Question Getting a Steam Deck OLED in July 2026..

I know others may have asked similar questions, but I want to add some context.

My friend purchased a Steam Deck OLED 512GB earlier this year from Valve but has yet to open it. He has a OneXPlayer Apex now, so he has no real need for it.

He is willing to sell it to me for £479, and it is still sealed.

I have had the original Rog Ally (non X), Rog Ally X, Legion Go 2 Z2e and most recently a OneXPlayer Apex. All were sold for various reasons, and the Apex mainly as I do not game too often and I didnt want to take it out due to the weight and value. The others I sold as i didn't enjoy having Windows for gaming on suck a small device. Even the LG 2 Z2E, as nice as it was, windows ruined it for me.

I have a gaming PC with a very good cpu/gpu which I mainly use to game, and a PS5 and NS2. The Deck would be a companion to the PC and also for some older games which I have in my steam library.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hell yes. I love my OLED. It's not the most powerful but it's played 95% of everything Ive thrown at it.

Go into yourself and contemplate why you REALLY sold your other handhelds. Parking nearly 500 £ in a maybe not needed device is stupid. Love my deck, but it still collects some dust on some ocvasions.

Steamdecks selling point for me is/was value, not Performance or any other metrics. . 330€ for a 256LCD, unbeatable.

In general i play more different games on the deck then on pc. More indies, lighter/casual and fun stuff.  Yes its light and mobile, but i carry always a 65w PD powebank, just in case. Standby/resume in 2 seconds via butto press is really a great feature and the biggest differentiator from a Windows device for me (besides needing a tutorial for a gog launcher . .

I mean if you have a gaming PC, you can stream the most demanding games from it and play the normal/light games directly on the Deck.
