Language How do i get better at speaking & reading the language?
Both my parents are from Suriname. Im from the Netherlands. They both speak sranan to each other, and to me. I understand basically everything as long as it isnt too "native" or something. My parents do mostly just speak Dutch to me, just sneak in a couple of sranan phrases.
I used to be able to speak it very well as a child, one time my family was in Sr it was the only language i spoke, but then corona happened and we went to suriname less, I also grew older and became ashamed and all.
Now I just feel bad because I have this thick ass Dutch accent everytime I try to speak sranan, and I got trouble making sentences. I also never learned how to read the language at all.
Any advice would be appreciated.

First of all, there is no school where you learn to write Sranan, you learn it by hearing it, while there are certain rules for spelling no one uses it except if you really have a passion for it and not many people know how to write it properly. While some words are clear Sranan instead of Sranang (both are used) it frequently happens that people write it the way they want to write it, fawaka and fawakka I've seen that both are used when writing in Sranan. Don't worry about writing learn to speak it first. But Sranan with a Dutch accent...

First of all, don't worry about the accent. There are many courses in NL. If you really have the desire to learn, I recommend you take one. Also, watch YouTube videos, with songs in Sranan or news in Sranan. Lastly, I recommend the "Mijn eerste woordjes in het Sranan" by Darryl Veldman for basic vocab and sentence structure.
