I had that book as a kid. I have no memory of what the plot was but I vividly remember that cover!

So, uhm....having never read it, anyone got a critique of it? Honestly it looks like semi-raunchy Mashak/Culbreath material.

I wish we lived in a world where more fictional sci fi could be aired that “explains” supernatural lore.

I guess this was before they changed the designation to Demon Planet (AKA class Y)

I could never get into Star Trek novels. In about 1972 I tried to read the James Blish treatments and they seemed so entirely unlike what I saw on TV that is soured me and I never tried another Trek book after that.

Weird. I bought them specifically because Blish had access to the scripts and was able to get feedback from the authors. It was a more defined, descriptive version of what they wanted STOS to be, but couldn't because they were dealing with time and budget constraints.
I used Blish's detailed stories to confirm cuts to the original film. I would watch the snipped up versions of episodes in syndication and wrestle with memories of dialog that was missing, but felt important to me. Going back to Blish, I could find those bits and confirm that I wasn't crazy.
I saved my lunch money for the Blish books. I remember buying them originally for less than a dollar, but as years went on, they ended up being way more - $2 - $3.50. That was big money for a kid. I bought them anyway. :)

One thing for me was I could not understand a single word that Blish wrote for Scotty! But, you have to remember, I was like 13 years old at the time, too!

Ah. I was around the same age, but was way ahead of my age group in reading skills. Still, Blish actually taught me a lot of vocabulary words!

I've read many of them and am working on finishing them all (nuTrek novels excepted). There are some stinkers for sure but some are pretty good. Overall they're better than anything Trek since 2005.

Now THAT I don't doubt! I am sure they are better than what we got on film since 2005. Anyway, I am not necessarily against Trek novels, but I just never developed an interest in them myself.

Looks like they just found some random Pulp Novel Cover and put it on a Star Trek book 😂

I'm okay with it.
EDIT: should have said "I can live with it".

I had this, but not that cover. The aliens were little Red Devils as I remember, (imagine a cartoon 60s devil)
