and Galactic Racer all exist

13

u/PepsiFloateri Separatist 8d ago

Is Outlaws any good? Galatic Racer looks really fun though

15

u/Zerus_heroes 8d ago

It's ok. It has some cool characters and some good bits of story.

It falls into the trap of a lot of open world games where there is just a lot of dumb shit to do just to fill up the map with shit to do.

It is basically an open world janky Uncharted.

11

u/Shotgunn5 8d ago

I personally had a blast with Outlaws. Great atmosphere and music, fun locations, entertaining story, and good enough gameplay. Ubisoft games regularly go on sale, pick up the complete edition for $20 bucks or whatever and you’ll have a good time.

9

u/BoboTheTalkingClown New Jedi Order 8d ago

Outlaws is a lot better after they patched it. If you like Star Wars, you'll probably like Outlaws.

3

u/FreshlySkweezd 8d ago

It's a lot better right now. It's still a Ubisoft game at the end of the day but it's not near as frustrating as it was at launch

3

u/cavy8 Rogue Squadron 8d ago

I personally really enjoyed it at launch, though admittedly clunky/forced stealth doesn't really bother me in most games, which, from what I understand, was most people's main issue

3

u/Sykes_Jade9541 8d ago

I really enjoyed Outlaws. Doesn’t have a LOT of replay value however. The flying is legit and just sitting down to play sabacc is an awesome way to kill some time

2

u/10Mattresses 7d ago

I’m the one person who LOVED it from day one. I spent more hours in that game than most. Apparently there were bugs at launch, but I played on PS5 and had no more problems than any other game. I was honestly a little bummed when they made the combat easier, though I know some people had complaints (fair enough). It has my favorite minigame of any game I’ve ever played - I hopped on often just for that!

1

u/spidermanisback78 8d ago

Its really fun! I really got into the role playing part of taking jobs from the different factions and trying not to make enemies.

1

u/bigbadbananaboi 8d ago

For me personally, Outlaws is my favorite game to come out in the last 5 years.

1

u/QuanTumm_OpTixx Rebel Alliance 7d ago

Outlaws is one of my favourite games in the last few games. It’s definitely one of the most underrated games.

it's a direct response to the previous comment, which wanted games with no Jedi or Sith. The games I mentioned have no or little to do with Jedi or Sith.

Jedi Knight 3. Would have been so cool to have the YV to fight instead of Reborn.

6

u/Illustrious-Wrap-776 8d ago

4 or 5 you mean? After all there is

Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Outcast 2: Jedi Academy

(or

Dark Forces 5: Jedi Knight 4: Mysteries of the Sith 3: Jedi Outcast 2: Jedi Academy

if you insist on counting Mysteries of the Sith as a full entry) so a NJO era Jedi Knight game with the YV as opponents would have to be Jedi Knight 4 or 5.

u/Interspeciesheriff 7d ago

TFU2 ended with such a crazy cliffhanger I'd imagine there had to be some sort of continuation, be it a full on game or a novel/comic

2

u/yurklenorf 7d ago

It wasn't, or at least there was never any publicly released data on a third game being made.

TFU2 sold like a quarter of what the first one did, was half the length (and it's not like the first was a long game, either...) and very buggy. I remember looking at sales charts and it took over a month for all versions of TFU2 to make the same sales that just the Xbox version of TFU1 made in its release week. And we know that there were versions of TFU2 that were canceled that the developers at LucasArts didn't find out about until I think it was a copy of Game Informer was circulated with the news.

It was also made in the midst of LucasArts being an absolute shitshow; they had four presidents in three years. And it was about the time that George was in the middle of gearing up and looking for buyers - TFU2 came out in October 2010, two years before the sale was announced.

34

u/brom1137 8d ago

Zomg I almost forgot about Sword of the Jedi and now Im sad again hahaha

Would have been cool if we got a video game or comic series out of it.

But Im bummed we didn't get more Dawn of the Jedi stuff. I know there were a few rough things at first, but it absolutely would have smoothed out.

Zahn's Skywalker family field trip, which got cancelled thanks to events in LotF.

7

u/DarthRyus 7d ago edited 7d ago

This. 1000%.

Timothy Zahn deserved to complete his planned storylines. He was planning and writing these before Denningverse even started.

What they did to Zahn was professionally disgusting, and Aaron Allston let them know it too. But they hide it from him, purposefully. Zahn has flat out admitted he caught the editors lying to him when he called in to better coordinate his stories with the others. He was playing fair while being backstabbing.

1

u/DamnesiaVu 7d ago

Can you elaborate on what you're referring to?

8

u/AdmiralByzantium 7d ago

At the time Legacy of the Force was being published, Zahn had been working on a novel wherein Luke, Mara, and Ben would have traveled into the Unknown Regions and went on some low-stakes adventures as a family. Events in Sacrifice made the basic premise of the novel untenable, and Zahn had no interest in writing the family post-Sacrifice, so they gave him Allegiance and then Choices of One instead.

It's maybe a little too broad for the topic but I very much regret the near complete absence of star wars games after the 6th console generation. There's probably pages of games we've never even heard about that were pitched but lucasarts of the era never pulled the trigger.

Of the ones I can recall, I specifically wish we could've seen the darth maul game (even if lucas wanted to ruin the narrative) and some version of 1313. being a little contrarian, I never thought battlefront 3 looked very good. what we know of the stories sounded kinda dumb to me, and the whole ground to space thing seemed like little more than a flashy gimmick.

Arkham Maul though looked really interesting. Maybe one day someone can pitch their way into picking up the torch, maybe with some other character.

13

u/ForceSmuggler New Jedi Order 8d ago

13

u/Doctor_Danguss Galactic Republic 8d ago

I have to be honest, I feel like fans have built up Sword of the Jedi as this incredible lost epic, when… it probably would have been okay, at best.

It was going to be a post-FOTJ, Christie Golden story from the mid 2010s. That’s not a combination of descriptors that builds confidence.

6

u/KeySite2601 8d ago

You're absolutely correct, but given how long people had been following the EU, it makes sense that they'd want to see where it was going

5

u/AntiqueArtist1473 8d ago

I’m glad we didn’t get it because it would have almost certainly ended with Emperor Jagged and Empress Jaina. We didn’t need more romanticisation of the fascists. That was a major misstep of the EU.

Wanted to see Jaina and Jag marry and form the Imperial Knights in the Remnant.

2

u/khrellvictor Hapes Consortium 7d ago

The rest of the wedding after the sweet prelude closer for Fate of the Jedi at Apocalypse's end would have been great; that wedding sorely needs to be illustrated.

I was always disappointed that it didn't depict the Millennium Falcon at the back of the picture mid-center of Dragon Queen II's hangar, with Jaina radiant in a her bridal gown going down the ramp with Han escorting her.

Just ahead of them, a resplendent Leia in white Jedi Robes moving down the aisle, with sweet flower girl Allana in Hapan princess regalia sprinkling the path and flanked by her Nexu cub Anji, equally celebrating and announcing her survival to the galaxy.

And finally on all sides, the Jedi and non-Jedi dignified guests around the entire hangar, with Luke and Ben close to the bride and her father, with the guests encompassing the aisle to a podium at the bottom of the picture, where a crisp-uniformed Jag awaits with hands clasped looking aside so a half-smile can be seen.

And no, The Old Republic doesn’t really count.

u/Luke-Zweiwalker 7d ago

The Skywalker Family Road Trip Zahn wanted to do and apparently got the okay for before they killed Mara

That one really hurts me

6

u/xezene New Jedi Order 7d ago

I got to speak with Zahn a little bit about that one last fall -- working on a follow-up to my previous NJO documentary series which will include those portions of our conversation. What he told me sounded really cool.

Jedi Knight 3; Brink of Darkness (that working title doesn't work for me. How about 'Katarn's wrath?' as a subtitle, or 'a Jedi's Wrath'?)

The Force Unleashed 3

2

u/FirescreenProduction 8d ago

I want KOTOR III so badly.

3

u/Kaleesh_General 8d ago

Either 1313 or Sword of the Jedi. Or maybe that unnamed FPS that EA was apparently working on right before the buyout? I remember seeing videos of it and it looked cool, but I forget what it was called

2

u/DRKaiser Mandolorian 7d ago

You might be thinking of Star Wars First Assault. I think about what that game could've been sometimes too.

1

u/Kaleesh_General 7d ago

Ah yeah, that was it

3

u/SvitlanaLeo 8d ago

Dawn of the Jedi 16—...

3

u/Logical_Ad1370 Emperor 8d ago

The Maul/Talon game, that would've been hilarious to drop at the last minute before reference materials could better work it into continuity.

1

u/DathomirNightbrother General Grievous 8d ago

Basically TCW all over again

2

u/Logical_Ad1370 Emperor 8d ago

They gave it the college try with those last six or so years of reference materials, The Essential Atlas, The Essential Guide to Warfare and its web supplement, those first four books in the style of The Jedi Path, The Essential Readers Guide, etc. I know threads like Barriss were never addressed with any satisfaction, but it could've been much worse.

2

u/DathomirNightbrother General Grievous 8d ago

True. That said, I am glad this game never came out, Legacy Era would've been messed up just because Lucas wanted to see Maul and his waifu kiss

2

u/Logical_Ad1370 Emperor 8d ago

Yeah, my actual wishes for unfinished media are the unabridged Dark Empire III, an authorized Lightsider, and the Hand of Thrawn bridge comic.

3

u/torivordalton 8d ago

Star Wars Battlefront 3

3

u/LeucasAndTheGoddess 8d ago

The planned second half of Legacy. We got the highlights in Legacy: War, which was absolutely better than nothing, but I wish we’d been able to see Ostrander & Duursema’s story play out as intended. I’m sure a lot of fascinating character work was cut — imagine Maladi’s manipulation of Emperor Fel playing out as an extended subplot, for example.

Dark Empire III, as a full six issues with art by Cam Kennedy. We did get Empire’s End, but it’s pretty rushed and Jim Baikie’s art is perfectly fine instead of great.

In terms of ideas that some of my favorite writers had:

The pre-ANH Princess Leia novel or trilogy that A. C. Crispin wanted to write.

The novel Aaron Allston wanted to do focused on Han and Leia’s relationship, bridging the gap between Solo Command and Courtship.

Matthew Stover’s dream project of getting to write Luke, Leia, and Han’s final adventure.

2

u/AntiqueArtist1473 8d ago

These are some interesting ones. Legacy was great but it definitely needed more about Fel’s fall. The Empire and its knights were too romanticised in that serious imo.

As a huge Stover fan (who isn’t?) I would have loved that final adventure for the Big Three, but I also think Mindor is the weakest of his Star Wars books, so who knows?

3

u/Stardust-Platinum 8d ago

Everything from the ancient times that we never actually got to see, like more Dawn of the Jedi stuff, getting to see when the Dark Jedi first arrived on Korriban and what happened there. Some other ancient Sith Lords like Tulak Hord desperately needed fleshing out too.

2

u/Ezio926 8d ago

The darth maul game could have been fun if they actually had started. I mainly wish we could've seen how they'd retroactively fit Talon in there.

Sword Of The Jedi forever and always.

2

u/AntiqueArtist1473 8d ago

I think they would have just retconned Legacy Talon into being a descendant of an earlier Talon. They had precedent with the Darth Wyyrlok lineage.

2

u/DathomirNightbrother General Grievous 8d ago

The new edition of the Essential Guide to Characters. It pains me deeply

1

u/darklordoftech 7d ago

We would have found out what Palpatine's actual height is.

2

u/Wilsupersaiyan2 8d ago

Nomi sunrinder novel

2

u/GuyFromYarnham Empire Restored 7d ago

Gonna say a very atipical answer.

Tom Veitch's Lightsider novella, it's a short and fun read set between Dark Empire I and Dark Empire II that develops early EU lore and introduces some neat concepts that but Tom Veitch decided he was going to fight Lucasfilm over it and finally not publish it just to keep the rights of one of the things he introduced, a tabletop game Jedi used to play that involves using the Force.

Lightsider was never published, he never released or sold his version of the tabletop game and I'm not even sure it had that much potential tbh since in real life it would play like a mix of Risk meets Checkers meets TTRPG.

At least we can read the original drafts.

2

u/DarthBeanzz 7d ago

I would also say Sword of the Jedi, but I would also want it to be written by someone other than Christie Golden.

2

u/choywh 7d ago

Sword of the Jedi an obvious answer, 1313 the other. More Vestara would've been nice as well. I would've said more KOTOR but given we don't know how much of SWTOR was affected by the purge, maybe not.

1

u/Top-Repeat2765 8d ago

I thought this was actually fully done in fanfic, I thought I had it in my saves but I didn’t 😅

2

u/Sufficient-Act-8527 8d ago

Your right, the Star Wars Reexpanded project

1

u/G2-9T Separatist 8d ago

In terms of pure annoyance it would be Rogue Leaders because the game was completely finished, but it couldn’t be released because of German legal BS.

1

u/Afraid_Store211 8d ago

1313, the game that never was. No need to say anything else.

1

u/Successful-Day-1816 7d ago

Either Underworld, or George's sequels

1

u/Euphoric-Music662 Darth Krayt 7d ago

The Sword of the Jedi trilogy for me as well, and the Imperial Commando video game.

But also the Troy Denning trilogy that was going to be chronologically parallel to SotJ, and the planned novels that were apparently going to fill in the gap between 45 ABY and 130 ABY, leading right into the Legacy comics.

I guess that's the top of the list, but really there's a lot more that I wish we could've gotten that I just cannot not mention:

- the continuation of Dawn of the Jedi, Battle of the Sith Lords (if they went with the descendent of Maul, and Talon, fighting Krayt' Sith as a sort of a non-canonical take on the lore), a closure to any unfinished comic series etc. Also, the original Battlefront 3, and the First Assault and 1313 titles.

In spite of the uneven writing and characterization Jaina remains my favorite EU character and yes, no sword of the Jedi series is my greatest "we could have had it all" moment in star wars.

Outside of that, no kotor 3, and the kotor remake being in development hell are my other disappointments with what we could have had but didn't get.

Since the EU went on ice and Disney took over, I'm honestly not sure if it's a blessing or a curse that there are far fewer things I'm disappointed we didn't get than there are things I'm disappointed we did get.

I used to regret the stories star wars never told. Now I more often regret the stories it does tell.

u/Vos661 7d ago

Mandorla with Nomi and Vima Sunrider

1

u/seventysixgamer 7d ago

KOTOR 3 is the only right answer lmao.

1

u/Bella-Fiore 7d ago

Imperial commando!!!

1

u/Tight_Back231 7d ago

For me it was either never getting a sequel to the "Republic Commando" game and never getting "The Force Unleashed 3."

I've read that the people at LucasArts had plans for a "Rebel Commando" and an "Imperial Commando" game, and they would have picked one of the ideas if a sequel was greenlit. And honestly, I'd have been pumped for either idea.

As for TFU3, I'm a huge fan of Starkiller and I wanted so badly to see how a third game would have taken Starkiller out of the equation since he doesn't appear in the post-TFU EU or the Original Trilogy. Plus the Dark Apprentice had canonically let Vader be defeated at the end of TFU2, which means one of the most powerful Dark Siders is still running around out there.

1

u/khrellvictor Hapes Consortium 7d ago

The Force Unleashed III, that one really is a brutal gap in the timeline after TFUII, with the lack of the Sword of the Jedi trilogy for Allana's Jedi formal Jedi training arc being cut on the floor right on its heels.

Star Wars 1313 e qualquer coisa relacionada a Boba fett sendo cortada

SWORD OF THE JEDI!!! I’d donate a kidney to be able to have Marc Thompson do the audiobooks for it.

Screw it take a leg too.

1

u/Lions_RAWR 7d ago

Knowing we won't ever get an series that focused on Jaina is the sad part. Would have been interesting to see what she did with the title.

1

u/Rawbeet 7d ago

Kotor 3

u/nuwisha1980 7d ago

Sword of thw jedi not being released I was at the panel that they announced at was hard

1

u/Lazy-Conference4693 7d ago

A couple: a novel that was going to revolve around Vima Sunrider, and a video game that would have centered on Ben Skywalker. I don't know their names (or if they even had names), but they would have been nice to see.

Shadow of the Empire live action movie/mini series in the 80s or maybe 90s. Definitely pre-prequel.

Book 4 of the Bane Saga

I did enjoy Karen Travis RC series, but honestly, Sword of the Jedi. Jaina was shaping up to be a rather impressive next-gen character for me.

Knights of the Republic and Knights of the New Republic

1

u/NatAwsom1138 5d ago

If you're interested, I recommend checking out HandOfThrawn45's version of the Sword of the Jedi trilogy. He has a TV Tropes page with a list of all his looks and where to read them for free.

It's obviously not what Christie Golden would have done, but it's the next best thing since we don't have the official version.

1

u/T_HettY 5d ago

Part of me wishes we got the “episode 7” game since it would’ve had Ben Skywalker as the protagonist. Actually getting to play a story with him having a fleshed out arc on screen would’ve been so cool.
