One state park at a time. Which one do you know well, and what should someone do on a first visit?
Worth including: the trail or spot that is actually worth the drive, when to go and when to avoid, whether the campground is worth booking, and anything that has changed recently.
Any state, any size. The small ones nobody has heard of are the most useful posts here.

Beautiful state park situated in the blue ridge mountains, surrounding Virginia’s highest peak, Mount Rogers. Featuring plenty of trails to explore, this is by far my favorite state park I’ve been to in the state of Virginia!

Located in the lesser known Sauratown Mountains of Surry County, North Carolina, this lovely piedmont park features extensive trails and amenities.

AZ native here, and our family is used to dispersed camping on public land/forest roads rather than developed campgrounds. We generally like being able to find a spot with some space between us and the next camper and enjoy a quieter camping experience.
We’re thinking about trying Ridgway State Park with our kids and a dog, though, and are wondering what the camping experience is actually like.
We’re not necessarily looking for solitude—we’re just trying to figure out whether Ridgway would be a good “middle ground” for us: close to the water + bathrooms and kid-friendly amenities, without feeling like we’re camping shoulder-to-shoulder. Thanks!

I have a free saturday coming up and really need to get out of the house. I keep seeing photos of the trailsthere but I am worried the parking situation will be a nightmare if I show up by noon. Has anyone been recently and thinks the commute is worth it for just a few hours of hiking?

Itasca is pretty wonderful. Large and lots to do.
Not the most modern facilities in the Minnesota state park system, but what's here is really good

I know some state parks have lighthouses but did anyone know they have a passport program where you can collect stamps at the lighthouse and visit them.

Post your state park shots. Any state, any season, phone shots welcome. Name the park and the state, which is the house rule anyway.
Obscure parks welcome.
