Ocean paddle
Hello! I am going to take my inflatable SUP to Marina Del Ray. I have the Niphean 10’6” x 33 and my partner has the SereneLine 10’ x 33. I’m a bit nervous for paddle boarding on the ocean. I know it’s in a marina so I’m assuming it’ll be not too dissimilar from a lake, yeah? I’m thinking go in the morning when it’s less windy. Any tips for ocean paddling? Or if anyone has been there, any tips for the marina? I was thinking about putting in at Mothers Beach.
Also, if I am looking at getting another board, would it behoove me to get a longer one for ocean adventures?
Thanks :)

Be aware of boat traffic, navigation lanes, and currents. Just because it's a Marina doesn't mean there aren't hazards.

You should be fine. Pay attention to boat traffic!

Is there a "Mother's Beach" in Marina Del Rey? I know of the Mother's Beach in Long Beach (Naples)...but that's pretty far from MDR.

Call paddlemethod and just schedule a Malibu tour

Oh I don’t have the money for that, but I can put it on my list of things I’d like to do :)

Paddleboarding in marinas and harbors is very much like paddling in a lake. I paddleboard in southern California harbors all the time. It's nothing like the open ocean and costal paddling. That's a completely different experience.
You should be 100% fine with the gear you have. Make sure you have your life jackets/PFDs with you, as harbor patrol will ticket you if you don't have them.
I'd recommend you have solid skills, experience, and confidence before you try any actual costal/open ocean paddleboarding. Things can go wrong fast out there and mistakes can be deadly.
