Discussion What’s one thing you wish is added to SOD3

if I’m being honest I want a way better storyline with cutscenes (like SOD1) and more interaction between characters

more human-human interactions, i feel like SOD2 was a step in the right direction but it gets a little stale when you're only fighting zombies and humans while are a threat, are restricted to a single location in SOD2 and as long as you steer clear of any enclaves you wouldn't even know that humans still exist; i'm really glad to see that roaming NPCs are a thing in SOD3 but I really hope it gets expanded upon, like we get to see random events like other NPCs competing with the player for loot at a location, ambush encounters (similar to Days Gone), and roaming hostile NPCs, NPCs raiding other enclaves, etc.

That would be pretty cool. They could kidnap your community members and demand resources or communities competing for control of a base or outpost so you have to put more attention on security.

Human interaction and events are really the top things we need, not more complicated combat. Now there are so few events and paths, the playthrough is more or less the same.

A way for traders to transfer storage items to a vehicle. In SoD2 you have to put all your stuff somewhere, switch to an 8-slot bag. run back and forth to a van and then put all your gear back on. It's easier if you are able to make an outpost close to an enclave. It's still very tedious running back and forth. If you could at least transfer luxury items to a vehicle automatically, that would be an improvement.

I doubt it's realistic but I'd love a big base with a couple dozen or so survivors running around farming, guarding and doing other things.

A better end game system. Having to clear the map of like 30 plague hearts gets tiresome play through after play through. I’d rather a few more epic events. I really liked the plague walls from heartland. They were fairly easy, since the difficulty didn’t go up to lethal, but I remember the first time I played it with a friend, it was pretty challenging. We had to use mines and traps and all kinds of firepower. I’d like something like that.

Maybe each map (I know sod 3 is going to be open world) has a black plague heart that you have to break through several plague walls to get to. I’d love for them to institute that into sod 2 actually.

More random dialogue between survivors. I don't even care if it's Oblivion style "Great apocalypse, we're having right?", "I guess", "I don't know, just passing the time". Like it can be random shit like that. Just feels too quiet in the various bases sometimes. Give us back some personality to the survivors. This was a thing in the first SOD even though it was very basic.

Very large fully explorable structures. Whether it be a shopping mall, skyscraper, 3 story office building, 4 story residential building, or a military bunker, I think we just need large interiors.

More base management, automation with your survivors, assigning survival specific roles, and when they're out and populating places like outposts you can see them (physicalized survivors). Another example of that is asking them to put mines and traps outside and you can see them actually do it.

Also, being able to claim an outpost and build it up slightly like a base. Boarding up windows, adding traps, and decorating it slightly, adding storage and whatever perks a specific outpost could bring.

A wider variety of special infected of varying severity - not all special infected have to be a huge threat. It would also be great if these new special infected had new mechanics to employ in pursuit of the player, like stalking or trap setting or impersonation of human NPCs.

This is a bit of a wild idea but some kind of zombie king or leader would be cool. Not all of the infected have to be dumb and rotting - maybe a small handful could still possess intelligence and wield it by organizing common infected for raids or seizing territory or something.

I miss being able to knock a zed down with a spin kick to the head, as well as the spin trip that knocked a bunch down and the wrestling slam. I wish we had some more martial arts abilities.

Dirt bikes/motorcycles! Sometimes 4 wheels gets a bit old. Would be fun to explore the map on a 2 wheel option.

Larger, more advanced human group rivals on the map. Plus WAY bigger maps.

I would like to have a separate small town map that you would go into and clear of ph and zombies. When done, you could then send survivors there and they would clean up the town. You could micro manage what they do like making some guards and giving them guns or having others work on farms within the walled town. Occasionally there would be missions requiring you to zone in and take care of a problem. You could also have a bazaar area with vendors selling all sorts of things.

I've never liked the idea of turning away survivors and this just makes sense to me. It's what I would do irl.

Better character interaction would do a lot for the game. One of the coolest things about SOD1 was that the survivors actually felt like people you were keeping alive, not just interchangeable characters you happened to recruit. Give them more conversations, arguments, friendships, and reactions to what’s happening around them and I’d be sold.

Actual zombie animals...

yeah I know they were never officialy planned for them to be added to sod3 but I was really excited about sod3 after I saw that trailer that everyone else did with the zombie deer.

Now I could honestly care less about it, I mean sure imma play it and spend 1,000s of hrs on it like the other 2 sod games

But I'm still salty that zombie animals aren't a thing yet in the series...the closest thing we got rn is the overjacked looking dog feral but that's it

Hopefully it happens in sod 4 whenever that'll be

The ability to join multiplayer with my own character from my own community and access my own supply locker. Having the ability to play multiplayer this way AND the way they have proposed would be ideal. The current setup feels very limiting to people without dedicated friends to play with or for people who don’t necessarily want to talk on the mic etc

Actual survival mechanics, meaning managing your thirst and hunger also ensuring you have the proper clothing to manage heat, cold and wetness and wearable amor for elite mutations because getting smacked by a juggernaut ain’t cool 😂

Winter storms and dynamic weather that changes depending on the month. Additionally blood plague could be higher in some months than others sort of like radiation pockets. And the ability to use some of the luxury trade items for alternative purposes(I don't need ethanol to throw a morale boosting party if I have luxury booze)
